Hi, Team! :D Where's everyone from?
I'm in Japan (Okinawa, specifically). We're about 14 hrs ahead of US EST.
Anyone wanna volunteer to be our fearless captain?
Here are some team names I thought of (be nice, I kinda suck at this part):
Number Eight:
Crazy Eights (or Ocho Locos - spanish)
Eight Ballers (or Magic 8)
Eight Maids a Readin' (take on "12 days of Christmas")
Eight Days a Week (Beatles song)
Eight is Enough
Gr8 Reads
H8W8NG (hate waiting)
Bookish:
Happy Bookers
Reading Between the Wines
Spine Crackers (although, IRL I'm against that! LOL)
Passion for the Paranormal
Mystic Chicks
Hi! I am Meghan from Colorado. About an hour south of Denver! *Waves hi to Sherri* good to see some familiar teammates :)I probably would not be best pick for el capitan as I will be moving at the end of this month and although I will check in with my phone I think I will go crazy trying to put together some good posts for shelves and the such.
I was on team 8 with Sherri last round so I think something different than crazy eights for a team name
As for a team name:
Stardreamers (haha just because I love stars :) )
Paranormal D8s (or D8 with a Paranormal)
Gr8 Green Goblins
Paranormal M8ing
Vampire B-eight
L-eight Night Paranormal Love Ladies
Just throwing out a few... I actually kind of liked the h8w8ing and it got me most of mine.
Hi Meghan! I'd forgotten that y'all were teamed up last round and had that name. I have such a terrible memory sometimes. I really like: Paranormal M8s and Vampire B8. :) Good ones!
My hubby wants to retire in Colorado. He loves cold weather and I prefer warm. But we both love the mountains and the outdoors. How do you like it there? Where are you moving to?
Hi, Sara! Welcome to BSB! Which group has the similar challenge? Is it Southpaw's Challenge group or the M|M Romance group? You'll have to let me know how they compare when we're done. I thought of another name - 'Serial Slayers', since we're all serial addicts.
While I'm thinking about it, if the majority agrees on a team name while I'm snoozing don't wait for me. I'm cool w/whatever the group decides.
Sara, if you're interested but unsure about captain, if no one else is interested, would you mind if I give ya pointers and ya give it a go? I'd rather not do it myself, but that only leaves Emily and I can't remember if she's played before or not. We can wait and see when she cks in. Just a thought - no pressure. :)
That is fine Steph! I actually really liked Vampire B8 after I wrote it down. :) One good thing about Colorado is we have the extremes. Winters are icicle pops and summers are boiling kettles. The beginning of next week will be right around 100F. Some winter nights can get down to -20F. It is really nice though when it isn't at the extremes :)
All right a couple other team names :)Leaving It to F8
Anticip8ing Gr8 Reads
W8 for the B8
Haha for some reason still liking the 8 in the name :)
Finally made it home to see the teams posted. Yea!!Glad to see old teammates again - Waving to Meghan!!! and to new ones! Royal wave to Steph and Sara. :-)
Sara, I am a fellow Michigander. I live in Ypsilanti, near Ann Arbor.
I couldn't believe it when I tracked down my team number that I was on Team 8 again. LOL! Perhaps I should go play the lottery. Looking through the names I like Serial Slayers (since I would like to slay some of my books during the game) and Vampire B8. Although there have been alot of great choices presented. Absolutely no to Spine Crackers though. ;-)
I was captain the last round and can do it if no one else can, but if Sara is Sara is interested I can help her with the first couple of rounds. I still have my cheat sheets for doing links and formating. Once you've done a round or two it is pretty straight forward.
I nominate Meghan for team cheerleader! She had that role last time and was excellent at it.
All right just a couple more: Serie-ous Book Slayer
Paranormally Serie-ous
Haha I had named my series tracking private group with something of that nature....
Hey Guys! Lovin' all the name options. I'm open to anything, as I said, but my favorites so far are (in no particular order): Vampire B8, Serial Slayers (or Serial Killers), Paranormal M8s. I second Meghan for team cheerleader and Sara (In Training) for captain. ;)
Looks like we're still pending a 'Hi, How Are Ya' from Emily. Glad everyone's ready to get started. I'm psyched as well.

