It's a good one, isn't it?

HJ | 948 comments I've noticed that some people have half-understood the "Jane and I" concept, but use it incorrectly when "Jane and I" are the objects e.g. "My mother made supper for Jane and I": horrors!! But while a lot can be forgiven in normal conversation, I see it in writing quite often, in blogs which are otherwise well-written. That's the sound of *my* teeth gnashing.

Reverting to the topic ... does anyone else find, in Bath Tangle, that Rotherham's behaviour towards Emily really sticks in the throat? He admits he's 'used her abominably', but he's more than just upset her a bit - (view spoiler)

But your point (in the spoiler) that he throws it away is too true! its utterly ridiculous.

That drives me crazy, too, because it sounds so pretentious!

How odd - I contributed to that discussion and I'd forgotten all about it!

On reflection, I suppose Rotherham's appalling behaviour is a flaw in his character, rather than in the book. It's certainly not inconsistent with what we know of him (view spoiler) and there's no rule to say that we have to like the heroine's love interest. It's enough that she does, and she obviously does; he wouldn't suit me, but it takes all sorts and I doubt whether anybody else would have suited Serena.

Haha, Jenny! I'm glad I'm not the only one who is... forgetful.

Janhavi (janhavi88) | 165 comments Jenny- LOL! I think what you say is why I like the book quite a bit. Its a flaw in him but the book itself is well written. Rotherham and Serena have numerous flaws- but they are completely right for *each other*. So I think it works very well as a romance even if the main characters may be dislikable in many ways.

Karlyne Landrum | 3895 comments One nice thing about Rockham and Serena being married is that they'll be so busy with their own tempestuous marriage that they won't have time to be either interfering or ornery to anyone else!
