TIG: Yes Virginia, There is an e-book version (for U.S.)
It sure seems like this would then exclude you from titles that are US-only? I guess not an issue if you're solely reading Tigana (while changed to 'UK'), and then switch back to 'US' when finished, but not really workable if you're reading multiple titles at once on the Kindle.
Actually, Not just speaking for myself, but a few others as well have reported that switching back to US lets you keep the book on your device. If anyone has trouble please chime in, or if it worked, speak up as well!
Really want for people to be able to read this book!
Switching back to US works just fine. You only need to be set to UK when you purchase it. Once the book is in your account, you can download and read it on any Kindle-enabled device (iPad/iPhone/Android/Kindle). It really works, I promise!
At the risk of bringing up a controversial subject (and I swear my goal is not to start a right/wrong discussion or a morality discussion), is switching regions in any way a violation of Amazon's rules/terms of service for Kindle?
terpkristin wrote: "At the risk of bringing up a controversial subject (and I swear my goal is not to start a right/wrong discussion or a morality discussion), is switching regions in any way a violation of Amazon's r..."Probably not. What if I really move to the UK for a day? If it were up to Amazon, they would have all books available everywhere.
They even provide instructions on changing your country with no mention of any terms here http://www.amazon.com/gp/help/custome...
Actually, funny enough, I will legitimately be in London next week for a day.Hmm. Alright, people who like the book, sell me on it. Cuz I'm not sold.
Terpkristin: think a cross between Lies of Locke Lamora and Name of the Wind, without the "growing up" backstory from either, for the first part of the book, then a more expansive scope after that.More importantly, I would look at the reviews here on Goodreads. There are not too many better-reviewed Fantasy book here.
Lastly, I would say read the first five chapters to see whether it grabs you.
So how do you change your region on, say, a Kindle Fire? Assuming I want to get it before I go to London next week?
I don't know about a Kindle Fire but with a normal Kindle it's changed via the Amazon site, not on the device itself.
That's good to know, since I have an iPad.Thanks for posting the instructions, Nimrod. They're not my instructions. I just did the legwork since I know how confused people can be navigating the web.
Aloha wrote: "Thanks for posting the instructions, Nimrod. They're not my instructions. I just did the legwork..."Sure thing, but it did come from your post so I figured you should get credit!
BTW, I have an iPad as well so it does work on iPad! The way I look at it, it seems to be an account change, not a device change.
Something to note on this, as I've just done it the other way around for another book (using a borderlinx.com address) is that if you have subscriptions, they are all cancelled and reassigned to your new region in the appropriate currency. Then when you switch back to your home region they're all cancelled and reassigned again. So you may want to a) pick a time you have no subs due for payment and b) plenty of battery to download all the notifications.
I think I'll wait until I hear from some others who have tried this and not faced any repurcussions. Otherwise I'll be one of the ones skipping. My local library doesn't have it and I'd rather not buy a paperback.
Rik wrote: "I think I'll wait until I hear from some others who have tried this and not faced any repurcussions."I said multiple times in the other thread on this I switch my Kindle between regions all the time. It's normally set to Australia but I change it to the US sometimes to get books available there. I've never lost anything I've already bought.

That link comes up with a page not found for me.
@Tina, I think This is the Link Vladimir was trying to link to.Just scroll down to "Viewing and Updating Your Country or Region".
Rik wrote: "I think I'll wait until I hear from some others who have tried this and not faced any repurcussions."I have done this repeatedly with no problems.
Once the book is in your account, you can switch back and still download the file on ANY Kindle-enabled device. I have done this several times to get books from the UK on my iPad, Kindle touch, Android phone and windows Kindle app.
I promise you, there are no problems!
Nimrod wrote: "@Tina, I think This is the Link Vladimir was trying to link to.Just scroll down to "Viewing and Updating Your Country or Region"."
Not this one, but similar. I just updated my post and made sure the link worked this time. For some reason it removed # last time, so the link was broken.
Hmmm, it looks as though in Vladimir's link, there is a reference to what Caroline was talking about..."If you are a U.S. customer traveling internationally and have accepted International Delivery Fees for services such as wirelessly receiving periodicals or personal documents, the fees for those services will be displayed on the Manage Your Kindle Page."
Anyone else run into that? I don't have subscriptions, so not sure.
If you change your Amazon settings to U.K. does it give you prices in dollars or pounds? And if its the latter what does that translate to in dollars?
Rik wrote: "If you change your Amazon settings to U.K. does it give you prices in dollars or pounds? And if its the latter what does that translate to in dollars?"Amazon lets you always pay in your own currency. That's set by your regular amazon settings, not your kindle settings.
So whenever I buy something from Amazon UK, it's still charged to my US credit card in dollars.
@Rik, a quick Google Search shows the price to be $8.60 USD so cheaper than the US paperback or the Audible book...I would have said exactly how much I was charged, but I didn't really pay much attention to that myself.
Hmm, odd, it seems that Amazon has the entire book available online as a "sample" hereAm I the only one seeing that?
@Nimrod I just took a cursory look, but it does appear that the entire book is available. I don't know that I could read this book that way. BTW thanks for posting this about the UK e-book version. I'm gonna try this now!

