Let's discuss!
I get off work at 6, so you people need to make sure you have a good and long conversation that's still going when I get home! LOL
I would love to join, but I should be cleaning up after a birthday party. But maybe I'll be able to get away for a few moments. But YAY. I think this is a super dooper idea! Who doesn't love to chat...about books...we all seem to like?

Okay, not to change things...but since it kind of looks like people could make it later - can we just move the time to say 8 pm EST (that would be 5 PST)...or make it two times? Just wondering.
I should clarify that it was after 7PST for me. Actually, I just remembered I have a party to attend shortly thereafter...BUT I can do it most of Sunday, if we are still thinking about having an alternative chat.
Unfortunately, my schedule has changed and I can't make it either night ;( Please post some of the exchanges that take place so that those of us who missed it can still chime in. Have a great time!
It's going to be here in this thread right? I'm at work but it's pretty slow so I can probably still participate.
No, I don't think anyone showed up! At least, I don't think it was at a different place. Maybe we are doing it with the times Meghan posted? Meghan, if you read this and there is a chat going on, text me!
I'm confused too! But if anyone is still one, Sarah, I wanted to respond to an earlier post on whether the two Henrys caught in a sex act was disturbing. I thought it was more funny than anything. And seems about right for a teenage, horny boy. After all, Henry as a 28 year-old admits to being nearly a sex fiend. I thought the author was brave to go there and showed restraint. It could have easily been full of weird three ways.
That's why I thought it would be a good question for guys... would they if they could? Brian? Want to weigh in? LOL.
It's funny this comes up, because a male friend was telling me once how as a teenage boy he tried to give himself a b.j. totally nonchalant. And that reminded me of Clerks, where they attend the funeral of a classmate who dies breaking his neck performing said task. Anyhow, because of that brief passage, I sort of was nervous two Henrys would bed Clare at her wedding! That would have been creepy!
That would have been worse than younger Henry coming in and impregnating Clare while older Henry was asleep next to them. That was weird. Can you imagine how surreal that would be?
I'm going to cheat a little and repost what I posted this morning in the TTTW- spoiler's discussion. I wasn't sure if that thread would be picked up again soon.FAVORITE PASSAGES: the Baby Punks at the party -
I loved how gracious Henry was with those kids. It could be so easy for someone in a similar situation to point out the inconsistency of their aesthetic and musical knowledge or lack thereof. And I loved that the girl who didn't know what Lydia Lunch should look like really just likes Prince.
Once I reached the realization that 15 year-old Mark was responsible for 43 year-old Henry's death, I thought how chilling it was when I re-read Henry meeting Clare's family. If Mark recognized him, he certainly didn't lead on openly.
Related to Clare's family, I love Henry's interaction with the family, especially Nell. But find it odd that once Clare married, she never interacted with her life long best friends who had strong suspicions about their relationship.
His meeting her family also signaled a shift in Henry's issues about Christmas and nearly killing himself because of his despair. Having Clare in Henry's life allows him to fill in the void of losing his mother so violently.
I loved reading about Henry's 43rd birthday and the bootleg of his mom's concert and Nell making their dinner.
Gomez & Charisse drove me nuts. Gomez was unlikable to me because he pined for Clare and still married Charisse. Worse is, I don't get the impression that Clare ever lead him on and absolutely regretted sleeping with him both times. While I'm sympathetic to Charisse's character for being cheated on and under appreciated, her martyrdom is hugely her choice. Artistic, exotically beautiful and described as likable and sexy, why in the hell would such a woman compete for her husband with her best friend unless she was a masochist?
Alba was an amazing character and loved the scene where she visits her younger self and runs to Henry, who whispers in her ear to console her for her loss of him and gently instructs her not to tell the present family of their tragedy to come.
Younger Henry impregnating Clare didn't really alarm me. I was pretty much relieved that Henry, a less knowing Henry, would go on to carry out sealing the deal. In a way, it honored both of their wishes: Clare wanted her and Henry to make love so they could get pregnant despite years of heartbreak and the present Henry didn't have to be burden with the anxiety of knowing that his genetics were slowly killing Clare. Kind of poetic actually.
It was, but I would have preferred it to happen when older Henry was away. Having him asleep next to them is just weird!
Hey gang, I'm really sorry this didn't work out. The reason I had posted early was because I was out of town all weekend, but had said this time so wanted to be sure it happened anyway.
When's a good time for everyone? I'm ready to chat!!!

Sorry to confuse anyone. My earlier post was a question not a fact. And sorry I missed it! My party ran until 8:30 (about 3 hours over what I was expecting). But goods times were had by all (and diabetic comas induced). I have leftover ice cream cake for anyone who wants any! hehBut evenings are better for me too. Just to keep in mind--6:00 pm is dinner time around my parts, even on the weekends. So anything later, would be preferrable.
Wednesday evenings are good for me! Actually any night EXCEPT Mondays are good for me! Nothing too late though! Gotta get up early, not that I am not on late, but I sure can't schedule late things, then no way I will get to sleep at a decent hour!
I'm up for Wednesday night. How about 6pm PST? That seems to fit everyone's wishes voiced. I can do earlier or later, so let me know!

Blanca - nice Clerks reference! The book definitely had some imaginative sexual situations. Gives a whole other dimension to masturbation. Sorry I missed the thread on Saturday - went to a Christmas party.
Okay, just so I have it straightWednesday, December 6 at:
9:00 pm EST
8:00 pm CST
7:00 pm MST
6:00 pm PST
Oh and if I have it right, Sarah or Michele text me to remind to get on around the time. I'll probably forget with my addled brain!
Thank you for the breakdown Meghan, I didn't want to admit to not being sure, I was going to look it up online later! :)
No problem. If I was in China it would be a 15 hour difference (actually a 16 hour one now with Daylight Savings) so I'm getting pretty good at figuring this stuff out!
OK! I'm here! Are we chatting?Wow. Here I am, talking to myself. I guess I am the only one with no life. I feel pathetic. Actually, I do have a life, and a house to decorate, and a research paper to write, and I also have to read Rebecca by Sunday and I'm on chapeter 8. But I'm here. Talking to myself. And also, slightly tipsy. Whoo! Go me!
So I just checked my friends list, and none of my friends from this group are currently online. So you know what, you guys? This live discussion thing? We totally suck at it. lol
Okay, gang, I TOTALLY lost track of time... But I'm here if anyone is interested in a live chat.
Sarah, you are making me want to go read Rebecca again. It's such a dang good book! I've been craving it lately since you've been mentioning it.
It's time for Meghan's daughter to go to bed, so she's probably not going to make it. When I called, I could hear her crying in the background.

There will be at least one other during the week, as well, to try to get more people involved.
