R5: Team #16 ~ Screeching Obscene Sixteen

Because it was really that unmemorable.

It was a good end to the series. A bit anti-climatic, possibly because I read so much speculation about how it was going to end and most people seemed to get it right. So I figure out how it was all gonna go and sure enough, it did. But still, I like this series a lot. I was saddened by (view spoiler) . Honestly, I was liking the secondary characters more in this book. I want to see more about the vamps and Carter, and even Jerome. I think they'd be interesting to follow around and learn their stories.["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>

Truth be told, these books are cheesy (and getting cheesier), but I love them! This book wasn't any different, although it dragged a bit with the vampire politics and (IMO) the fairies are a bit boring. There was a completely random scene with Alcide that didn't seem to serve any purpose except to remind us that he exists. Every book I read makes me more sure that Sookie is going to end up with Sam (or if she doesn't, she should). Of course that doesn't mean I don't think Eric is the hottest thing since, well, since this record breaking summer in Arkansas. I have the next book in the series, and I'm resisting the urge to grab it right NOW and read it in one sitting.

Finished Ghost
8/1/12 ★★

This book was almost as good as it was bad. The overwhelming bad part was Jazz herself. She is a 700 year old witch who has the mentality of a whiny 20 something who still hasn’t found her way in the world. The first part of the book, the getting to know Jazz part, really dragged for me. I put the book down several times because I couldn’t take any more. At about 70% the book picked up for me. Then the ending battle was way too easily won. There were a few pretty funny moments. I liked the monster bunny slippers, the crystal dildo and ,”because I say so, darn it,” instead of the common so mote it be. And once again clinical medical terms should not be in a sex scene.

I completely missed the crystal dildo! Guess I wasn't paying much attention. It was tough to read even though it does just scream potential (the centuries old characters really do need to show their age).

This book started off with a good opener, then it slowed and droned on for a bit then about half way it started to pick up again for me. This is the first in a spin of from the Lords of the Underworld. Zacharel has always been a cold emotionless kind of guy, his opening up process was kind of shaky. He went from one extreme to another, made him harder to like. Annabelle was a fun spunky girl. They made a good match. The lords did have a cameo which made me happy. There was a lot of new world building and new character meeting, I think that is where the story slowed for me. I think now that is established, the next story could be even better.

You now have an updated BINGO card with a stamp on 'urban-fantasy', 'ghosts' and 'demons'.

Good Job!! :D

'Series Catch-up' (personal shelf)
NOTE:
❀ Members are allowed to choose a book from any series that they have already started - no genre restrictions
❀ Book must be 200+ pages, part of a series, but not the first in a series
❀ Re-reads are not allowed - must be a book in a series you need to catch-up

Good for teams 4 and 13 to get 4 in a line. Bumpkus (3 in a line at most) for everyone else.
Still thinking about what series to catchup. The next two I was going to do, well one fits male lead and one fits psychic. The no first in series rule a kicker—if I really liked book one would likely have finished all the published ones.

ETA: Well I started one of the 2 and realized it is book 4 I needed book 3. So I guess it is

Provided you've read #1, that is fine Deborah.

I thought about the latest Sookie Stackhouse book, but I'll hold on to that one for now.
I've read that Meg Cabot series Deborah and had much the same opinion as you (some good, some meh, but good enough to read the next).

The Demon You Know★★★★★
Wow, I really enjoyed this book. The heroine had a great sense of humor and her snappy comebacks and random pop culture references kept me laughing. And it had a great ending where the demon and the sweet catholic girl live happy ever after.

Review:
This book was a lot of fun. I would not like to be in Alex's shoes right now. The ghost lore was nice to have but I was surprised that the heroine knew so little about them. Mrs B was hilarious, the politics of the fae a delight while I hoped for more. I am so rooting for team Death but the ending (well the last line) made me cry out in outrage.

Edit: i finished. Reviewing soon.

