Suggestions for Future Categories/Challenges
Hi Becky - I think there are plenty of readers in this group open to LGBT. Let me know your ideas and we'll sort out how to include in the current line up - most likely, we'll put it into the Dare You challenges but I'd like to know your thoughts first, before I make that call.Just drop me a PM and we'll nut it out :)
Thanks Evaine for the idea! I will post it in the Mod group. It may work better as a shorter challenge, maybe a quarterly. If you would like to host it please don't hesitate to PM one of us and let us know :)
Sure Evaine, one of us would be happy to host it :)Thanks for the idea, we will bounce the idea around and see if we will expand on it for a longer challenge or use it as a Quarterly in the future.
What about a Men in Uniform challenge? I participated in one (non-Goodreads - http://www.thebookvixen.com/2011/10/s... ) this year and loved it. The problem was trying to find where people had posted the books that they read for the challenge. It is done much better here!I'd love to see one done here. Guys in uniform - esp military ones - are some of my favorite stories.
Great idea Susan :) We'll put our heads together to sort something out next year... We'll have to make it different to your other challenge unless thebookvixen formally grants us the use of the idea. Rather than checking out your link, we might just work with the idea and go from there.
She's already taking signups for next year, so I guess we'll need to come up with our own twist. I know she included doctors and veterinarians in the allowed types. In my own list I only used military and law enforcement/firefighter/emt. If I can help in any way, let me know.I posted my list here http://www.susans2012books.blogspot.c... with links to each book's review.
I was looking through my books and realized I have a lot of series' that I have one book left to read, but haven't gotten to them yet. Maybe a challenge could help push me along? I know there are already series challenges, but are there any for reading that last book?

Here's the link if this is of interest: http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/1...
I notice Shell is doing a 'Create Your Own' challenge very similar to your needs!
Otherwise someone else may have a suggestion...
Oh. It looks like it's been a few months since the last post. :) Anyway, I'd just like to suggest a challenge (I'm not sure if anyone has already suggested this though since I encountered this somewhere but forgot where. I just thought it would be fun.).It's an interconnected challenge meaning that the person who posted before you would pick the next book you read. So, List 3 books you want to read and the next person who posts chooses one of the books for you to read next and posts 3 books he/she wants to read.
For example:
Person 1:
Person 2:
I choose
for you. Choose for me:
Hi Tiff!That's a great idea :)
I will pass it on to the other Mods. Do you remember where you've seen it before? If it's another group's challenge I will ask permission to use it and give them credit for it.
Thanks for the idea!
Thanks for the link Bre! By any chance, do you remember where in the group you saw it? The name of the challenge?
Not sure if this one has been done since I am relatively new but how about around the world in 8 books? Great authors in Europe, Japan, Norway and other countries. Sometimes the challenges are bit daunting. I wanted to keep this one do-able.

As Dee mentioned, we did a Quarterly Challenge recently using that theme-

I'm sure we could use the Around The World idea a little bit into the future in another challenge.
Just an idea??Climb the Stairs
Minimum 15 Books, One year from start date, Re-Reads are allowed. When covers are listed, you should end up with 'Stairs'.
Read 1 x Chunky Book (More than 400pages)
Read 2 x Novella (Less than 250pages)
Read 3 x New releases (from same year as challenge start date)
Read 4 x Different Genres
Read 5 x Different Authors
Bonus:
add a 6th (or even a 7th or more) level of your own choosing. Maybe read a complete series that has 6 books, or read 7 books which all have the same coloured covers etc it's up to you
May I post my challenge in the 'Dare to Read' Folder? After looking at that, it seems to be the place others share their challenges :)

I like your idea.

I will send you a private message and we can discuss the challenge. It's great! I need to run it by the other Mods and find a time frame for it. It may work really well as a Quarterly Challenge. Please don't post it until I get back to you - thanks!
Hi all,I have come up with Yahtzee reading challenge idea in my other group but it wasn't well received as the members aren't so keen on huge reading challenges so I am thinking of proposing it here.
The general idea is to complete a game of Yahtzee using books. For upper category 1 to 6, you can only use books with word count one to six in the title and no duplicate books are allowed here. For lower category, you can use word counts/series #s/author/genre and books used in upper category can be used once in lower category. Of course if you are up to the challenge, you can use different books to fill up the whole scorecard. A sample of the Yahtzee scorecard is this in case there are some who doesn't play this game.

