Introductions!
Thanks for the welcome, everybody. I'll take a look at the tasks today. I love that you can repeat them!

It has helped me dig into my TBR while introducing me to many books I would never have seen.
Hi there! I've been lurking for a week or so, perusing the tasks and making some plans, and I'm excited to join in! Now that it's March, I thought I'd introduce myself.I also, believe it or not, live in Portland, Oregon. I work for a small non-profit, doing development and communications, and when I'm not at work or reading, I'm hiking, backpacking, or climbing. About 70% of my reading is fiction (classics and contemporary lit), but I also enjoy biographies, history, social science, and books of essays.

Howdy Bucket! Wow -- we should start some sort of little Portland sub-challenge with all the Portlanders we have that are actively participating now. :-)
Welcome to the group!

Perhaps highest scorer treats the rest of the Portlanders to Salt and Straw? :)
I like BOTH of those plans. I LOVE Salt and Straw ice cream, and Powell's. Plus my score won't be as high as the last challenge. :-)
Karen, come on down! Heck -- everyone who wants to can meet us in Portland. LOL
I lived in Portland from 2002 - 2010 and this thread is making me miss everything there (but mostly Powell's) so much! Two of my sisters and my mom currently live there so I'll plan my next visit around this awesome book and ice cream meet-up :)
Sounds like we have a great social event shaping up! I say let's go for it and get something on the calendar. Meet-up at Powell's? Wouldn't that be fun!

I'm free Sunday afternoon! :) Or we can pick a day a little further in the future... Also, Henry's (a block or so from Powell's) has happy hour all day on Sundays.
Hi guys, my name is Margarita! I'm excited to hear your book recs and share some of my own. Don't be surprised, because some of them are a little strange, but fun! :)
Hey everyone-I'm Sara and I just joined the group today. I want to get back into reading challenges, and I wanted a group that was a bit different than all the other challenge groups out there-think I found it :) Looks like the next round starts September 1st, so I'll get familiar with how things run and then join in when things reset in a couple weeks!
Hi everyone, I'm Will from Florida (well originally from Germany). I read like crazy since my childhood (because there was nothing much else allowed...). I have read about 4000 books (I own most of them) in English, and about half of that in German (and some in French, Italian, and Spanish, but that didn't work out to well).I get the feeling that on goodreads I found some people that think similar about books...
Hello everyone! My name is Margaret and I'm 25 years old. I live in Muskoka, Ontario, and work at a library. I adore reading, and love all genres. I look forward to many good discussions here. :)
Welcome, Margaret! We're halfway through this season's challenge. Any books you have read since Sept 1 qualify, so feel free to jump in any time.
Hi everybody! My name's Kelly, I'm from Brazil. Looking forward to start my participation here soon, and share some good books with you all!Sorry for my english and see you!
:D
Welcome, Kelly. We're happy to have you. Feel free to ask any questions in the Fall General Questions thread or the Socializing Thread. We'll be starting our Winter Challenge on December 1 - information coming soon!
Thank you, Elizabeth! Can I join the Fall Challenge or do I have to wait for Winter? I've been looking to the tasks and I think I might get some points for the books I read during this period...
Hi! I'm Kate, I joined a few weeks ago but haven't been very active so looking forward to trying out the Winter challenge once I figure it all out!
Welcome, Kate! Feel free to jump in whenever you are ready. We're a pretty open group, ask questions if you need any help.
Welcome, Kate! Sometimes things are a bit confusing at first and we're all here to answer questions. Be sure to check out the FAQ!
Hi, I'm Áine and I'm a Shelfari-convert! Love the idea of this group and excited to see some of the info you've shared like the Tournament of Books lists and David Bowie lists!
Welcome, Áine. Please let us know if you have questions settling in here (both at Reading with Style AND at Goodreads).
Welcome to RwS, Áine! You will find this group LOVES lists. We try to uncover lots of fun ones every season. Enjoy!
Hello all. I'm Cindy and am from the New Orleans area.I read all the rules and info on the tasks and styles, and made my lists of books. I don't know if I will get to read them all since I'm starting a month late. However, it looks like I can use books I've read since June 1, is this correct?
I only read Kindle ebooks, and luckily I was able to fill the tasks with books I already have. The only task I don't have a book picked for is the DDC. I may just have to steal other people's ideas :)

Hi, I actually joined about a month or so ago, but am in the midst of a very time consuming Goodreads Olympics challenge, which will be ending in November, so may be joining a challenge here starting with December 1 if it is not to overwhelming after the one I've just been in which has involved about 5 books every two weeks.
So, I found this group because I know Elizabeth from my former stomping grounds, Shelfari. I read a variety of types of books, but not all kinds of books, and no longer bother to finish everything I start to read. I also now feel free to read the ending well before getting there, which would have totally horrified me to hear I was going to do when I was younger.
Hi Karin! Glad to have you. December 1 will be just right for starting the Winter challenge, but if you feel like it, you can use any book you've read since September 1 and claim it for the current challenge. Many of us (yours truly especially) can't read enough books in a challenge period to actually read all 30 possibles. And do keep in mind that you can repeat tasks, so if you find one or two that meets all of your needs, you may read for it/them to your heart's content.

I am in the Goodreads Olympics challenge too.

Once we're done the closing ceremonies in the Olympics, I may come in and fill up what I can.

Which team are you on? I'm one one of the Orange teams, not a top contender by any means, but we hope to pull ourselves up to an overall gold (my silly idea when I joked what we needed to get and people thought we should try for it) so I am very much looking forward for it to end. I was expecting a book a sport; guess I didn't read closely when I signed up.
Karin, you are a glutton for punishment lolI must confess of burning up from Olympics... Can't wait for it to be over! :p

The funny thing is, not always! I was actually only joking when I said how many pages we'd need to read to get a gold overall given our normal scores, but when you started talking about how we could do that, that competitive streak I inherited from my dad just came right through. I'm not competitive in everything, but we played a lot of games together as kids and as a family when I was growing up, and no one played to lose.
Anyway, once I read that last 45 pages, I will be very happy to have finally read that 1136 page book I bought all of those years ago, even if I have been reading much of it too fast to soak in all I'd like to, so for that it's been worth it.

Well, I took you seriously hahaha so it's still your fault :p
I do hope you still enjoy reading that massive tome.
Tien wrote: "Karin wrote: "The funny thing is, not always! It's just with our group and responsibilities it seemed hard to do. I couldn't have done that sport after sport like the top contenders did, and you have a very little one, etc, etc.
Tien wrote: "Karin, if ever there's a team challenge, I want to be in a team with you ;D"And vice versa!

Hi Rachel:
Welcome! I live in Canby, and work in downtown Portland. It's nice to have a fellow Oregonian in the group.
