Is that "legal," Lauren? I have some that I have labeled "male-pov" which I could certainly change to "male-lead"... Is it only "legal" for books I've read, or future books in the series I plan to read, or any book I wish to mark that way (that applies, of course).

message 307: by Lisa Kay (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 1586 comments I don't want to break any rules my first time at play. Steph & Judithe might ban me! Eep!

Midu Hadi | 1732 comments hehehe i've wanted to do the same thing so many times!

message 311: by Lauren (new)

Lauren (laurenjberman) Lol! I don't want to break any rules my first time either, Lisa Kay.

Steph wrote: Those are among some of our slimmest lists, but Male Lead has 1,000+ and Psychic has 2,000+ choices, so not too bad. But, if anyone's willing/able to add to them, that is allowed.

If I understand that correctly, then you can re-shelve books that you have already read. I don't think its "legal" for books that have not been read yet.

message 312: by Lisa Kay (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 1586 comments What is it is part of a series that was shelved that way by someone else with the earlier books, but not the later?

message 313: by Lauren (new)

Lauren (laurenjberman) I guess we need to ask Steph for clarification...

message 314: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 2484 comments Team 11 is going with Ocean's 11. That's the one that got the most votes.

Great name! :)

Sinatra or Clooney? ;-)

message 316: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 2484 comments Clooney for me. I suggested Clooney's 11 but it didn't get any votes.

2nd place was 11th Hour.

Sandra | 25912 comments Lisa Kay wrote: "What is it is part of a series that was shelved that way by someone else with the earlier books, but not the later?"

You can only read the books listed on the shelves, so if the book you are up to isn't listed, your bad, so sad. That rule has been in since Round 1.

As to switching your shelf name, definitely up to you, but it isn't encouraged, especially after the game starts. Makes no difference whether books are read or to-read, re the legality.

Christina (AKA Babbling) (babblingbookreviews) | 1242 comments Mary wrote: "Clooney for me. I suggested Clooney's 11 but it didn't get any votes.

Ah. Your team mates must not be Clooney fans. ;-)

message 320: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32726 comments Hi, Ladies. Basically, it's like Sandra said, we do not encourage players to change or add to shelves because, at least for me, it takes the fun out of picking a book to read if you put the one you wanna read on the shelf.

Each round I pick shelves that have a minimum of 1,000 books shelved in hopes that people will be able to find 1+ they want to read. I also try to mix it up a bit each round and add/remove some shelves. Keep in mind that not every shelf will be called during the game.

No one will be kicked out of the game for shelving books. First of all, I don't look to see which GR members shelved every book. So, I wouldn't know if you were one of them unless you told me. Second, it's up to you how you want to play this game. Do you want to be surprised by the shelf announcement each week and excited about hunting for a book to read - or - do you want to watch out for the shelf announcement and know right away which book you'll be reading for it? Everyone's different.

Leah | 880 comments Hi Steph, Team 6 is going with the team name Get My Book Fix Sixes. Also, you can put me down as captain.

Thanks muchly!! :-D

message 322: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32726 comments Thanks, Leah. Updating now. :)

message 323: by Lauren (new)

Lauren (laurenjberman) Thanks for the clarification Sandra and Steph. I think I would rather be surprised so I'll look through the shelves and find something that is already on there.

I think this game is an excellent chance to pick and read something new and different.

message 326: by Lisa Kay (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 1586 comments Thanks, Steph! I'm not touching my shelves. Sorry ladies. LOL! I'll wait until after BSB is over, if I change them at all.

message 327: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32726 comments :)

message 328: by AH (new)

AH | 2271 comments This game is also good for whittling down some of those books that have been sitting on the to-read pile for a long time. Unfortunately Fortunately, you get to add a whole new pile of interesting books to read.

You could, theoretically, make up your own rules for your personal choices. For example, I will only read books that I have on hand. Or read only the books you have downloaded for free. As long as they appear on the shelves, you are OK.

message 329: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 2484 comments I forgot to mention that I am team 11's captain.

message 330: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25912 comments Shakes head, not sure what you mean Mary, you were made Captain 2 days ago.

message 331: by Deidre (new)

Deidre (AlaskaReader) | 267 comments As to shelving books, some of us have many many (like hundreds) of to be read books. I generally ended up just putting them on when I read them. Because I have so many unread, and can't remember most of them, I think just shelving all of them to read means I will be surprised as anyone when I find one, as opposed to buying a book I already have but never shelved...I hate to admit how many times I've done that (some books it seems like I have bought or swapped for 3 of the same book!)

message 332: by Mary X (last edited Jun 18, 2012 07:44AM) (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 2484 comments Yeah I noticed that steph had put it on our thread after I posted. But when I posted this morning, I didn't know if it had seen or not.