So there will be a scoring system just like the game but using word count of the tile of the book used.
Hey, I have been looking into what I wanted to do for a yearly challenge in one of my other groups and thought maybe others would be interested in doing a tarot card challenge. There are 78 tarot cards, either the plot or one of the main characters would have the attributes of the card.
Ora - sounds interesting - could you PM me some ideas / examples and if the idea came from another group - the group so that we can check with mods etc
Anayha ~ the Nite Owl wrote: "Just wondered if anybody liked my challenge suggestion and if it would be used? I was going to do it myself in the Create your own challenge if it wasn't going to be used :) Thank you"Hi Anayha!
Thanks for the reminder! We discussed the idea you sent to Dee, and liked it a lot. We do have a tentative plan for it, but several things came up and it kind of fell through the cracks a bit. We'll bump it back to the front burner and get back to you soon, I promise!
hey guys, as a reminder, if anyone has ideas for challenges - feel free to post here - we are currently looking at annual challenges for next year, as well as our quarterly ones
Quarterly--- Word search. could be like 50 words that are found in the titles of the book. Make them kind of hard. But please check and make sure it post right. I was in a group that did this but when it posted the puzzle was wrong (words missing). It was a lot of fun. Tell them not to post help (spoilers) in the thread. All help has to be off thread. Solve the word search first then start reading.
Yearly --- Read a series that is over 20 books. Or whatever number you come up with.
Just a couple thoughts

Mary - for the word search - so we give you guys a list of words and when done, they form a phrase or something like that?
No, just tells us how many words (50) then we have to find them.
This is the thread from Harlequin Present group I am in. Of course you would have to change things around but the basic idea Delete this post if need be
Instructions:
1. Books must be read between January 1 and July 1 of 2014.
2. Books must be Harlequin Presents titles or if originally Mills and Boon, they must be slated for the Harlequin Presents line when released in the United States. Foreign editions count so long as they meet the above guidelines.
3. One book counts for one part of the challenge—no book can be used more than once. Multiple books by the same author are allowed.
4. Books used for this challenge are eligible for overlap in any other group challenges.
5. Members should sign up for the challenge on this thread and post their initial and final stats when they are finished. You can change your level at any time.
6. Any questions??
Levels:
Level I— No Word Search Can Conquer: 30 or more books (any above thirty must be words you come up with and list in your stats).
Level II— I’m Pretty Good at This Title Game: 29-15 books
Level III— I’m in This for a Lark: 14-7 books
How this challenge will work:
1. Part of the challenge is to solve the word search puzzle, at least for as many books as you plan to read. If you solve for more, you only get official challenge credit for the number of books you read, other than a pat on the back for being a word search guru. I will give you a clue, there are thirty words somewhat commonly used in Harlequin Presents titles. So at a maximum, you can solve for these words and use these in your challenge.

Mary, Is the word search a pre-made puzzle that is posted with the challenge? And as you find the words, you choose a book title with that word in the title?
you would use a program http://wordwordsearch.com/. Then you would post that and everyone can print it out and start looking for the words.
Example of words:
baby
magnate
pregnant
mistress
Then poster's chose of books. This is NOT a theme. The word has to be in the title.

me likey. but we would have to request permission from the original group to borrow their challenge and edit as needed.
I have jut one suggestion.*If in some challenge you need new holidays and/or translate some words. I am from Lithuania.
Fran wrote: "Thanks for the link Bre! By any chance, do you remember where in the group you saw it? The name of the challenge?"these groups also do a challenge like tiff is mentioning:

Lindy-Lane wrote: "hoping we are doing the a-z friends challenge in 2015."Hi Lindy-Lane!
We are going to suspend the A-Z Friends Challenge for 2015. We have a few new Yearlies so we thought we would give one or two older ones a year off.
You can still do it though! Just post the challenge in the Create Your Own Reading Challenge thread and complete it there for yourself :)
We will probably bring it back for 2016 :)
Hi, I just have crazy idea for future challenge. You have Yahtzee challenge and this is a game so why would you don't have similar chalenge who is also a game.
Like DOMINO.
And in domino you have to put together two the same dominos together you have in hand or you have to draw dominos.
So in this "challenge", i don't know, maybe someone will pick the first book for example
and people can read this book or from this series or author or "Readers Also Enjoyed". And later like dominos you have to read similar series, author or "Readers Also Enjoyed".