Series Catchup
Size 14 Is Not Fat Either by Meg Cabot
Finished: August 7, 2012
Rating: ★★★★✩ well 3½ stars.
Number of pages: 344
Review: As shelf states, this is of course a series and author I have read before. This is the second in the "Heather Wells Mystery" series and crosses the cozy mystery and chick lit genres.
I enjoyed the book and the writing and had some laugh out loud moments. Author writes very interesting characters and after reading the first book (hit and miss moments), I very much wanted to know what happened next with them. I'm actually not a fan of most mystery stories and that runs true to this book too -- I really could care less about the mystery, clues, or resolution.
The story was a fast paced one, very well done, and made a quick read. Took care of some bits in first book that disturbed me (spoiler only if you have not read the first book (view spoiler) ) and cost it a star.
While I was not reading for the mystery, this one was a much more plausible one through the murder, the clues and motives, and the resolution than first in series.
The romance sucked. Badly. She got her rebound guy--she was alternately glad to have and bored with. The sudden death ending made some changes redeeming; but, kinda too little, too late after the dreck reader had to put up with (what was with author's fascination with a guy's forearms?). Cost a half star on my rating so that if goodreads allowed half stars, would rate 3½.["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>

4.5 stars
I never thought that Andrea Nash could star in her own book. In fact, I never really thought about her at all when I read the earlier books. I was pleasantly surprised by Andrea in this book. She is one badass bouda gal.
Andrea must deal with all sorts of things in this book - from teenage boudas running on hormones to scary snake people and a god that wants her body. She also has to work things out with Raphael.
The mating games were hilarious. Raphael's effort at getting Andrea back in his life was amusing. Andrea played the game way better. I'll never look at shag carpeting the same way again.
I also liked the inclusion of different types of monsters from all sorts of mythologies and cultures. Fascinating.
I hope that the author hurries up and writes the next book in the series soon. Can we have a book about Roman?

I know I should have waited to read but waited more than a year for the pre-order after reading a short story teaser. Seriously good story with fast, tense pacing but also some really hilarious moments (author is one to twistup quite a few tropes).
For urban fantasy, a very tame smut level but teases that next in series could get smuttier.

I've got everything to here. I'm gonna finish up River Marked tonight and get it reviewed before the shelf announcement this weekend.

Not that I really want this to end.

I am debating what to read (looking for something with a little more worldbuilding than characters that got wings stuck on them so can call 'em angels. Does not have to be angels exactly as defined by assorted holy scriptures. So very much want to avoid the can't-help-cause-just-fated storylines.)

Alpha & Omega by Patricia Briggs 3 stars
This is the begining of the story of Anna & Charles. I read the second part of thier story first and was upset that this wasn't included. however now having read it the majority of it was summed up in Cry Wolf, and I was left feeling unsatisfied by this. It really should have been included in Cry Wolf, not a stand alone.
Inhuman by Eileen Wilks 1 star
Did not enjoy any part of this story. It took too long to get to the point and the climax kind of fizzled out.
Buying Trouble by Karen Chance 2 stars
This was a messed up tale where the rules kept changing as the story progressed. First off Claire doesn't like Faries because they make her want to have sex, she meets a fairy guy who she wants nothing to do with. She ends up in Fae lands with him and battles lots of faries, and no mention of this incurable lust that was mentioned earlier. The two escape and as soon as they are alone she gets all lusty again. In the midst of doing the deed she turns into a dragon and burns down the building and a horse. Then her real dad a dragon shows up to save the day. What the french toast! This is like one of those pass around stories where everyone takes turns making up the next line. It wasn't bad it just didn't make a lot of sence to me.
Mona Lisa Betwining by Sunny 3 stars
The problem with most shorts is trying to cram to much world building in to it which then doesn't leave much room for plot. The only plot was the dead lovers sister forcing her into the arms of a man she didn't want to begin with. Not a great plot, mostly just smut.
