Reading Dark Prince and while I'm enjoying it, it's another one of those books where the vamp gets the girl immediately, no questions asked. They just know they are supposed to be life mates. Then it's another deflowering scene where it's rushed, it's not romantic, etc... I think there is so much potential for writing a love scene with a virgin, male or female, and I hate it when it's rushed. I kind of understand why it was like that in this particular book but I still hate it.
Lori, I have the same view. I don't like rushed scenes and some authors really can't write a virgin convincingly-- although it is admittedly a fine line.Yz, do you think the Jackie Kessler books have to be read in order? Because I do want to read about that incubus, LOL. Did it have an HEA ending?
New_User,I would suggest that the Hell on Earth be read in order. As for the HEA question, I don't really know how to answer it without revealing the story. For me, reading about the incubus, he was worth the story, considering that his character was supposed to be killed off in the first book..LOL..and there is a "sort" of happy ending..although I would call the third book more as "dark paranormal" instead of a "paranormal romance".

I just read Dragonswan in an hour!!! Great quick read, wish it were longer though!I'm about to make a cup of coffee and start Anya Bast's the chosen sin which arrived in the mail today.
I'm also 1/4 way through Guilty pleasures and 20 odd pages into Jean johnson's The Master. I just can't resist i have to read them all at once!
Library Lass - I haven't read a book in over a week if it makes you feel better. I just worked 21 days straight *YUK* So i'm over doing it now. I have reading withdrawls lol
What is it you do for 21 days straight? Seems rather rough esp. if you can't get to read! I get most of my reading done on weekends, but once the work week starts my reading progress slows down heaps. Usually read about 200+ a night if I'm lucky. Understand about those withdrawals, I don't know how you do it!
It was just a one of thing, My boss went away to Hamillton Island for 2 weeks so lucky me picked up extra shifts. I'm a console operator. Im so glad it's over I'm physically exhausted. I had today off go back tomorrow for another 4 days then have monday off.(which happens to be my bday YAY. I generally only do 5 days on a normal week but I always work weekends.Deffinitly not happy with the boss for interuppting reading time hehe!!
200+ a night is good! Thats about the same for me unless it's one of those books you just have to finish!
I have been reading IF ANGELS BURN by Lynn Viehl is well written but the language is hard to follow. There is no glossary and I didn't have my computer handy to look-up the terms. Ah well. I will just pace myself with that one. I started Moons' Web by C T Clamp and Cathy Adams last night. Already I am hoping to finish before FEB., otherwise that goes on hold.
Kenjii,I read the beginning part of that book (If Angels Burn) a long time ago, and wasn't able to get into it, and ended up returning it to the library unfinished. It's back in my TBR file because I heard people giving good reviews on the overall series.
Just finished Once Upon a Marigold by Jean Ferris, a light, fluffy YA book that is almost fairytale like in storyline. Cute and completed my "flower" category.
Also on my last disc on Dance Upon the Air, 1st book on Nora Robert's Three Sister's Island Trilogy. So far, I like Nell and Zack and will definitely finished all three books in audio.
Yz: I have a feeling I will like IF ANGELS BURN by Lynn Viehl. It is not often lately I get the urge to pass on a book, then pick it right back up.I just don't like feeling lost b/c of not understanding certain aspects of the author's creation. I mean, the words and their meanings could be real. I need to look it up. Would have been easier with a glossary. I like the background story.
Dammit a Kindle would come in real handy right about now, lol. Don't care for the jumping from character to character so much. But first books tend to cram it all in sometimes =)
Kenjii, anything we can help with? I know there's some French in there. I was a little surprised myself that there wasn't any translation for those, but I suppose she expects us to pick up the meaning from context-- unless you mean her invented words, LOL. In which case, I think you'll get used to those. She only has a few of them. ;)
new user: I suppose they are invented...hmmm lemme see if I can spot one here...ok she (Alex) is his (Michael's) sygkenis (I say it se-hig-in-es). Which is like mated by a blood bond. I have trouble enough trying to stick with pronouncing weird spelled names, but WTH is this?!And Phillipe his seneschal? I dunno I just do the best I can. I try and remember to look it up later but I get sidetracked. Hmmm...I wonder doing what =
Oh and the French doesn't bother me much is it close enough to Spanish I can figure it out for the most part. Also, as you put it, context.
