Phil | 11837 comments A friend of mine is one of the best around at creating dragons.

Check out her work on the "gallery" link at her website, http://www.rockfeatherscissors.com.

message 102: by [deleted user] (new)

She's awesome! Tell her I love it. I forwarded it to the Mister. He's not so nuts about dragons as I am, but he loves wolves. :)

message 103: by Susan (new)

Susan | 6406 comments I like that dragon, Melia!

Phwinnie, your friend's work is beautiful.

message 104: by Martini (new)

Martini (shakenorstirred) | 195 comments Oh, I've got a picture of Falcor and me!
It was taken a loooong time ago when we visited the Bavaria Film Studios.

message 105: by Susan (new)

Susan | 6406 comments Jealous!

message 106: by Martini (new)

Martini (shakenorstirred) | 195 comments More? :-D
It was also possible to sit on his back and meanwhile watch a video of yourself riding him through the clouds.

message 107: by Susan (new)

Susan | 6406 comments Gah!

Why didn't I ever get to do that?!

If you also got a book with double ouroboros on it that would just be the end for me.

message 108: by Martini (new)

Martini (shakenorstirred) | 195 comments Ha, I should have asked for one!
But no, I didn't. So I'm only half a Bastian Balthazar Bux, I guess.

message 109: by Susan (new)

Susan | 6406 comments ::sigh::

message 110: by Martini (new)

Martini (shakenorstirred) | 195 comments That was a sigh of relief, huh? Not a sympathetic sigh for me not getting the book, right?

I think you haven't seen the ficus for quite too long, Susan.

message 111: by [deleted user] (new)

*Stashes snacks and a sketch pad behind the ficus incase Suz has to do a stretch*

message 112: by Susan (new)

Susan | 6406 comments Wrong on both counts, Martini. It was a sympathetic sigh for myself.

But seeing that Melia has set up the Ficus perfectly for me, I will happily hang out there.

::winks at Melia::

message 113: by [deleted user] (new)

*gives the thumbs up and wanders to the shower*

message 114: by Martini (new)

Martini (shakenorstirred) | 195 comments Well, for being so mistaken about your sigh I think I deserve to go behind the ficus, too.

Ice cream? :-)

message 115: by Susan (new)

Susan | 6406 comments Yes, please. :)

::scooches over and dusts away eraser debris::

message 116: by Martini (new)

Martini (shakenorstirred) | 195 comments Hey, it's quite cozy here, I didn't expect that!

*passes over large bowl of ice cream*
*offers sugar and chocolate sprinkles*

What did you draw, respectively erase?

message 117: by Phil (new)

Phil | 11837 comments That beer in the fridge is for Larry & Jim. You guys can have the iced tea.

message 118: by Martini (new)

Martini (shakenorstirred) | 195 comments Iced tea is nice, thanks Phil, but why do we girls only get a nonalcoholic drink? We will not go on the rampage after a beer or wine.

message 119: by Phil (new)

Phil | 11837 comments There are always those island style drinks at the bar. It's just that Larry & Jim spend so much time back there we try to keep the brews stocked up for them.

message 120: by Martini (new)

Martini (shakenorstirred) | 195 comments Ooh, a bar? Shiny!
Okay, beer for the guys, Pina Colada for me.

(I begin to understand why they spend so much time here.)

message 121: by Susan (new)

Susan | 6406 comments Hmph.

I brought my own sixer and restocked the chilled glasses.

Martini, it was a few different sketches of a fox. I don't like how the eyes keep turning out.

message 122: by Martini (new)

Martini (shakenorstirred) | 195 comments I like foxes. Friends of mine once raised an orphaned fox baby, she was so cute! She followed them around like a dog (I know this isn't the appropriate way of living for foxes, but otherwise she would have starved) and lived with them for about four years.
Do you draw living foxes, or from your imagination, Susan?

Like this...

... or like this?

message 124: by Susan (new)

Susan | 6406 comments Martini, it all depends on my mood and who it is for. My husband requested a fox so I am doing a realistic one for his birthday card.

I had already completed a frog for him, secretly, when he requested. Little turd.

I like that your friends helped a fox out. They are beautiful creatures.

Phil | 11837 comments Susan wrote: "MI like that your friends helped a fox out. They are beautiful creatures."

