Rod Horncastle David comment: : Purgatory
" They just carried it over from the Jews, who wrote about it in the old testament. "

The Jews did AND BELIEVED a lot of things that were not meant to be embraced. Jesus and Paul sorted all that crap out.

Rod Horncastle David comment:
"Xdjy - obviously you and Rod are one."

This is the funniest thing I have come across all year. Xdyj may also agree - He might not though. BAhahahahahahahahaha!!!

Xdyj David wrote: "Xdjy - obviously you and Rod are one. I will either speak to you under this name or that name, but not both. How did I know? Your grievous lack of historical understanding instantly gave you away....."

Idk, in the preface of Descartes' first meditation, he said he wrote it in order to demonstrate by reason the correct Christian doctrines on God & soul to unbelievers who reject these doctrines on the ground of reason. I'm not sure if this counts as "defend"? If not then I have the excuse that English is not my first language.

Anyway, I know little about church history or the life of Rene Descartes beyond his books, have no intention of teaching anyone, & as an atheist I can't care less about the "debate" between Rod & you. Sorry if my questions offended you. I wasn't asking rhetoric questions as it's likely that that preface shouldn't be taken seriously.

Rod Horncastle David you have said basically NOTHING about Jesus. You have answered mostly NOTHING I have asked.

I'm trying to have a conversation and you just keep assuming you are a genius and everyone else is dumb because they don't play your game YOUR way. Apparently apologetics means NOTHING to you. Please show me how much you love Jesus. Again, you've shown nothing but your dependency on your cult. (which wasn't always a cult.)

David I read A LOT. Endless books on Bible history, Church history, history of theology, history of apologetics, Biographies.

Here's 2 very fun books you should read:
James R. White's : The Roman Catholic Controversy
Ron Rhodes : Reasoning From the Scriptures with Catholics.

David your Goodreads account shows that you haven't read much of anything. Yet you keep boasting that you are somehow educated?

Rod Horncastle AS for this post: WE ARE DONE.

Please join some other discussions - because you haven't - that shows us you are a one trick pony with very little worth discussing. Prove me wrong. I would love to chat with you about some non-Catholic issues. But I don't think you are capable of it. Again, please prove me wrong.

Lee Harmon (DubiousDisciple) | 2112 comments Am I part of Rod/Xydj too? We could be like a trinity.

Rod Horncastle :cD

message 208: by Rod (new)

Rod Horncastle Folks - that is exactly how you Shouldn't DO Christian Apologetics.

message 209: by Rod (new)

Rod Horncastle David, no matter what our personal discussion:
Please prioritize your relationship with Jesus Christ our Lord, Saviour, eternal King and Friend.
Like most Catholics - this was sadly lacking from all your discussions. This FACT should horrify you - it would me.

message 210: by Rod (new)

Rod Horncastle Theology and love is always defending the Saints of Christ from false teachings.

Only cults go around declaring their institution the TRUE church.
Those who love and embrace the Jesus of scripture - that is the Church. Bride of Christ.

message 211: by John (new)

John Hanscom | 276 comments "Like most Catholics ..." Rod, your white sheet is showing. Are you unable to write without denigration? Your points can be made without "dissing" others.

message 212: by Rod (new)

Rod Horncastle The truth hurts.
I recall Jesus and Paul AND Peter and Elijah and... You must make a stand for truth against all lies and confusion.

But please prove me wrong. I won't mind.

message 213: by John (new)

John Hanscom | 276 comments " ... You must make a stand for truth against all lies and confusion ..." Well of course. The problem is not defending truth [as you see it]; the problem is the offensive manner in which it is done. I am sure the KKK believe the organization is defending truth.

message 214: by Rod (new)

Rod Horncastle Prove me wrong - everyone will cheer. So far all I see is that some people are bad theologians and easily offended when challenged.

Don't forget to enjoy the ride - and keep it all about our Savior, Lord, eternal King, AND God: Jesus.

message 215: by Rod (new)

Rod Horncastle Yep, prove me wrong as you lovingly apply your Jesus Christ centered Christian Apologetics. I'll wait...

message 216: by Rod (new)

Rod Horncastle "When did you stop beating your wife???"

message 217: by Rod (new)

Rod Horncastle You never married? That explains a lot.

