Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 2484 comments I'm worried if there's a Zombie category. I'm not really into Zombie books. But I like the Felix Castor series and he has a Zombie friend. But if I remember correctly, my library doesn't have the one I'm up to in that series and it may or may not shelved as zombie.

Which may be a moot point if there's no zombie catagory.

No Amy, I think pick another book. LOL

message 153: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 2484 comments OK it looks like they changed how it looks when you click on a shelf name on a book to see what other books are on that shelf. Now it just brings up a page with the newest releases and the ones with the most recent reads.

What happened to it bringing up all the books on that shelf? Or am I missing how to get it to do that?

message 154: by D.G. (new)

D.G. | 2752 comments Yes, I guess they change it so when you click on a shelf from a book page, it's taken you to the 'Genre' page, not the shelf.

So now we can't click there to go to a genre shelf but only click on the links provided by Steph.

Working Stiffby Rachel Caine fits the zombie genre but isn't a gross read - its more of a conspiracy thriller with big bad pharma as the villain. I wouldn't worry - there's usually a book for everyone on those shelves.

Yeah I will be moving at the end of this month/early next month so I won't really be able to get to some of my books. Luckily I will have a lot through my phone, but I would like to plan ahead.

message 159: by [deleted user] (new)

I just like to be organised and know my list of reads are ready to go :0) This is my first ever game of Shelf Bingo, and i'm also excited to be meeting some new Team Mates.

Ohh, I missed the cut. Silly distracted me. Good game everyone!

Steph Ann | 1220 comments Is it wrong that my first thought when my boyfriend asked if I wanted to go see a movie Sunday night was, "But that's the day Bingo starts, and I planned on reading til True Blood started." I did not say that out loud to him though. :)

Steph (angel4492) | 32726 comments Hi, everyone!
Time for a status update:

- Sign-up is officially closed, however if anyone would like to be added to the stand-by list please let me know. I will call on you if a player is unable to continue and/or does not check-in weekly, as required, so you must be willing to jump in if needed. Thanks!

- I am pending a final RSVP from: Jenny, Lili and Juana. I have sent an event invite/PM to all requesting their RSVP. As soon as I hear back from them I will shuffle players for team assignments and create team threads. I'll post an update on this thread letting everyone know team threads are up.

-- As I mentioned earlier, there are several players who have the same name. I will be adding your original sign-up post # next to your name on the team threads, so that you know which team you are on.

Our dup names are:
Amy (Sassy)
Amy (Lover of Books)
Cathy x 2
Dawn
Dawn (Kat N Hat)
Heather x 2
Jennifer x 2 & Jennifer J
Kate x 2 (1 Kate and 1 Kat)
Lisa x 2
StephB & Steph Ann
Valerie
Valerie (Val Hall)

For those who have a call sign next to your name, I will use that instead of your post #. For those that are similar, such as Steph Ann and I, I will simply post StephB and Steph Ann. If you are still uncertain which team you are on, please ask and I'll let ya know.

- I have decided NOT to have a freebie/loaner/library shelf in this round. HOWEVER, please remember that the "personal" shelves are open for players to choose books from their personal stash, borrow from the library, or steal borrow from a friend. REMEMBER: the books must be 200+ pages and no graphic novels are allowed. The mods and I will discuss the possibility of including that shelf in a future round. Thanks for the suggestion, AH!

- Assuming all goes as planned and I am able to get the rest of the prep done in time, we will have our first shelf announcement on Sunday, 17 June. As always, I will not be sharing shelf links prior to their announcement, but you are welcome to scope out the shelf names on the bingo cards once they are posted to the team threads.

Thanks again to everyone for your interest in BSB! We look forward to another fun-filled round!

Steph Ann the shelves are announced Japan time so it will probably be Saturday night your time.

Steph (angel4492) | 32726 comments Yep, most likely. Players can use the time zone converter to figure out what time it will be in their time zone when it is 0800(ish) Japan Standard Time. I try to post the shelf announcement Sunday morning (between 0dark30 and 10a) my time.

If you have any questions let me know. :)

That is true! I'd forgotten about that. I'm still not feeling the need to see The Avengers for the third time in the theater (no matter how much I like watching Robert Downey Jr.), but at least I can get some reading in beforehand if my boyfriend really insists on seeing it again. :)

message 178: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25912 comments ;) Steph Ann, at least you get to go out. LOL

message 179: by D.G. (last edited Jun 14, 2012 06:28AM) (new)

D.G. | 2752 comments Well, I checked the shelves and I think I have books for all of them! I thought psychic was going to give me problems but then I found out that the Psy-Changeling series and Sookie fit the bill and I haven't read the latest books.

