Becky (beckyofthe19and9) I remember the crock-pot argument. LOL. There's something about that guy that just rubs me the wrong way.

Fiona, you're right of course... I just have a hard time imagining that any culture would raise up the standard of walking by someone in need. *sigh*

Kandice And I'll get to add that satisfying number. I honestly don't even know what it's about, other than brothers, but everyone raves...

message 953: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) Oh it's SOOOOOO good. You'll love it, I think. And if you don't, send it back and I'll send you another! :)

message 954: by Kandice (new)

Kandice I'm not sending it back, but I will owe you another, now, because of O & C, so I will need to peruse your lists....

message 955: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) trading books with y'all is fun. Maybe I should post a list of the better things I'm giving away to see if anyone wants to do trades...lol.

message 956: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) Awww... but it's one of my favorites!

Kandice - This is one of my All Time Favorite books. It is not a quick read in the easy-James Patterson sense, but it is intense and it will grab you early and hard. Let me know what you think !! Amy

message 958: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) Amy, you're right. It definitely opens with a shocker...

It's such a touching book. I know you'll love it Kandice!

haha, there are a tooon of old Victoria Holt and Phillipa Gregory books, do you read those? I read them in HS I think.

You Suck A Love Story
Mistress of the Art of Death
The Suspicions of Mr. Whicher Murder and the Undoing of a Great Victorian Detective
The Blind Assassin
The Omnivore's Dilemma
Two for the Dough
Hot Six
Object Lessons
A Conspiracy of Paper
Abundance A Novel of Marie Antoinette

...that is all I remember at the moment. None of it is that great...I haven't read some of it, just trying to make room on the shelves!

message 961: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) laaaaame list, I know. I'm not sorry to see any of it go :P

message 962: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) Ooh... I do want to read some of those... Mistress of the art of death, The Omnivores dilemma, You Suck, Abundance... Where's my cart??

message 963: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) lol!

Elizabeth (Alaska) I purchased 4 last week, and have had a couple loaned to me. I've had some incoming today, but they were gifts. All of these are for the Challenge. I'm sure I can be good for a couple of months now. (She said hopefully.)

message 965: by Kandice (new)

Kandice I want to read You Suck, but I detested the Blind Assasin.

I will send it back if you want, Becky, but after I'm through!!!!!

message 966: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) No no, Kandice, only if you hate it! If you like it, then you keep it!

message 967: by Lori (new)

Lori Walker Kandice wrote: "You know she is. Perhaps this thread should be retitled "I will only buy books when I have a good excuse reason"."

I totally agree. I think we should strive to be better, not perfect. As long as we cut down on how many books we buy, that should be OK...right?

I got my Amazon package with The Good Earth and Provence A-Z and I bought a larger copy of The Fouintainhead (which I believe we already decided was OK since I'm not adding to my net titles). I think I'm good for a while, although if I get another 40% off coupon or some Borders bucks...

message 968: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) Becky...I got your package today, I LOVE YOU!!!!

message 969: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) Awww! You're welcome... I'm glad you like it! Aren't I a sneaky girl though? I gave you three right back! MWAHAHAHA!! ;)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) Hehehe... I laughed maniacally as I wrapped it up... It was too perfect, since you had them on your TBR. ;)

message 973: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) Ooh! My boyfriend just texted me at work to tell me I got a big box of books! YAY! I'm so excited! (And what perfect timing!)
Allison, Thank You, thank you, thank you! :D

Kandice Just want to say I am LOVING True. I have my door closed at work today because I am contagious, and would normally not do this, but keep reading a page here and there. (since I probably wont get caught) Thank you tons!

Allison (inconceivably) *gasp* KANDICE!

message 994: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) Me too... I'm not even supposed to GR at work, but I can't help myself... and so here I am... Sneaking shifty eye looks over my shoulder every 2 seconds. And my desk is REALLY out in the open. Grrr!

message 995: by Allison (new)

ditto exactly! I have to switch off constantly

message 996: by Kandice (new)

Kandice Well, really, no one cares what we do on the computer, because we can have multiple screens up, but actually reading abook at my desk feels sinful! I delegated a lot, so am really just here so I am not out sick!!!

I have a HUGE question, so I am going to message you Becky. Don't want to spoil anything...

message 997: by Andrew (new)

Andrew (dad-man) | 155 comments God! I hate only being able to get on, like, once a month. THIS SUCKS!

But besides that...

THIS IS DAY 59

Two months tomorrow. May just get to reward myself soon. =-)

Hope everyone is doing great with their book bans.

message 998: by Kandice (new)

Kandice I hop you reward yourself with FOOD as opposed to books!!!!

Goos job Ich. We've missed you!!!

message 999: by Lori (new)

Lori Walker Well, today is Day 1 for me. I was crushed by the wagon. You can probably see my corpse lying in the dust.

I must say that it's been worth it. I've bought 7 books from Amazon recently. I'm not going to beat myself over the money because I have my summer job lined up.

message 1000: by Kim (new)

Kim (inkandberry) | 1 comments According to my to-read list I have 79 books that I bought and haven't read yet. So I can't buy any new ones. Some of those I bought in 2005. I have already stopped buying 3-4 books every week for almost a year now. It's been sort of easy since I am saving up for a car. But I have more books on my to buy lists than I have to read. So I will pledge.

"I promise to abstain from purchasing new books until my to-be-read pile is looking more respectable and I must read the books I already own!"

And that will be only when I have none left to read. Which should be some time next year...