For sure! And foxes are cute, too.

message 126: by Martini (new)

Martini (shakenorstirred) | 195 comments Susan, is it possible to see any of your sketches online? You've really made me curious. :-)
Couldn't you have changed the frog you already had to a frog munching a fox, with only its tail hanging out of the frog's mouth? Would've saved you some time, and your husband would still be getting a picture with a fox in it. ;-D

Phil, so you got to know them, too? ;-)

message 127: by Susan (new)

Susan | 6406 comments Perhaps. We shall see.

The frog was stylized like a vintage frog playing a banjo and was finished. All watercolored up and junk. No room for a fox or a box. I will do one of a fox all special-like for him since he is my love. He usually gets two cards from me, anyways.

Martini (shakenorstirred) | 195 comments Martini wrote: "Friends of mine once raised an orphaned fox baby, she was so cute! ..."

Yesterday, said friends and me were doing some PR for our rescue center for injured and orphaned birds of prey, when we got a call from somebody who asked us where we were, because he had two animals that needed help. We expected him to bring us some fledglings, but it was two orphaned fox pups he had found; their mother was run over by a car close to the den. They are about six or seven weeks old.

Here they are:

Just a handful - and my hands are not that big:

message 129: by evie (new)

evie (ecie) | 4437 comments Poor little ones. Can you help them?

message 130: by Martini (new)

Martini (shakenorstirred) | 195 comments We'll try our best. At the moment, they are fed lactose free milk (because some of them can't digest lactose, just like humans) from small baby bottles, every three to four hours, but they are very weak.
This evening a vet will be checking them to see if they have parasites or diseases, to find out how their general condition is, and if they've got a chance to survive.

message 131: by Susan (new)

Susan | 6406 comments Oh my goodness! They are so sweet. Poor little babies!

Sleeping in your hand! So cute. I hope they survive.

message 133: by evie (new)

evie (ecie) | 4437 comments Martini, please keep us posted if you can.

message 134: by Martini (new)

Martini (shakenorstirred) | 195 comments We took the pups to the vet yesterday evening and they will have to stay there for at least five days. The vet said that they were having huge parasite infestations (tapeworm and others) which need to be treated, and that this (among others) led to the dehydration and weakness of the pups.
They'll get a deworming and continuous infusions, and we hope that this will improve their general condition.

Now there's one thing we have to consider: If the pups recover and we take care of them, they will get used to us and humans in general, and they'll never be able to live in their natural habitat again. The only way to avoid this is to only feed and clean them, without any further contact.
To me it would be very hard not to play with them and cuddle them, and my friends are not confident that they'll manage to do so as well. They then would have to keep the foxes just like pets, like the little one they once had. That is not a problem right now, because at the moment we've only got six birds of prey nursing cases, but considering that this number will increase to about twenty or twenty-five until summer, the additional attention the foxes will need might be too much.
We could give the pups to an animal shelter where they would be raised in a way that they can be released into the wild once they are fully grown.

This is a difficult decision.

evie (ecie) | 4437 comments Hopefully they will survive.

message 136: by Martini (new)

Martini (shakenorstirred) | 195 comments The vet has informed us that one of the pups has died last night.
*sigh*

message 137: by evie (new)

evie (ecie) | 4437 comments Oh no. That is sad . I hope the other one will make it.

Aliyah | 369 comments Dumb question: what's the difference between being a mod for a GR official group and being a GR librarian?

message 144: by Aliyah (new)

Aliyah | 369 comments Another one: is being a mod a difficult task?

janine | 7709 comments Aliyah wrote: "Dumb question: what's the difference between being a mod for a GR official group and being a GR librarian?"

A mod is in charge of a GR group, a librarian can edit books.

message 146: by Kevin (new)

Kevin (ksprink) | 11469 comments a difficult task? yes, there is a test and a physical obstacle course that i think only sally and i passed successfully. beyond that there are meetings, pop quizzes and occasionally training that is grueling.

message 147: by janine (new)

janine | 7709 comments Aliyah wrote: "Another one: is being a mod a difficult task?"

That all depends on the group and your own attitude. Sock puppets and trolls = difficult.

You wouldn't have passed either if Sally hadn't pulled you over the wall.

message 149: by [deleted user] (new)

And Sally wrote the exam....

message 150: by janine (new)

janine | 7709 comments There's probably something in old dead threads explaining some of the reasoning.
