Private Demon (Darkyn, #2) by Lynn Viehl

HA! this was a book I picked up today planning to read it this week! Low and behold it was on page 33 of the demon list. I also saw that books moved around while I was searching. They showed up 2 or 3 times on the list!

That sounds like something I was doing about this time last year. I kept losing my books. Found one next to the cooktop/stove in the kitchen. I NEVER have books in the kitchen. Don't know what I was thinking. At least it wasn't in the freezer. LOL! Hope you find it!

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 1586 comments Well, I'm reading Succubus Blues (Georgina Kincaid, #1) by Richelle Mead for my demon since I couldn't download the one I wanted from the library Fire Me Up by Katie MacAlister because they put a hold on my account for reporting a scratched CD. I DIDN'T scratch it! I got the hold released, but not - it seems - on the OneClickDigital access, only on the Over Drive Audio access. **sigh**

Anyway, with Succubus Blues I'm having a love/hate affair.

Jeann (Happy Indulgence) (happyindulgence) | 1151 comments Agggh I LOVE the Georgina Kincaid series. It brought me into reading Paranormal/Urban Fantasy. It's a good one - stick with it.

Jeann (Happy Indulgence) (happyindulgence) | 1151 comments Heat Stroke (Weather Warden, #2) by Rachel Caine

Shelf: Demons

Finished: 25/7/12

Rating: ★★★★

Review:

WOW what an exhilarating ride! Heat Stroke was a way slicker book than the first one, fast-paced and easier to get into than simply a road trip and reminiscing about the times which was pretty much sums up Ill Wind.

I absolutely love the cool factor of both Joanne and her powers, either as a Djinn or Weather warden. This book contains descriptions of meteorology that border on being too scientific, but wow they just blow my mind! Not to mention the descriptions of how Djinn draw their power. The author holds great imagination and skilfully conveys something which seems to be difficult to understand into such a readable, easily digested format.

A thing I am loving so far about this series: it's so incredibly addictive, with a writing style so natural that it flows easily. That's probably a flow on from Rachel Caine's YA writing.

I absolutely adore the male leads in Joanne's life, David, the sexy Djinn and Lewis, the world's most powerful weather warden. Joanne's wit, charisma and sheer determination just matches both of these men well, and she can definitely keep up with them.

Later on in the book, you do meet some twisted and disturbing characters, but it does lead to an epic finale in the end. I was totally hooked into this book from the start and it was difficult to put down.

If I didn't have so many other books lined up to read for the next month, I'd be reading Chill Factor in an instant.

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 1586 comments I have to keep telling myself that about my house, Jeann. The construction was so noisy yesterday that I couldn't even listen to my iPod/Touch. That was the worst it has been. People would call, I'd answer the phone, and they'd hang up. **shrugs**

Yeah, there are things I really like about Georgina and I just LOVE Seth. However, I'm not liking that Georgina is sleeping with others when she is attracted to Seth. But really, what do I expect of a succubus?

Shelf ~ Demons

Finished ~ 7/27/12

Rating ~ ★★★★

Well I haven't been to keen on this series, but I feel obligated to read it since I have the whole thing.

Surprisingly, this book wasn't bad. It was much les confusing than the last one, because the jumps from one inner story to the next was much less random & had more of a.... I can't think of the right term... But it's like when the music changes in a movie, you expect a shift in the story line... That said, I give this book a 4 star rating.

These books are thin with teeny font. The stories are way more complex than the simple covers & synopsis' really describe. There are vampires, humans & templars that each have their own story interwoven, but come together nicely at the end (although it isn't all happy or completely solved)This book was smoother.

This is Theirry's story. He was betrayed by his wife who had him and their son tortured. He has left New Orleans & has set out to get info on Luisa, a burn victim from the last book. He believes she was tortured for vamp info.

He meets Jema, who owns a museum, via dead dad. Her bitch of a mother is still alive & she lives with her still. Theirry enters her dreams & they learn all kinds of info from each other that way. All characters from the last book are in this one as the story progresses.

Personally, growing up Catholic in Catholic schools, I am burnt out with Templar & church underground stories. I just get bored, so I was bored with 1/4 of this book.

OH!! I almost forgot! NOT 1 demon was in this book. It's a vamp story & he was chasing his own demons mentally.

★★★½☆ (This is a review of the audio book.) Elisabeth Rodgers narrates the six novels in the Georgina Kincaid series, and she certainly does a nice job of it in the first one. While she didn’t differentiate the voices dramatically, the way she read it made it so I had no trouble telling who was speaking when the many characters were in an extended dialogue. This, I’m sure, is partly due to the writing craft of the author.

I’ve had such strong feelings about this one, it makes it hard to rate. It is no coincidence that Georgina is fickle and, alas, so am I. (Something I didn’t particularly want to look at about myself, especially while trying to decide on kitchen counter top material.) Just who does she love? Seth or Roman? Interestingly, (view spoiler). Although, I’m pretty sure it isn’t Warren, her bookstore boss, whom she has been boinking for a while, thereby slowing sucking the life out of him; she’s a succubus, after all.

This aspect of her nature is part of my issues with Georgina. As much as there is something about her I really like – and I feel for her because she doesn’t want to be a succubus but a human – I didn’t like that she had feelings for one man and indulges her sexual appetites with others. I don’t mean just her ‘prey’ in this instance, but those whom she is interested in romantically – to varying degrees. Her amorous feelings were capricious, to say the least. She sure had succubus tendencies before she actually became one, no matter how noble her reasons for giving up her soul in her distant past. Nevertheless, I'm betting this aspect gets explored more as the series continues.

There were lots of males – angels, demons, imps, nephilims, and humans – in the storyline for me to drool over; more so than females, and they all think Georgina is beautiful – yet remain just ‘friends’ with her. They range from someone who can save her from a bad predicament, to someone she can turn to for a shoulder to cry on when relationships go south, to someone from whom she can ask a pretty big favor. However, the females that do pop up are pretty dominant or opinionated.

It was clear early on, when writer Seth discussed the likelihood of Georgina’s favorite book characters – Cady and O’Neill – ever getting together, that this storyline is going to be a long running “Peyton Place” before a happily ever after – if we ever get one! There is so much more than the standard ‘love triangle’ going on.

Still, there is the whole question of who killed a vampire named Duane, (view spoiler), both of which makes a good mystery through-out. Also, the plotting was good; it and the characters held my attention, and I liked the author’s “voice.”

Jeann (Happy Indulgence) (happyindulgence) | 1151 comments Great review Lisa, the Georgina Kincaid series definitely is complex and not your typical love triangle. The thing I just love about the series is how it pokes fun at it's own demonic structure, you'll find out more about that as you read on.

It's pretty much Georgina's nature that she has to suck the life out of other people, and the reason why she doesn't want to with Seth is because she's sucking his life force :) this is explored further on anyways.

My urban fantasy book will be A Discovery of Witches (All Souls Trilogy, #1) by Deborah Harkness