Started Suzanne Brockmann's The Unsung Hero last night. This is supposed to be the first book in her Troubleshooters series. So far it has grabbed my interest, I had a hard time putting it down to get some sleep.
I'm still reading Dark Prince and the jury is out for me on this one. I don't really like Raven. She is so full of angst and whiny. I have the second book in the series so I'm going to keep going and hope the series gets better. I'm a little tired of the use of the word velvet to describe sexual organs. Once, twice okay...but after that it's like ...I get it already.
Lori,Unfortunately, velvet is a favorite word of Feehan..so you will be hearing that word over and over..LOL..
I've read all the Dark books except for that last one, Dark Curse, and some I like more than the others. I can't read them consecutively without taking a break though, and even when I didn't, for me, the heroes all starts to feel the same.
I prefer her Ghostwalkers series over her Dark series, because of the distinctiveness of the characters.
I am reading IF ANGELS BURN by Lynn Viehl It was a slow start for me (about the first 100 pages). But it could have been my depressed mood (the book is kinda heavy). Now I am excited to finish and get to continue the series. To get to see the journey of the characters. Their development, how their stories continue and what happens next. I like Alex. Her being a Dr is cool (trying not to spoil it lol).
Yep, seneschal is actually a term from the middle ages, kind of like second-in-command. And I think she has two words for soulmate, one of them you mentioned, but she settles on sygenkis later. Dents acérées is fangs, you've probably already guessed, LOL. She doesn't introduce much more than that, fortunately. :)So glad you liked the first book! Alex is a cool character. You see her and Michael throughout the series. But you're right, the first book is kind of heavy when you're not in a good mood. It's not very light, LOL.
I am reading two different books right now. I am reading My Soul To Keep by Tananarive Due and No One Heard Her Scream by Jordan Dane.
Finished Dark Prince and posted my review. I was really disappointed with this book as I had high hopes this would be a series I would enjoy. I haven't given up and have the second book on the list to read next month. Hopefully I'll like some of the other books better.Also finished the anthology Hard Candy and posted my review. This was a fun read.
Currently reading Midnight Thirsts, another anthology about gay vampires. I have two more stories to read in this book and then I think I'll read Sexy Beast. That should get me through to Sunday when I can start on the Feb. challenge books. I'm so excited about some of the books on my list. I can't wait to get started.
I'm doing that same thing. "Hmm... what books can I read to get me to Sunday?"I'm currently reading For A Few Demons More by Kim Harrison, as well as Wicked Deeds on a Winter's Night by Kresley Cole. Those'll get me through tomorrow at least. If I have time I may try to read The Devil's Due by Jenna Black, but we'll have to see.
Lori- I've had my reservations about starting the Carpathians series because even though people seem to love it, I just got that sense that I wouldn't like it as much as I've loved other vampire series. It moves further and further down the TBR list...
I'm halfway done with Brockmann's The Unsung Hero, and I'm enjoying meeting characters that I have read in her later work. Definitely, will continue reading the series.Now listening to Book 2 in Nora Robert's Three Sisters Island trilogy, and so far find the combination of abrasive Deputy Ripley and sexy nerd Professor Mac interesting.
This will probably keep me busy until tomorrow, and then its February for the Challenge.
Yz: Are you going to start a FEB "currently reading" thread? Just curious. I listed all the books I am going to read for FEB. through the status counter on GR. You can switch the view on your home page to reviews, groups, status, updates etc. I want to check an eye on status' to how fast everyone is getting through there books =)I have not gotten DARK LOVER from B and N online yet. Was shipped 1-26-08. I got Pleasure Unbound already.
Yes, we will have a Feb "currently reading" thread. I don't always used the status counter, but I will probably do it for the BOM reads. I'm also thinking of adding my Feb reading challenge books to the group's bookshelf, so all I have to do later is just changed their states from to read, to currently reading and later to "read".
Yz: The book shelf add is a good idea. I will do that do. I don't keep up with the status counter, always, but I like to update it maybe 2-3 times a day when I am reading through a book pretty fast.