But, if it's more a rare thing that a common wintery occurrence maybe I could do it. I would really rather be hot than cold.
Not that common maybe once for max of 3 days a year at night so curl up under lots of cover and the hundreds happen a lot in the summer. It was cooler yesterday and today but it is supposed to shoot right back up.
I am very excited to start bingo. I am from New York. I am good with any team name. My internet went down last night so I am going to make this response short since I am at work. They should be fixing it today.
That's perfect, Sara! WELCOME, Emily! Good morning, Serial Slayers! :D
Our first shelf announcement has been posted!
Mr. R landed right in the middle on young-adult-paranormal.
I haven't been feelin' any YA books lately, but I'll poke around my lists and post my choice soon. Hope everyone has a great weekend!
ETA: Sara, to make things easy for us mods to verify, could you please include the book each team member reads, the date we finish, our 1-5★ rating and a link to our review post? If you need help creating direct links to posts, lemme know and I can show ya how. Thanks, my dear! :D
Yay! Good job! :DI'll post how to add links now, in case I'm not around when you wanna give it a go.
Paste this into the comment box (WITHOUT the *):
<*a href="http://www.goodreads.com">my link text<*/a>
Whenever someone makes a post, the highlighted bit above the comment shows the message #, member's name and time/date they posted, like this:

If you right click on the time/date info (20 minutes ago), you'll see an option to "copy link location". Copy the link location and paste that info between the " marks in the html you copied (the web address part of it, which I underlined in the example). Then, change "my link text" to say whatever you'd like.
So, for example, you would see this, if you were sharing your last post.
Sara's post
OR, you could just right-click on the time/date and paste the link by the person's book choice like this ...

:D Make sense? Probably not at first, but give it a go and see what happens, you can test post here to practice it. All the HTML stuff gets easier as you play around with it.
I'm going to read
for 'young-adult-paranormal'. Not sure what I'll read for my 'free space' book yet. I'll let ya know once I decide.Hope everyone has a great weekend!
Yea Sara! You are doing awesome. I think I know what I am going to read, but I need to check that it is on the shelf.
Hope you like Shatter Me, I did even though the author's I still haven't started Estep's YA series. How are you liking it Sherri?
I'm flyin' through Darkness Before Dawn. I like the world she's building even if the H/h are nothing extraordinary (least not so far).
Just an FYI: We are expecting a typhoon to hit sometime tonight or tomorrow morning. Not sure if we'll lose power, but wanted to let ya know in case I'm MIA all of a sudden. I'll have my iPhone/iPad, but only until battery dies. Hopefully we won't lose power, most times we do not. But, ya never know.
Thanks! We'll be fine (building is solid), just hope we don't lose power. Power outages when it's hot & humid super suck.
Stay safe Steph! Great time to read by flashlight. Best with all the noise and things going bump in the night (or day).I am about 50 pages into Glimmerglass. I would probably be even further if my Nook wasn't ready to die while I was at work last night. I don't usually get to read while at work, but I was working on a project that required a lot of laminating. Which is an extremely slow time consuming process with no brain thought. Which of course make great reading time.
I just finished
for our free space(6/17). I have really loved this series and cant wait to read the next. Hopefully it will fit our next shelf. I give this one 4 stars. I did enjoy the characters and their story, but felt it was a bit lacking compared to the others. Now to start
.
Sarajayne, you can write a couple of sentences or a couple of paragraphs. And this is what got me writing reviews too.Reviews need to include the date you completed them, the star rating, and a review of the book. The review needs to have noted what you liked and didn't like about the book and whether or not you will continue with the series if it is part of one.
Hope that helps.
Hi, Slayers! :DI've finished my YA-PN book,
. I'll pop back soon w/my R&R (rating and review). Hope everyone's enjoying their book! WTG, Emily on your FS read. Hope you enjoy Matched. I thought it was a decent read.
I've just started listening to
and will most likely use it for my FS (found @ SOS bookshelf) read.
