BINGO R5 | Discussion Thread

Definitely! I'm just preparing in case the shelf called happened to be one of the ones we need to win. I wouldn't want to waste a whole day of reading in premium reading environment because I don't know for sure which shelf is called!
In case my book doesn't fit the shelf called then it wouldn't matter if I take a couple of extra days to read it because:
a) It's somebody else's winning shelf and the game is over
b) It's a non winning shelf
Thanks so much! 6am JST works for me.

This might be handy when the zombie apocalypse comes, we never did figure out what we would eat

:) Safe travels!
I'm posting the shelf announcement early because we have a category 4 typhoon heading our way and it's set to hit around 3a. Might lose power, so thought that was a good reason to post the shelf early.
Our next shelf is 'magic' ~ This is not a winning shelf.
Happy Reading, Everyone! :)
PS: You may start reading at anytime.

Hope everyone stays safe! I'm off on a multi-city road trip planned to end in time for what would have been shelf announcement.

Reader's Choice is the most popular with 5 teams

I guess what I am asking is if next Sunday (Steph time, Saturday afternoon usually my time) a potentially winning shelf gets called 8 hours earlier than expected and two teams post stamp requests within 8 hours of each other -- is that an overlap that would result in a tie?
Is there an overlap at all at which it would be a tie? (for example if winning stamp requests were made within 2 minutes of each other)?
I realize hurricane not a usual event and that a potentially winning shelf (whew!) was not selected by Mr. Randomizer. And I would not be thinking about ties except if "male lead" is called next it would be a major race. (There are male lead books I could have read in between time shelf was called early and the earliest expected shelf announcement time)

(off to look to see how within how many minutes of each other the winning teams posted their final stamp request)

Remember, its just a game :)))

I would expect that she would post the shelf announcement around the same time she usually posts it unless: she has an emergency of some kind or a possible weather issue like today. I'll do what I usually do on Saturdays (it usually posts on my Saturday afternoon) and just check frequently for the announcement.

Looks like R4 winning stamps were all posted at least a day apart http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/7... so was clearcut 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners

@Sandra -- I know it's only a game and that times are approximate. I drive myself nuts checking briefly around earliest time I think she might post (i.e., Midnight Sunday Japan time but more likely a normal wakeup hour) then sporadically around her normal posting time.
Just asking about some things before the potential winning shelves were called.
I was just wondering if it had been a winning shelf and had been an early shelf announcement if there would be a gap/overlap/allowance whatever for those team members that did not bother signing into goodreads early enough to get.
Or what if anything would be considered a tie since if two or more teams posted at same time the winning stamp request the goodreads servers would show in discussion thread as one minute apart (nevermind all the processing done between user keyboard, their computer, ISP and goodreads).
I don't think it matters one bit that Step posted shelf early this time. It was not going to be a winning stamp for any of the teams. I get that. I get that the tycoon is obviously more important than just a game.
Just asking because winning stamp is close. And, game or not, I would hate to be the one letting my team down because I scheduled my Saturday too tightly to check the shelf announcement quickly enough.
Frankly, I think a typhoon hitting Steph's area or one of the team captain's areas is cause for delaying game--particularly since power outages in all kinds of areas will cause problems with internet service. Acts of God and all that.

I'm not questioning today's stuff or anything about the typhoon.
...a little early... doesn't give advantage or disadvantage. Hours early if had been a winning shelf, maybe. Given how close some teams are to winning.
But if it had been a winning shelf and I had only checked Saturday afternoon (which is usually when it's called my time zone, too)...well let's just say it would have been posted early enough for me to have potentially read the winning book before other teams had checked for shelf announcement.
And before winning shelf gets called, I just wanted to know if there was a time overlap in which stamp requests would be considered a tie. If "male lead" was called and three teams posted within 1 minute of each other, 5 minutes, 5 hours ...hey, it could happen.
It's only a game; but, if I know I like to do my team the courtesy of saying so if I will be away from computer during shelf call or unable to start reading same day due to my schedule...if it was individual challenge, I would worry less.

I'm done and off for bed; will not post more on topic but will check for any "official" rulings. Hopefully before winning shelf call. *facepalms self for even bothering to do time zone conversions to figure out Steph's Sunday was her Saturday evening*

*sigh* even in my drab bookworm life, I am not going to resort to stalking the shelf announcement more than 24 hours in advance of what's scheduled (midnight Japan time).
I am going to lose by virtue of one "goodreads is overcapacity" error messsage...

My team needs male-lead, dragons and dark fantasy to win. I already have a book picked out for each. When I get up Sat. morning I'll check to see if it's been posted. Then I'll check every couple of hours. I'd be surprised if she deviates from her normal pattern unless there's an emergency of some kind.

If my team posts final stamp request within a minute or two of another team, I will be blaming the loss on the "over capacity" messages here at goodreads (and the trolls and sock puppets contributing to the issue) :) as easier to handle than stupid 'ol me me actually rearranging Saturday plans for just a game only to have game change schedule.

Steph puts in a lot of work into these games and she does all possible to keep it as fair as possible.

There are several books that fit both shelves that my team needs to win and I've had them on deck for several weeks. As it is, the book I ended up choosing for the magic shelf also fits those two other shelves because that's what I was expecting to read this week.

Once the winning shelf was called last time we all read as quickly as real life would allow. However, one of my teammates in a different timezone posted her review overnight while I was asleep. Sorry team, but I wasn't waiting up all night for it. :) In the meantime, the other team captain was in a timezone where she was able to post their stamp request while I was sleeping. I did check and post on Goodreads at like 6:00 AM on a weekday which would normally never do but that was as far as I could go in pushing real life aside for the challenge.
No matter what time the winning shelf is posted, it's posted at the same time for everyone. There are pluses and minuses to each time zone and it's probably fairly well spread out amongst the different teams. And no matter the outcome, it was still really fun to be in it at the last week.
So c'mon psychics and, um, whichever the second shelf is that Team Twelve needs!

Rest assured that barring any major catastrophes, the next shelf will be posted Sunday morning Japan time. (Previous shelves have been posted between 6-9am JST. The time zone converter can help determine the time difference between JST and your time zone: http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock...)
Good luck to all teams! Happy Reading!

My team (#14) is out but we are still reading out of fun. :)

Well, maybe if it gets "clarified" or all the sediment sinks to bottom when baking like if you put in a centrifuge....ack...up too late and brain static if I am giving this too much thought.