I usually shelve books as I acquire them. When I'm going through the shelves here to see what I have on them, I will then add that shelf to the book under my shelves. So when I look at the book I can see all the shelves it popped up on and decide if I want to save it for another shelf or read it for the one just called. IF that makes any sense.

message 333: by D.G. (new)

D.G. | 2752 comments Sometimes I shelve as I acquire them, sometimes after I read them. But I just shelve my books by genre and not by theme.

Susan (susayq ~) (susayq) | 247 comments I'm thinking of Adding some shelves while playing this.

Debbie's Spurts (D.A.) | 2179 comments When looking at announced shelves -- is there any way to sort by author or title?

message 336: by D.G. (new)

D.G. | 2752 comments Nope! They are sorted by the # of times they show up on the shelf and sometimes they are duplicates for whatever reason (I mentioned that in the GR feedback group a while back and nobody paid attention...I guess with all the glitches going on, that's something minor!)

message 337: by AH (new)

AH | 2271 comments Deborah wrote: "When looking at announced shelves -- is there any way to sort by author or title?"

Deborah, if you have an idea about a book you want to read, you can see how that book has been shelved. If for example, the book was Dark Lover by JR Ward and you wanted to see if it fell into the alpha male shelf, you could click on see top shelves (right hand side) then if the shelf appears in that listing, you can usually find it on the shelf that was called. So for this example Dark Lover is on the alpha male shelf 21 times. If you look at our shelves you can see how many times each book was shelved and usually it is in order from most to least.

Hope that was clear as mud.

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 1586 comments Deborah wrote: "When looking at announced shelves -- is there any way to sort by author or title?"

There is when looking at the SOS bookshelves:

• Go into SOS bookshelves from the homepage.
• Click on the tag you want, say “young adult” – which has 262.
• Click on the column entitled author or title.
• You can change them from A-Z or Z-A.

message 339: by D.G. (new)

D.G. | 2752 comments I thought Deborah was asking to sort within the GR shelves (which I took it to mean when she said the "announced" shelves.) If that's what she wants, there's no way to sort it.

message 340: by Lisa Kay (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 1586 comments You are probably right, D.G. I'm guessing that is what she meant... but just in case. ☺

message 341: by Lisa Kay (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 1586 comments However, she can always use "Ctrl+F" and type in what she is looking for on that shelf screen. That helped me a lot in locating them instead of scanning.

message 342: by AH (new)

AH | 2271 comments Steph had some instructions for finding a book - I always saw it as a little complicated.

Debbie's Spurts (D.A.) | 2179 comments Lisa Kay wrote: "However, she can always use "Ctrl+F" and type in what she is looking for on that shelf screen. That helped me a lot in locating them instead of scanning."

LOL, on a keyboard I do. On the touch screen things ... yuck. (except on the iPad, after an embarrassing number of weeks I did figure out that at bottom of website/google/search thing at right of page url if I typed a search and glanced towards the bottom it gave me an "on this page" find/search option)

message 344: by D.G. (new)

D.G. | 2752 comments Good tip on the iPad, Deborah. :)

*hangs head in shame* it took me way too long to figure that one out. And I am so good in the Windows and Unix/Linux operating systems and actually started out on Macs.

It actually annoys me less that I have to page thru so many pages finding books than that so many are duplicated (I guess different editions or formats or something).

message 346: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 2484 comments I've found it's easiest to do what Lisa Kay suggest with the ctrl+f if you already know what book you want to find. It's easier to go through the pages of shelves on that one book than it is to go through all the books that have been added to that shelf.

message 347: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25912 comments Each to their own. I like scanning the shelves, just to give myself options, and see where the mood hits.

Of course, if I want to read a specific book and its not on the first couple ie 10 pages I'll look on the book page & top shelves.

And I always add books when I acquire them, otherwise 2 or 3 copies can appear here and thats not a good thing.

message 348: by AH (new)

AH | 2271 comments I often find that scanning the shelves can be a relaxing thing to do on the weekend (unless I get to GRRRR p77 before I find a book). I grab a cup of coffee, shoo away the kids, and search for a book that is hopefully on my own reading next shelf.

message 349: by Julianne (new)

Julianne | 354 comments I like to scroll through the pages too. And I find you never know if there's a book that you wanted but forgot too add to your TBR...because most of us don't have enough books on our TBR lists. ;)
