Hi! My name is Janice and I love history, historical fiction, and biography/genealogy among other things. I think I have learned more about history by researching my own genealogy than by any history class. I like reading the stories of people in different times and finding out what daily life was like. The most recent book I read was "The Biggest Brother: The Life of Major Dick Winters" by Larry Alexander.
Biggest Brother The Life Of Major Dick Winters, The Man Who Led The Band of Brothers by Larry Alexander

I look forward to finding other good books to explore here.

message 2512: by Alisa (new)

Alisa (mstaz) Welcome Janice. With your interests I am sure you will find much to discuss and explore among our threads. We are glad to have you.

As you get started, please take a moment to familiarize yourself with the "add book/author" feature when you comment. It makes things so much easier for people to see your book recommendations, because they can see the cover and the links to the author. And it helps the goodreads software connect books with groups that talk about them. You got the cover right, but need to add the author links as well. This is how the books you've mentioned should look:

Elizabeth S (esorenson) | 2011 comments Glad to have you join us, Janice. I read Ambrose's Band of Brothers a couple of years ago, and I can see that a bio of Winters would be really interesting and fill in a lot of detail. I hope you enjoy the group!

Brian Glasspoole (btg55) | 3 comments Hello! My name is Brian from Oakville, Ontario. I love reading about (primarily) 20th century history and was delighted to discover the History Book Club. This will really fill a void for me as a means of sharing thoughts on books I have read and enjoyed. Legacy of Ashes was sitting unread on my book shelf so I am jumping right in to get caught up with the rest of the participants and to enjoy others' opinions on this fascinating topic.

message 2517: by Alisa (new)

Alisa (mstaz) Hi Brian! ~ We are glad you discovered the group and decided to join. This club has a way of feeding the to-read pile so please explore and discover and participate, of course.

Before you get started please take a moment to familiarize yourself with the "add book/author" feature when you comment. It makes things so much easier for people to see your book recommendations, because they can see the cover and the links to the author. And it helps the goodreads software connect books with groups that talk about them. This is how the books you've mentioned should look:

When you comment, be sure to always site any books or authors you mention using the "add book/author" feature provided by goodreads. It makes things so much easier for people to see what book you are talking about, because they can see the cover and the links to the author. And it helps the goodreads software connect books with groups that talk about them. And it is a requirement for our group. Here is an example of how a book should look:

message 2524: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (AmandaLB) | 1 comments Hi, my name is Amanda and I live in Vermont. I hold a degree in History and have always loved the Middle Ages. My reading preferences lean towards both fiction and non-fiction from that time period but I will read whatever I get my hands on! Recently I have been reading a lot of non-fiction about WWI and the formation of the Middle Eastern countries as we know them. I would love some recommendations about fiction set in that era. I am currently reading...A Peace to End All Peace: The Fall of the Ottoman Empire and the Creation of the Modern Middle East and am looking forward to re-reading All Quiet on the Western Front

Reading both historical fiction and nonfiction on the same topics is really educational. We like to discuss the nonfictional aspects in our historical fiction reads, so that would be a big plus whenever you join is in those.

Whatever reads and discussions you choose to join in, I hope you have fun!
