Sérgio | 462 comments That's too bad.

Personally, I read plenty of substance in that comic. It's a misanthropic view on mankind, seen in this comic with only two choices: follow their most basic instincts and live by them (that being lust for money, power or sex) and in that way we are not very different from the robot Pinocchio that does what he does without self analysis, ( this made me think a lot about self-determination). The other is being like Jiminy and thinking too much to the point of depression and inaction.

That's only the main part of the "substance" of this book. By playing with plenty of fictional clichés it ends up having an interesting viewpoint about humanity.

Paul | 286 comments Something that completely dissapointed was A Game of Thrones: The Graphic Novel, Vol.1.
It's a good thing there's still the actual book and even the TV series, cause had this been done as a graphic novel originally, I would never even have given it a try.

Bad art, and yes bad story!... or rather bad adaptation of a story.

They even try to "excuse" the badness by saying you can't "really" adapt to graphic novel form without making sacrifices... I dissagree... one only has to read the graphic novel adaptations of Stphen King's The Stand: Captain Trips or Philip K. Dick's Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? to see that faithful adaptations with very good art can be made. Even when you DO have to cut some of the text out.

Awful? Really? Why? :("

Okay I changed my mind The End League is the worst book I've ever read.

Thomas Jacques (thomasjacques) | 2 comments Frank Miller's "The Dark Knight Strikes Again" springs immediately to mind. Certainly, it's not horribly drawn, and it's not the most boring read I've come across. No, it is the worst because he fails so horribly. Having conceived possibly the greatest Batman story ever with the original "Dark Knight," it is so dissappointing that he so lost the feel for what is great about Batman and the DC Universe on this project. The characters are dissappointing, shallow, lurid. He appears to treat these iconic figures with none of the respect they deserve, offering silly often tasteless riffs instead of the mind-boggling leaps of character refinement that marked the original "Dark Knight." It is so bad that I chose to ignore everything about it when I embrace the Dark Knight storyline.

Kevin Izworski | 75 comments I recently read Daniel X Alien Hunter by James Paterson. It only cost me $1 in a charity auction, so no regret over buying it but it was garbage. And I like James Paterson novels, Graphic novels are just not his forte. Very predictable with a been there done that feel to it. And the art was over drawn, if you know what I mean. It didn't look like a comic book, more like a fancy modern cartoon show.

I know other bestselling authors have dabbled in Graphic novels: Dean Koontz did a Frankenstein and there are Stephen King graphic novels (I think based on Dark Tower). I wonder if they are any good or if the authors should stick to regular novels?

The Stephen King Dark Tower stuff is for the most part adapted by Peter David or just written by him based on Outlines by King. Peter's a pretty accomplished comic writer (and one of my faves) so I'd think they'd be pretty good. Also I've just read the Stephen King written back-ups in American Vampire and they're very good. Couldn't speak to the Koontz stuff.

I've actually read the first volume of American Vampire that was partially written by Stephen King and it was really good! I have to read his Dark Tower series!

Kevin Izworski | 75 comments Sounds about right, I can't see Steven King putting his name on something crappy. Paterson tells good stories, but not really ones that translate to comics. Maybe if he did noir or detective/suspense, but the alien thing seems to be outside of his element.

Brian Earth X and all associated prequels and sequels by Alex Ross. Dude can paint iconic as all get out....but can't right worth a damn.

Marc | 5 comments I may get slammed for this. But I am new to graphic novels. I am 31 now and I was 28 when I picked up my first graphic novel. (It was The Watchmen which for me is one of the greatest items ever written.) This year I really made it a mission to buy more. I read American Vampire 1 & 2 and The Sandman. Ive looked up top reads lists and kind of went from those tops tens etc...But for some reason Saga of the Swamp Thing was a tough read. I don't know if its cause I only read about 30-45mins at a time on my lunch breaks. But it just had an odd flow for me. Don't know why. I completed it, but for now on my very low amount of reads, this is last on my list so far. I am sure others I read later on will fall below it though. Again, I haven't read much yet but its all I could go off of. lol

Rosa | 23 comments I can't get through V for Vendetta. I don't know why. I really want to but for whatever reason it will not hold my attention (actually I'm not totally sure this counts as my worst read ever since I still haven't read more than the first 20 pages or so, but it's certainly my most disappointing reading fail.)

The first few books are a bit slow of V for Vendetta, as Moore readily admits because it was his first serious attempt at making a longer form serialized comic. If you stick with it, you might get into it.

WOW! V pretty much is what got me into graphic novels. I can see how early on V might be a little "over-theatrical-tedious" but such a powerful story. Try to stick with it, it's pretty heavy. The art's a little rough, but I think kind of appropriate for this one.

On the other hand... what a lot of people consider great others find to garbage, I get that.

Valerie (darthval) I am new to graphic novels, so I don't have a lot of experience from which to pull.

The worst I've read to date is World's Finest #1. I got it as a GR First Read and was really excited to try a book with female heroes. Huntress and Powergirl turned out to be vapid and inane caricatures. Disappointing.

World's Finest #1 (New 52 World's Finest, #1) by Paul Levitz

Thus proving Kevin's point that "what a lot of people consider great, others find garbage," Worlds' Finest is one of my favorite series from DC right now.

But, to each their own.