Darkness Before Dawn by J. A. London
Read: 18 June
My rating: 3.5 of 5 stars
Shelf: young-adult-paranormal
Darkness Before Dawn introduces us to Dawn. Nine years after the end of a thirty-year war between humans and vampires, the death of Dawn's parents leads to her becoming the youngest Agency delegate. As a delegate she is responsible for meeting with "one of the most powerful vampires in the world: Lord Valentine" to discuss, well, blood.
As a part of the VampHu Treaty that ended the war, humans in the cities supply blood to the vampires on the outside. In return the vampires don't attack the cities. Donating blood is voluntary; no one is forced to do it.
However, now that some time has passed, people are donating less and less. They are starting to rebel a bit against having to remain behind the twenty-foot high wall that surrounds their city. Moreover, the city is not vampire-free as it should be.
Some of the bits that I enjoyed most were:
- The Night Watchmen, who are trained to fight against vampires and protect the citizens within
- The classes taught in school were vamp-oriented: fighting, psychology, history, etc.
- The Night Train, which is the "only train that run across the country; it move practically non-stop, twenty-four hours a day. Literally, one train, one track. It was written into VampHu as the only alternative for long-distance travel, now that airplanes are outlawed."
- I thought it was interesting that "each city is an island. Vampires didn't want humans to compare notes. All news is local news. All radio and television shows are made within the city, for the citizens."
The book ends on a cliff-hanger, which has sparked a desire to read book two, Blood-Kissed Sky, immediately. Alas, we'll have to wait until Christmas 2012. There is a short snippet from BLOOD KISSED SKY at the end, which makes readers that much more curious about how things will change in Dawn's world.
My full review can be read here.
I just finished reading
6/18/12. I wasnt sure if I was going to enjoy reading this book or not. I purchased this book when it came out and it has been sitting with my other books since. This is a story about a society that makes choices for everyone ranging from their spouse and jobs. I enjoyed the twist in the story near the end that changed the relationships of Cassia, Xander, and Ky. It was really hard not to cheer for Ky. The ending left me wishing that I had the next book to see what happens to Cassia. I would rate this a 3.5 stars. The story was an easy quick read.
Yea Team! Just letting everyone know I will be bringing up the rear this week. I haven't started my books yet, I have a couple others that I have to read before I can even start them. :-(
I am a close to finishing Glimmerglass so I will probably post that possibly tomorrow or the next day. Then I will get into Vampire Academy which I sort of started while my boyfriends was watching the baseball games at the restaurant last night and I pulled it up on my phone.
That's exactly how I felt, Sara. I can esp relate to your brain hurting. Those strikeouts were insane.
I wonder that too. I kinda hope it's not. It really drove
I just finished Glimmerglass this morning before I went to sleep. So as soon as I can fully wake up I will post my review.
Sarajayne wrote: "Sandra wrote: "I hadn't heard of this one Sarajayne, looks good :)"I'm in about 100 pages and so far it's ok. The main protagonist is gay, but that's not the main focus of this book-definitely ep..."
I just finished Halfway to the Grave the other day and I have that one as a possibility for a few shelves.
Meghan's Free Space Shelf Review
Glimmerglass by Jenna BlackBook Completed: 6/21/2012
Book Rating: ★★★½
Review:
Dana is a girl that has lived with her human mother her whole life. She knew about her Fae father, but had never met with him or talked to him. She decides to find her dad in Avalon and get away from her mother who was an alcoholic. Upon arriving in Avalon, she comes across many obstacles with her aunt and other Fae all trying to win her over with the possibility that she may be a Faeriewalker. As a Faeriewalker, she can walk into the human world with magic and into the Faerie world with human technology.
I actually loved parts of this book, but not all of it. I was more intrigued with the beginning of the book than the end of the book. I liked that all these people were arguing over trying to get a hold of her and hiding her.
Dana was sweet and sort of lost about everything the whole book. However, this did not take away from the story in my opinion because it made me curious about her and her family and what would happen in the future.
I liked this book enough to give the next book in the series a read.
