However, agreeing with the above, that sounds accurate. There's more than one cover edition.
Flying Solo by Ralph Fletcher
When the substitute for Mr. "Fab" Fabiano never shows up and his sixth-grade students are on their own, they set out to prove that they can run the class by themselves. With a little ingenuity and some careful planning, they might just succeed. But when a fight breaks out between Bastian Fauvell and Rachel White over a classmate, Tommy Feathers, who died six months earlier, everything begins to fall apart. Can Rachel deal with the anxieties that plunged her into silence the day Tommy died?

The story goes a little bit like this:
The teacher (I think he/she got sick.) was a bit late when she told the school office that she couldn't come and the substitute was sick too, I think. Anyways, so the kids, didn't have a teacher that day but they continued with their class, or at least boys also did... for most of the part. Anyways, nearing the end of the story, they decided to talk about their classmate who recently died. From what I've read, he wasn't too popular and he like whistling (was it?) a tune from Blink 182. When the school found out about them not having a teacher that they, there was a commotion but they all repeated that they didn't have a teacher and they continued with their classes.
I can't remember the author's name but he had another book about this girl who had ... an interest on newspapers? Something like that. At the beginning of the story, she was in her classroom and they were stapling articles on the walls, I think
Please help me. The book is really important to me.
