Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 2484 comments The last time I played, I printed out my team's bingo card and then wrote on each square, 1 or 2 books that I have that I could read for that shelf. Not that I always stuck with that but it was an easy go-to reference.

That's a great idea and sounds exactly like something I would do. Thanks!

Valerie ~ Val Hall ~ | 9662 comments LOL. I remember last round of Bingo. I was overexcited in the preparation stage. I went over the books that I wished/planned to read and did what Mary suggested. Doing a search on the shelves for the books and identified them in my to-read shelf with the bingo numbers. When the shelf was announced each week, say G15 for magic....I would have already a list of around 10 books to choose from. It was time consuming to prepare but every Sunday when the shelves were called, I could jump right in on the reading part.

You do not need to prepare for this to enjoy the game, I'm just OCD that way is all.
You can plan on a piece of paper, have an spreadsheet or just get bullied into reading something from your team.

In any case, you always discover something new to read. I shudder to think about all the books I added to my TBR pile after reading the other team member's reviews.....but it's half the fun of the game....that and pacing between shelf announcements that is.

Oh no...I don't know if my TBR pile can take anymore. lol Actually, I can't wait to add more books to it!

Sarajayne - You can use ANY book that's currently on the shelf called no matter if it actually fits the shelf. So for instance, take a look at the shifters shelf:
http://www.goodreads.com/shelf/show/s...

If the "shifters" shelf is called, you can read any of the books from there, regardless of whether they are YA, adult or even if it doesn't have any shifters. As long as the book is there, it's a go.

The flip side of that is that even if the book fits the shelf but it's not currently there, then you cannot use it.

(This doesn't apply to the shelves with asterisks which are personal.)

Leah | 880 comments Love the Series Catch Up shelf!!! I have so many series I feel like I'm falling behind on, I probably have 30 books that fit this shelf ;)

I did this same thing the last round Val. I already did it again for this round too. :)

Lis | 4037 comments Every time I see a new post I get all excited that the teams have been posted... But NOT yet! The hardest part of bingo seems to be coming up with a team name and the first shelf announcement is only another day and half away. Tic tic tic...

Steph (angel4492) | 32726 comments Wow! I have to thank everyone who has taken the time to read and reply to all the questions posted since I last checked in. THANK YOU! I know everyone, new and returning, appreciates the tips, hints, and suggestions. You guys rock! :D

message 211: by D.G. (new)

D.G. | 2752 comments So I turned on my computer to see if the teams were posted. No luck! :(

message 212: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 2484 comments I can't resist doing any prep-work either. I had to make myself stop looking at so many pages of each shelf that I looked up.

If I give myself too many choices for each shelf than I'll have trouble deciding which book to pick when the time comes.

I'm doing a dragon themed challenge and I have yet to read a Psy-Changeling book for that challenge. So I'm going to look up the books I have for both and see what they've been shelved.

Christina (AKA Babbling) (babblingbookreviews) | 1242 comments Mary wrote: "I have yet to read a Psy-Changeling book for that challenge. ..."

:D You're in luck with this one, Mary. The P/C series tends to pop up on a LOT of the lists. On the FIRST shelf page alone for Slave to Sensation has "paranormal romance", "shifters", "urban fantasy", "psychic", "paranormal fantasy", "2011", "favorite series", and "sci-fi romance". Add the Reader's Choice and Series Catch-up shelves, and you could almost read the entire series! :)

Of course, I do realize that not all the books will be on all the same shelves. ;-)

message 214: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32726 comments Players have been shuffled for teams. I'll be posting the team player names now. Once you locate your team, please feel free to start chatting with your teammates. Once you have determined your team name and team captain, please let us know and we'll update your thread.

REMINDER: Throughout the game, every team player must check-in on their team thread a minimum of once a week.

Dust off your book shelves and charge up your eReaders, ladies! The first shelf will be announced Sunday (JST). :D

There are 5 personal shelves in this round, as many of you have already noticed.
(Req'd for all shelves: minimum 200+ pages)

The personal shelves are:
(1) Reader's Choice ~ any book/series/author
(2) New2You: author ~ any book/series by an author you have never read
(3) New2You: series ~ any book/author in a series you have never read
(4) Series Catch-up ~ any book/series/author in a series you have started and need to finish (book # must be 2 or higher)
(5) Favorite Supe ~ any book/series/author featuring one of your favorite supernaturals

All other shelves listed on the bingo cards have a Goodreads' shelf link. A direct link to the shelf will be provided with the shelf announcement. If a personal shelf is called, I will post a note reminding players the book is their choice/no shelf link.

If you have any questions now or throughout the game, please do not hesitate to ask! Hope everyone has a great time and enjoys R5. :D

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 2484 comments Yeah I was pleased to see those psy-changling books popping up all over when I was scanning some shelves. Hopefully the series #'s will work out for me in the shelf calling. I've found that sometimes, some books in a series will be on a shelf but not all books of that series.

Amy at the top right hand side of this page you will see a link that says Bookshelf?

Click on that and you can read any of those for your free space.

It doesn't have to be a book you got for free, people where just discussing the possibility of having "free books" as a future category

I think there were some suggestions that one of the spaces was a "freebie" space where we could use free books, ARCs, loaners, free downloads...but that was as an actual space not the "Free Space". Steph decided not tto go with that idea for this round.

message 230: by Leah (new)

Leah | 880 comments Julianne wrote: "So can we read our free space choice at any time?"

Hi Julianne, you can read it anytime after the challenge starts on Sunday, I believe.
Keep in mind though, the sooner your team has all read their Free Space books, the sooner you get the square stamped!

I know what you mean -- though I'm not playing this round, out of curiosity I wanted to see if my current read, Storm Front, was on the 'male lead' shelf. I came across later Dresden books, but I gave up looking for the first book. I could have overlooked it, too, since I was tired at the time.

If I were playing, it would just have to be my Free Space read. :)....Which is also another opportunity to read the Psy-Changeling seris. ;-)

I wish we could sort the shelf pages alphabetically by author. That way, you could tell (a bit faster) whether ALL the books from that particular author/series were shelved using that specific tag.

message 234: by Amy ~Lover of Books~ (last edited Jun 15, 2012 04:48PM) (new)

Amy ~Lover of Books~ | 400 comments Okay, thanks Julianne and Michelle for verifying! So, I just click on the link that Paris posted in post 232 for the freebie space?

message 235: by ★Meghan★ (new)

Oh...sorry to hear that...GR notifications strikes again (it gets wonky sometimes...)

We'll see what we can do.

message 237: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32726 comments For all those questioning how and when to read for a FREE SPACE stamp, please read the following:

** Please keep in mind that all books chosen during the game must be a minimum of 200 pages and graphic novels are not allowed.

* To get free space credit, each team member must pick a book from one of these three options:

(1) An SOS Book of the Month: Any month while the game is in play (IE: June, July ...)

OR

(2) A book off of any of the group's new release thread folder or the group's new release thread archive folder: Any book listed on one of the new release threads; no matter the date of release

OR

(3) A book off of the group's bookshelf: Any shelf or tag; No date restriction - books added at anytime may be chosen

Q: When can I start reading my FREE SPACE book?
A: Any time after the game has started, which for this round is Sunday, 17 June. Any books started prior to that date cannot be used as your free space read.

Q: Can I use a book I got for free (Nook, Kindle, library, friend, etc) for my FREE SPACE book?
A: Yes, IF that book is found in one of the above three spots, it is over 200 pgs and it is not a graphic novel.

Hope that helps! Let me know if you have any add'l questions. :)
