     There were I think three kids with powers...at least one of them may have had the ability to breathe underwater. I think the paperback cover had a black background with a boy on it, possibly with pointed ears. I read this as a kid, sometime before 1986. It's not much to go on at all. Sorry.

   It was a young adult novel of about average length. It seems like one of the kids could find things and see the future, too. One of them had a golden collar or necklace or something and it created a problem for them.

     Could it be Child of the Air? I don't remember the plot very well, but the kids found golden necklaces that made them fly.

     I've read the description for Power of Three and that might be it! I've ordered a copy and will be sure, but you may have solved a mystery that's been driving me crazy for over 20 years! HOORAY!
