message 4905: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21813 comments I must admit I was a bit surprised by the 'miniaturists eye'
I do put in detail because I feel that used correctly, detail gives depth and reality
I'm just hoping it's Buster Keaton the reviewer has in mind :-)

Obviously my childhood watching old silent films on 'The Golden Silents' TV show has paid off :-)

Jim | 21813 comments And another review!

David Hadley reviewed The Cartographer's Apprentice
1 of 1 people found the following helpful
These are four excellent short stories introducing the early days of Benor

These are four excellent short stories introducing the early days of Benor. Each tale pulses with humour as the well-drawn characters engage in various adventures. Each story features great dialogue, lots of good food, wine and ale, all taking place in a believable and well-drawn world where the streets pulse with life. The reader gets a powerful sense of being there in a real world with real people going about their real lives.

I look forward to reading the next book and wish I’d read this one far sooner.

David writes so beautifully :-)
Thanks, made my day, shallow that I am

Better than being an unkempt secret.

Jim | 21813 comments I can do both!

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments I'm sure you can. You are a most accomplished gentleman.

There will be more reviews when I get around to reading the other books of yours that have slipped down the back of my Kindle.

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Along with some fluff, half sucked sweets and bus tickets? Plus a few pre decimal coins...

message 4922: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21813 comments Don't knock it, I've kept worse company :-)

Genuinely glad you liked it David

message 4923: by M.T. (new)

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8051 comments Me too, I read them all far too fast. I want more now. I’ve tried reading the bus ticket but the sucked sweet is stuck to it and won’t come off!

Cheers

MTM

That's the place.

It is near a portal to another dimension where it is rumoured single socks lie in wait to attack lost pens.

When you look at four dimensional displays of this universe it does look like a giant sofa

Makes sense.

Jim | 21813 comments Will wrote: "Where's the dog stretched out on one end, though?"

That would explain the otherwise inexplicably discarded chew toys

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Where is the odd shoe and coat hanger generator located?

It could get awfully crowded around there, especially if you go straight on 'til morning!

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Yes, there are a massive number of Lost Boys by now.

The Criminal endeavours of Shadon Ramscrake

I confess that the nature of the crime committed was severely limited by the out of copyright paintings available.
Had Rembrandt painted somebody stealing a urinal divider wall, I would have written the story

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Were there ANY pictures of somebody stealing a urinal divider wall? It does seem a bit niche...

message 4942: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21813 comments given the nature of modern art I wouldn't be surprised if the urinal divider wall wasn't an artwork in its own right!

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments You're most likely right. The Tate Modern would be sorely lacking without at least one...

prominently placed

then with a series of hopelessly lost drunks who keep using it for its assumed purpose :-)

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments And with some random phone numbers and rude messages scrawled on it.

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments You'd be surprised at what can be considered art. I am exhibiting in a show in a nearby village at the moment - paintings and sculpture - and in the larger hall we have set out three small tables so that visitors can, if they wish, enjoy a cup of tea and some home baking whilst mid perusal of the artworks. One visitor earlier in the week had thought the tables were an "installation". To be fair my small floral arrangements on each were pretty impressive.

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments If you drop a used tissue on the floor that will become a piece of art!

message 4948: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21813 comments When I saw a calf in a tank of formalin being art, I gave up being surprised :-)

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments That sounds like the leavings of a decommissioned science lab.

message 4950: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21813 comments a decommissioned science lab would be more interesting!
