@DG, Breann & Mary~thanks checking!

Is that "legal," Lauren? I have some that I have labeled "male-pov" which I could certainly change to "male-lead"... Is it only "legal" for books I've read, or future books in the series I plan to read, or any book I wish to mark that way (that applies, of course).

Steph wrote: Those are among some of our slimmest lists, but Male Lead has 1,000+ and Psychic has 2,000+ choices, so not too bad. But, if anyone's willing/able to add to them, that is allowed.
If I understand that correctly, then you can re-shelve books that you have already read. I don't think its "legal" for books that have not been read yet.

Great name! :)
Sinatra or Clooney? ;-)

You can only read the books listed on the shelves, so if the book you are up to isn't listed, your bad, so sad. That rule has been in since Round 1.
As to switching your shelf name, definitely up to you, but it isn't encouraged, especially after the game starts. Makes no difference whether books are read or to-read, re the legality.

2nd place was 11th Hour."
Ah. Your team mates must not be Clooney fans. ;-)

Each round I pick shelves that have a minimum of 1,000 books shelved in hopes that people will be able to find 1+ they want to read. I also try to mix it up a bit each round and add/remove some shelves. Keep in mind that not every shelf will be called during the game.
No one will be kicked out of the game for shelving books. First of all, I don't look to see which GR members shelved every book. So, I wouldn't know if you were one of them unless you told me. Second, it's up to you how you want to play this game. Do you want to be surprised by the shelf announcement each week and excited about hunting for a book to read - or - do you want to watch out for the shelf announcement and know right away which book you'll be reading for it? Everyone's different.

Thanks muchly!! :-D

I think this game is an excellent chance to pick and read something new and different.

You could, theoretically, make up your own rules for your personal choices. For example, I will only read books that I have on hand. Or read only the books you have downloaded for free. As long as they appear on the shelves, you are OK.

I usually shelve books as I acquire them. When I'm going through the shelves here to see what I have on them, I will then add that shelf to the book under my shelves. So when I look at the book I can see all the shelves it popped up on and decide if I want to save it for another shelf or read it for the one just called. IF that makes any sense.

Deborah, if you have an idea about a book you want to read, you can see how that book has been shelved. If for example, the book was Dark Lover by JR Ward and you wanted to see if it fell into the alpha male shelf, you could click on see top shelves (right hand side) then if the shelf appears in that listing, you can usually find it on the shelf that was called. So for this example Dark Lover is on the alpha male shelf 21 times. If you look at our shelves you can see how many times each book was shelved and usually it is in order from most to least.
Hope that was clear as mud.

There is when looking at the SOS bookshelves:
• Go into SOS bookshelves from the homepage.
• Click on the tag you want, say “young adult” – which has 262.
• Click on the column entitled author or title.
• You can change them from A-Z or Z-A.

LOL, on a keyboard I do. On the touch screen things ... yuck. (except on the iPad, after an embarrassing number of weeks I did figure out that at bottom of website/google/search thing at right of page url if I typed a search and glanced towards the bottom it gave me an "on this page" find/search option)

*hangs head in shame* it took me way too long to figure that one out. And I am so good in the Windows and Unix/Linux operating systems and actually started out on Macs.
It actually annoys me less that I have to page thru so many pages finding books than that so many are duplicated (I guess different editions or formats or something).

Of course, if I want to read a specific book and its not on the first couple ie 10 pages I'll look on the book page & top shelves.
And I always add books when I acquire them, otherwise 2 or 3 copies can appear here and thats not a good thing.
