message 601: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Willshire (lillyobrian) | 64 comments I think a Day of The Dead Theme would be cool for October. We could do zombies, vampires, murder, etc. Or since it is a Hispanic Holiday we could do staring a Spanish person or takes place in a Spanish speaking country or state. We could do something with candy or sweets in the tittle of the books. There would be a lot to work with and quite a few creative ways it could go. I think it could be so much fun!!! What do you all think?

message 602: by Kim (new)

Kim (catmommie) definitely, we could have a field day with October! harvesting, farming, and Octoberfest too.

message 603: by Lotte_ladybird (new)

Lotte_ladybird Oooh, Lauren - a Day of the Dead theme could be fun!

message 604: by Debbie (new)

Debbie (db_debber) | 2757 comments still doing September?,

Sept. 19, don't forget t' encourage ye mateys t' participate in International Talk Like a Pirate Day.

Jim son of Jim (formerly PhotoJim) (jim_formerly_photojim) | 5294 comments Niel Diamond once did a song called 'September Morn'. It's not a great song by not a great artist. But it deserves to be celebrated as much as the next 70's schlock. So in honor of September Morn, we should read a book relating to a Niel Diamond song. With hits such as 'Forever in Blue Jean', 'Coming to America', and of course 'Sweet Caroline' we could come up with related books for ages!

message 606: by Kim (new)

Kim (catmommie) that sounds good, PJ

Jim son of Jim (formerly PhotoJim) (jim_formerly_photojim) | 5294 comments Hangs head in hands and laments the lack of a sarcasm font. I'm only hoping you are laughing that I thought you might possibly be serious Kim.

message 608: by Kim (last edited Aug 19, 2010 07:51PM) (new)

Kim (catmommie) LOL...I knew you couldn't be serious about ND. However, it's a good idea if you use another musician/group, like Skynyrd, the Doors, etc. for that Box Set Challenge.

Suzanne (Under the Covers Book blog) I am not sure if this has been suggested before, but how about a Rainbow Challange? So that each book cover has to be each colour of the rainbow.

message 615: by Danielle (new)

Danielle (Smiley1881) I like the rainbow idea Suzanne.

Suzanne (Under the Covers Book blog) Thanks, I was at work diligently tapping away *cough yeahrright cough* and it struck me as I was glancing *cough daydreaming cough* out the window and saw a rainbow! : )

message 647: by SandyC (last edited Sep 03, 2010 08:17AM) (new)

SandyC (sandyc88) | 1287 comments Well...
Sign of the Zodiac is Libra, symbol is scales, so read a book about a lawyer or judge, a legal thriller, etc.

Halloween - Read a horror novel, or a book about witches, vampires or ghosts (easy enough for this group!)

October 5 is Teacher Day - Read a book set in a school or college or where one of the main characters is a teacher or professor.

October 18th is Alaska Day - read a book set in Alaska, or a book by an author from Alaska.

Columbus Day - Read a book set in Spain or about someone from Spain; read a book set on a ship or about an expedition.
