Deidre (AlaskaReader) | 267 comments I feel the same way. What if the world ended tomorrow? (Post-apocalyptic being one of my favorites) If you didn't have 1500 books to be read, you'd go nuts! Especially if you read fast. So load up those e-readers and buy everything that comes out.

Seems to be the philosophy of one person I know. :-{

message 352: by AH (new)

AH | 2271 comments Yup, more books added yet again.

Lis | 4037 comments I like to leisurely scan too, it's kind of therapeutic to the "tbr syndrome". You get a little sense of accomplishment if you can take one off your pile. I've tried picking ahead, but I always change my mind, so now I wait. And if there are a lot of abs on the covers, I get a little blind and have to sttrrretchhhh the iPad view and make it a little larger to "read" better.

I do worry if I load up my kindle and I can't charge it post-Apocolyptic, what will I do?

message 354: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 2484 comments Oh I scan the shelves too. But I know that I have books that I want to read soon. Or need to read soon for book clubs, book trades, due dates etc.., Then some shelves, I have no idea off hand what I have so I scroll until I come up with a few. I like to randomly click on page numbers too instead of just going in order after awhile. But I don't have time (or the eyes) to scroll through 100+ pages.

After the apocalypse, you read the Kindle FIRST, and keep the wireless off. It will last for weeks that way, the original kind anyway. If you can't barter for a charge later, that's when you start on the stockpile...

Hey, I watch preppers, I take notes!

message 358: by Valerie (new)

Valerie (versusthesiren) | 245 comments I like to pick out a shelf page and ctrl+f for "edit" (as in "edit my review") to see what books are already in my TBR pile. It's worked out pretty well for me so far and gives me several choices. :D

LOL I imagine the true preppers would be telling us we should be burning our books for the heat they would provide ;-)

message 360: by [deleted user] (new)

OMG no, you can't burn books, i'd rather freeze my ass of ROFL

message 361: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32726 comments LOL! Or, you could do like they did in the movie "Day After Tomorrow" and burn law books.

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 1586 comments LOL!

message 363: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 2484 comments I admit that one of the reasons that I have justified the several hundred books I own is what if there's an extended power outage or WWIII?

message 364: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25912 comments Or what will I read when I retire?

message 365: by D.G. (new)

D.G. | 2752 comments LOL, ladies! Glad to see you have your priorities straight! Although now I'm worried. The charge on my iPad doesn't last that long!

message 366: by Daffodil (new)

Daffodil (daffodil--ripcranberry) | 2098 comments I've always felt that a good solid brick bookstore or library would be the perfect place to hole up during the zombie apocalypse. There are probably even survival guides to help you adjust to the new world order. LOL.

Great idea! My local library is really close so now I know where I'm going when the apocalypse hits!

Great idea! Jam the back of the bookshelves against windows and doors and find a little hidey-hole! It will work out perfectly! I think my library is pretty solid with not a lot of windows. Plus it is right next to the pool in case I need to take a "bath" or cool off from all the steamy men. :)

message 370: by D.G. (new)

D.G. | 2752 comments There's just a Marshal's next to my library.

Here is a novel that would be appropriate. I actually checked this out of the library but didnt finish it. I read the first couple of chapters and it looked interesting just ran out of time.

Allison Hewitt Is Trapped

message 372: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 2484 comments My library is super close. But it's only got a high school and houses around it-one of which is my mother's.

message 373: by ★Meghan★ (new)

★Meghan★ (starinheaven) | 541 comments Hey you could use the chemical showers to clean up Mary :)

message 374: by Lis (new)

Lis | 4037 comments Good for you gals near libraries. I'm in the woods and making my own library. Now I should argue that I need to add a pool for potential bathing.

Deidre (AlaskaReader) | 267 comments Lis wrote: "Good for you gals near libraries. I'm in the woods and making my own library. Now I should argue that I need to add a pool for potential bathing."

No, you need to pool for water. What will you drink while you are reading all the to-read books? You don't wnat to be running around looking for water. That could take up way too much reading time!

message 376: by ★Meghan★ (new)

★Meghan★ (starinheaven) | 541 comments Plus what if the zombies catch you while you are searching for water...mmmm...

message 377: by Lauren (new)

Lauren (laurenjberman) OMG! You people are starting to scare me, lol! Now I'm going to be looking for zombies round every corner.

Steph (angel4492) | 32726 comments LMAO! You guys are too much.

message 379: by Crystal S (new)

Crystal S (crystalann) | 487 comments We've actually discussed the zombie apocalypse in great detail here at work (probably because several of us watch The Walking Dead religiously). One of my co-workers has a lot of guns, so he's agreed to let several of us camp out with him. I made him promise to kill me if I become zombie-fied. LOL

message 380: by Lis (new)

Lis | 4037 comments Covered, I have a well and two springs for water. Guns don't slow them down much, need a wicked sword. And do not ride around in open vehicles!

message 381: by Kate (new)

Kate (fictionalkate) | 478 comments Swords are pretty cool. and they never run out of bullets at the most crucial part of the episode...

message 382: by Steph Ann (new)

Steph Ann | 1220 comments My library actually happens to be right across the street from the police station, so that could come in handy if zombies attack!

message 383: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 2484 comments I had a dream a couple of weeks ago that my sister was a zombie and I was hunting her down. Yes I was annoyed with her at the time. I don't read zombie books or watch zombie movies and it was just before round 5 was put up for sign ups-so this didn't trigger it.

Steph (angel4492) | 32726 comments LOL! Harsh!

I had a dream that I was making dinner for the family and when they were telling me what they wanted, I kept asking them 'What shelf is it on?' Might have been thinking abut SOS Bingo at the time LOL

Debbie's Spurts (D.A.) | 2179 comments ah, come on, for zombies you need flamethrowers and road flare type of things guys.

message 391: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 2484 comments The dream was very vivid.

My sister is older than me by 8 years but she's the family screw up. She lost her license to a DUI and since I share a duplex with her: it's me that drives her to and from work most days. And almost every day I have to call her repeatedly and bang on her door to wake her up to go to work. And almost everyday she remembers when we're half-way there that she's forgotten to put in her teeth, forgotten her glasses, has the wrong purse etc..,

I'd be afraid I'd accidentally set all those beautiful books on fire! Crossbow & lots and lots of arrows for me.

message 393: by Daffodil (new)

Daffodil (daffodil--ripcranberry) | 2098 comments Me and my weird brain, would fire even kill a zombie quickly enough? How long before fire reaches the brain stem? I have visions of flaming zombies running around creating infernos.

Hmmm, we're all going to have interesting dreams tonight.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! Now that you mentioned it, me too!

Valerie ~ Val Hall ~ | 9662 comments Somehow I keep going back to the scene in Dawn of the Dead (the remake) where they are on the rooftop with white board asking the sharpshooter from across the street to it hit *insert celebrity name here* zombie down in the street.

Zombies will catch other zombies on fire and most versions are dessicated things that flame up quick and have to eat brains and organs to get fluids back...OMG...I have to go ingest more caffeine to fire up the brain cells and grab a nice volume of chick lit to calm the brain cells that are taking this way too seriously!