Also, I recently got a romance freebie that's on the sci-fi romance shelf so I'm good to go there. :)

The only issue with the dark fantasy shelf is that most of the books I have are really long but I haven't checked everything so I may find something shorter.

message 180: by Steph Ann (new)

Steph Ann | 1220 comments lol, true. His and my movie tastes don't always align, but I will say he is willing to go to movies he has absolutely no interest in (e.g., The Artist, Prometheus), so I feel I should return the favor, which is why I'll most likely be watching Ghost Rider 2 with him this weekend at some point. :)

message 187: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 2484 comments Thanks for putting up the shelves. Now I can see if there's one I'm going to have to acquire something for somewhere.

message 188: by Mary X (last edited Jun 14, 2012 08:00AM) (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 2484 comments Dumb question: what do the starred shelves mean? Are those actual shelves or are they for us to pick a book that fits that category for us? Or are they just starred because they're new to the game shelves?

And yay, no zombies! Most of these are shelves I already have myself.

ETA: I'm confused: Favorite Supe isnt' a shelf. So does that mean to read a book with your favorite supe? And does it have to be a favorite type of supe or a book from a series you've already been reading?.

message 189: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 2883 comments Anything that would qualify as your favorite supernatural. For example, last round my favorite supe book involved a zombie. And it was a new book/series to me.

message 190: by Valerie ~ Val Hall ~ (last edited Jun 14, 2012 08:29AM) (new)

Valerie ~ Val Hall ~ | 9662 comments Mary, in BSB round 4 the starred shelves were up to the reader's choice. So for instance favorite Supe would be that you have to read a book featuring a supernatural being of your choice (vampire, werewolves, goblin, faeries....)....from your own personal shelves or TBR pile.

message 191: by D.G. (last edited Jun 14, 2012 08:07AM) (new)

D.G. | 2752 comments Mary - The starred shelves are personal shelves (a change that happened in the last round.) For these shelves, you just pick a book that fit that category and you don't have to pick from a particular shelf.

So for instance, for *Series Catch-Up, you'll just read a book from a series you already started (at least that's my interpretation, LOL!)

message 192: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 2484 comments I was hoping that's what the meant. So if my fave kind of supe is a dragon shifter than I can just read a dragon shifter book.

I was confused because favorite-supe wasn't a shelf but series catch-up is a shelf.

message 193: by [deleted user] (new)

Another Newbie question. I know that the New2you series is a series you have read no books from, but is the other shelf New Series for a new series to you or when the first book in a series has been published recently??

message 194: by ★Meghan★ (last edited Jun 14, 2012 11:15AM) (new)

★Meghan★ (starinheaven) | 541 comments Ok Ann Willow...here is the easiest way to do it. Anything that doesn't have the asterisks (*) before the shelf name is something that you actually have to pick from the "shelf" itself. The ones with the asterisks (*) are personal shelves which allow you to basically fit anything you want as long as it fits into that category for you. (If that makes sense.)

There are two ways to look and see if a book fits on a "shelf".

Option 1:
You can go to this link: http://www.goodreads.com/shelf
From there you can type in the shelf name at the top and see if your book is on that shelf or pick from the many on the shelves. (I personally like to pick from the many on the shelves.)

Option 2:
You can go the book-you-want-to-read's main Goodreads page and under "Genres", click "see top shelves". This will show you all the shelves that the book has been "shelved" under. If you find the one that was called for that week, you are in luck. Sometimes it could be many people that "shelved" it and sometimes it is only 1 person that "shelved" it. Last round I found a book I wanted to read with the shelf under page 27 or 28...it took forever to find. :)

Hope this helps you understand a little bit better :)

***Just another note! I am excited! I found at least 10 books to fit into each shelf :) And I own each and every one. What is even worse is that I haven't read any of them :)

message 195: by D.G. (new)

D.G. | 2752 comments Great explanation, ★Meghan★. :)

Something else to add is just because YOU wouldn't put a book under a particular shelf, doesn't mean that anybody else wouldn't. For instance, 8 people have shelved Dark Lover under 'magic' which I'd never do. So it's best to take take a broad approach when you are looking for a book to fit a shelf.

message 196: by Dawn (Kat N Hat) (new)

Dawn (Kat N Hat) (katnhat) | 473 comments ★Meghan★, thanks for the link. That helped alot with the bookshelves that I don't currently have.

Can't wait for teams to be posted.

message 197: by [deleted user] (new)

Brilliant, thank you girls, that's helped alot. I don't have many e-books, so trying to fit the ones I have to as many shelves as I can. I've been to my local library today and i can get some books for Bingo, but their selection is very poor due to it being so small and old. The rest I will purchase. Really looking forward to starting now :0)

There were quite a few tagged with labels I'd never have thought to put them on. I guess it's just best to dig through the shelf and see what's there.

message 199: by Paris (new)

Paris (pah13) | 1183 comments Thank you ladies so much for all of this. I'm a newbie this round and was starting to get a little nervous, but reading your explanations about the shelves and all that, I'm totally not nervous anymore. I cannot wait for teams to be announced and for Sunday to get here. I'm ready to go!

message 200: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 2484 comments If you are looking at a specific book to see if it's on a shelf. When looking at the shelves: use Ctrl/F and put the shelf name in the Find box. It'll alert you if that word is on that page. Much faster than looking at all the shelves especially when some books have many pages of shelves.