Answering bad faulty questions with a clarifying question is essential David. Sorry it frustrates you so - you should really learn to ask better questions.
Personally, I love questions, and I love being asked them - the weirder the better. I've got nothing to hide. (except that dead body that starting to smell in the backyard --- my daughter's first boyfriend, I think "Bucky" was his name.)

message 218: by Rod (last edited Mar 09, 2016 05:47PM) (new)

Rod Horncastle David we need to get off this thread - which was SUPPOSED to be about people's love of Christian apologetics.
You've failed every opportunity i've given you to share your Jesus with us. Apparently YOUR CHURCH says I am hellbound - and yet you do nothing about it ---- even though I keep asking. It appears "Apologetics" is not your gift, neither is MINISTRY. You are more like a banker demanding people only use your bank --- OR THEY GO TO HELL! Kind of funny actually.

But lets start a thread all about Catholicism. You can teach us and answer all our concerns.

message 219: by Rod (new)

Rod Horncastle Who says I'm a teacher? I'm more of a streetfighter and prophet. I go to church when God makes me (He even causes some NASCAR races to be rained out - just so i'm there). I do manage to lead the Worship music when I am there. (Which is very often).

David I made a Catholic Thread where you can teach us your VAST WISDOM about all things Catholic. And then we can ask questions or attempt to Reform and burn the Pope at the stake (Remember William Tyndale?)

Good thing you have an MA. You've got a lot of explaining to do. If you don't join in: then that means I'll be in charge... I'll take over the Vatican.

message 220: by Rod (new)

Rod Horncastle What makes you assume your religious education is ALL THAT?

I'll boast about my own shortly - but I'm still having too much fun with you and your Ego.

message 221: by Robert (new)

Robert Core | 1864 comments Rod - I run long distance for health and competition. Occasionally, I'll come across an outdoor "altar" with a statue affixed and a place to kneel in prayer, If it's Catholic, the statue is never Jesus, but some blessed virgin (usually Mary, but not always) or some obscure patron saint. If I need to offer prayer for someone or something, I first have to say "this isn't to you virgin or saint, you're an idol, this is to my Master Jesus."

message 222: by Rod (new)

Rod Horncastle "Smackdown!!!"

Sadly, that must be done Robert. Well spotted.

message 223: by UrumPen (new)

UrumPen | 48 comments I amuse at times, had my mother not wedded to my father, where would I have been. Still in the plans of God? Or could have born to someone else as exactly as am? if the god does have a plan for me to be alive now, then definitely he had a plan to bring me forth through my parents.
So to speak, God does have plan for every soul and God disburses/choose according to his will and the persons will.

message 224: by UrumPen (new)

UrumPen | 48 comments Friends,
I am going to give you some interesting bites. Just ponder before you pick up the biggest stone.
There are three Heavens.
The key of the second heaven is with John the Baptist.
The key of the third heaven is with Simon Peter.
Mary mother of Jesus is enshrined in the Kingdom of Heaven as the queen of Jerusalem.

message 225: by Rod (new)

Rod Horncastle Does God have a Good Nice plan for every person? The Bible says and shows NO!

message 226: by UrumPen (new)

UrumPen | 48 comments God does have a good nice plan for every person. But that comes with certain strings. It is a formula. If it goes that way then this comes this way.A kind of programming. Can anyone do as exactly as God wants. No way since Adam. So do not expect the good tidings as long as you are with a baggage. But you can overcome it to a certain level and leave the rest to your generation to reap.

message 227: by Rod (new)

Rod Horncastle And all the Martyrs? That wasn't very nice. AS well as all the aborted babies and those IN HELL? The worst is all the religious who rebel against God's Word and natural (as well as special) revelation.

The only formula - is that God reaches down and chooses some sinners to be a gift for His Son's eternal Kingdom.

message 228: by Robert (new)

Robert Dallmann (robert_dallmann) | 1605 comments This is my reason... an early calling I believe God gave me...

1 Timothy 4:16 - "Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them that hear thee."

Proper head knowledge is not my reason... the avoidance of deception is.