This book has had me on the edge from the first page, I felt I had to make sure everyone knew it IS possible to get the ebook... Hope you enjoy it a much as I have!
I have just tried this, the instructions worked and I am now a proud owner of Tigana. Donated the original book years ago.Was able to switch back to US afterward
Thanks so much for this, I was pretty distraught that I wasn't going to be able to read this one. :)
Thanks, Nimrod. Worked well. I also used Emirates Stadium. Anything other than Old Trafford would have worked though :)
Thank you so much! It's been so frustrating trying to get ebooks for this and the Vaginal Fantasy bookclubs and finding out the ebooks are invisible for me in Australia. *scampers off to buy lotsa legal ebooks"

Tigana is available on Kindle and iBooks for Australia
Tigana is available on Kindle and iBooks for Australia
Actually, this doesn't work all the time, for some reason I'm blocked from buying from Amazon.com now although I have a real address in the States.. It might work one time or twice...
Napoez3 wrote: "Actually, this doesn't work all the time, for some reason I'm blocked from buying from Amazon.com now although I have a real address in the States.. It might work one time or twice..."I've changed it far more then a couple times.
@Tassie Dave, I think Melinda didn't mean for Tigana, I took it as she has seen this be the opposite problem where a book is not available in Australia... This workaround should work in both scenarios.
Thanks for the information. Just did this and it worked perfectly. Sent it to Calibre and converted to epub for my Nook.
Thanks very much for this hint. It allowed me to pick up Redshirts months before it's due in Australia and from a quick look most books are cheaper when setting my Kindle to US.
I'm on a different computer now, trying to buy an ebook. My Amazon account is set to say I'm in the US but it won't believe me. Does it detect IPs? *sad*The message says "please contact us or change your country to complete your purchase.
You attempted to purchase an item while in a different country than listed on your Amazon account."
Make sure your Kindle setting is set to US not your Amazon account. There's two different settings for location.
Melinda wrote: "My Kindle setting is set to US, but I still can't buy anything."You have to set your Amazon account on the website, not your Kindle...
terpkristin wrote: "Melinda wrote: "My Kindle setting is set to US, but I still can't buy anything."You have to set your Amazon account on the website, not your Kindle..."
Sorry, should be more precise. I've logged on to Amazon, to my Kindle settings on the site, told it I'm in America, and it still won't work.
*sigh* I feel like a techno-incompetent. It worked once but I can't get it to work again.

I ran into a thread that explained how to go about it, but I am going to borrow Aloha's post (without permission as of yet) to explain how to go about purchasing Tigana (or other ebooks not available in the US)
Aloha wrote: "For the Kindle version, you can get it in the USA. To do this, you must transfer your Kindle account to the UK.
Here is the process:
Go to Amazon.com
Click “Your Account” in the top right corner
Log in using your email and password
Click “Manage My Kindle”, near the bottom of the page under “Let Us Help You”
Click “Country Settings” from the menu on the left
Click “Change” under actions.
Fill out the form.
I just put in “1″ under all the required fields, put in the UK under the country, and put in “N5 1BU” for the postal code (this is the code for Emirates Stadium, which I figured was fitting, considering that Wingrove follows Arsenal).
It all worked just fine."
Hope this helps! (And Thanks Aloha!) :-)
[EDIT]: Also, there are many of us who have used this method here.
[EDIT]: There seems to be some concern if you have subscriptions on your Kindle. As with everything else on the internet, Your Mileage May Vary, so be sure to check with Amazon if you have any concerns!
[EDIT]: For those of you wondering if Tigana may be worth the trouble, Amazon has a huge sample of the book (which seems to be missing a few pages) here.
