I remember reading this book sometime after 2005. It was about a girl who lived in the forest and was called something, though I can't remember the name. Supposedly, she's supposed to be able to transform into mist, a panther, or something else but she has some sort of amnesia and can't remember how to. A boy rides into her forst one day on his horse and says he's going to be the future king and wants her to guard him. I'm not sure but I think the whatever she is, has been enlisted to guard the ruler of the castle near her forest for years or something. I'm also not sure, but I think he wants her to make an oath to protect him shortly after meeting her. She later find out that he's not the real future king, and that his or her uncle or someone is. After learning this, she betrays the guy she swore to protect before, comes back to him (probably because she realized her love for him or something), and then finds out who she was. Prior to her amnesia, she was a young girl trapped in a (flooding?) cellar/basement of the castle with a small boy and to save them, the real (name of what she's called) turned to mist and merged with the small girl which resulted in who she is now. Thank you for taking the time to read this even if you don't know the name of it.

The name just escapes me--I'll let you know if I remember!
