Allison (inconceivably) I haven't been to Starbucks since I stopped living in a dorm, maybe I should go look into this whole book thing...

message 902: by Emma (new)

Emma Blue (litlover) | 2389 comments Starbucks is FABULOUS.

message 903: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) yeah, I don't even like coffee :P I just like the creme based stuff and the hot chocolate...

Plus, I balk at the $$.

message 904: by Emma (new)

Emma Blue (litlover) | 2389 comments Allison, I'm like that too. I love the frappicinos (sp?), hot chocolate and treats. I go there quite often. At least once a week. I really enjoy the atmosphere there.

message 905: by Kandice (new)

Kandice I am addicted to Berry Chai tea ove rice right now! It's so, so good. I want one. NOW!!!!!

message 906: by Emma (new)

Emma Blue (litlover) | 2389 comments Berry Chai sounds strange to me.

I want a chai frapp.

message 907: by Kandice (new)

Kandice Not strange at all, just wonderful. It's really spicy.

I love the whole idea to send books to each other...but I can never part from my books...

message 910: by Jeane (new)

Jeane (icegini) | 4891 comments Okay, as this seems to be the random thread pages suddenly: why twice in one week(once team meeting and second birthday) we get candy and cookies, cake....when my stomach is still not okay and I cna practically eat nothing.....i had again bread and jam for lunch.....twice in a week and nothing for me...

message 911: by JSou (new)

JSou Ok, I am now officially posting regarding my self-imposed book buying ban. I just scored big at our town's book fair this weekend, and I swore that would be my last splurge until I could catch up on the ones I already own. (over 300, now)

*cringes with shame*

Already today though, it was all I could do not to walk through the thrift store today on my lunch hour. They surprisingly have a decent selection of books, that are SO cheap. I fought the urge though, but realized this is going to be tougher than I thought. HELP!!! :)

message 912: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) Thrift stores are my weakness too Jessica, so I feel your pain. There are several near my house too, so it's torturous to pass by and not go in!

message 913: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) well, I just discovered you can sell your books at www.betterworldbooks.com.

This is not good. I should block that site.

message 914: by Kandice (new)

Kandice Allison! You should NOT have typed that here!!! Shame, shame...
One of my favorite Saturday treats is to walk to the thrift store down the street. The books are soooo cheap. Very hard to resist, and the stock is constantly changing.

message 915: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) I've seen that site... They don't take every book and they don't pay well either. :(

message 916: by Kandice (new)

Kandice ALLISON!!!!!!!!!!! Look at Becky's POST!!!!! (we need to discourage her;)

message 917: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) What? That's me getting RID of books... trying to SELL them....

...to buy more books.

message 918: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) Oh! And I switched Oryx and Crake back into my Spring Challenge reading list, Kandice (for the Recycling task since I will be giving it to you when I'm done) so I will be reading that next, after I finally finish Roots, which WILL be tonight! So it should be on it's way to you in a couple days. :)

... Didja like that change of subject?

message 919: by Kandice (new)

Kandice Ha ha! It's almost a full time job discouraging and encouraging you girls! Good thing Miss Sassy Pants is otherwise engaged today, or I may not have the energy:) I am so excited!!!!! I have wanted to read that forever.

Do you love Roots? The beginning is actually my favorite. Up until Kizzie leaves. (gets sent...)

message 920: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) Becky! RESIST THE THRIFT STORE!

Because...if you don't, that would mean I wouldn't want you to fail alone and I'd have to go too...

lol!

message 921: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) I miss Fiona :(

lol...I don't even remember the last day I didn't talk to all you guys :P

message 922: by Kandice (new)

Kandice I miss her too:( Where is she? I'm worried. How silly is that?

message 923: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) *listens to the crickets* It so quiet without her!

message 924: by Becky (last edited Apr 01, 2009 04:11PM) (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) I am resisting the thrift stores Allison... I look longingly at them as I go by, but I avoid entering because I know the temptation is too great. It's sad.

Kandice, I am loving Roots, although I am surprised at the way Kunta's story ended! I was like, "Wait, WHAT??" I was really disappointed that that was it.

I really am loving it though... it's really making me want to know more about my own heritage. I'm going to visit my family in September for my dad's birthday, so I might pursue that.

119 pages left to go.

(Edit: OK this post just made me think of something to add to my review when I write it.)

message 925: by Kandice (new)

Kandice I know what you mean! I hated that. For almost 100 pages I kept thinking we would get back to him.

message 926: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) I know Kandice, me too! I'm sitting here like "oh man she must be sick...or something must have happened..."

I even checked her twitter to make sure she didn't update there (negative)!

message 927: by Kandice (new)

Kandice Well she's okay, because I am wishing and hoping hard enough to make it so, but, still...

message 928: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) I'm sure she's fine... Maybe she is having computer problems again... poor girl.

message 929: by JSou (new)

JSou Yay! I've made it through Day 2!! I've realized going through and organizing my books really helps! It really puts in perspective how many of them I actually have to read. (It's a little overwhelming actually.)

The good thing is, I'd even forgotten some of the great books I have just waiting to be read!

message 930: by Alisha Marie (new)

Alisha Marie (endlesswonderofreading) | 715 comments I think that I need to finally participate in this book-ban. When I first posted in this thread, I had 60 books that I had unread. Now, I'm up to like 130 books. So, I'm going to try to abstain from book buying. No more thrift stores and definitely no more Barnes & Noble until my own TBR pile goes down to like 20. The library is okay for challenges and new books in series only. Paperbackswap is okay as long as I'm not actually buying credits (I did this once), but actually earning them.
So, this is day one.

message 931: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) Welcome back Fi... We did miss you!

Good luck Alisha!

Elizabeth (Alaska) cockshoot?

Yeah, I knew what you meant, but what a wonderful word that we don't use here (do we?) and so descriptive!

Jeane (icegini) | 4891 comments Kandice wrote: "I miss her too:( Where is she? I'm worried. How silly is that?"

when any of you isn't around I feel like all calling you and tell to come on.....

message 934: by Stacey (new)

Stacey (schaubchick) | 138 comments I agree whole-heartedly, Fiona. My husband picks on me for buying a new book almost every week/2 weeks (yet he buys a new dvd every Tuesday without fail!). I have a rather large list of to-be-read books. My problem is that I hear/read about a new one that I don't have or the library has too many people wanting that book, so I go buy it. Then, either I get sidetracked with life or don't feel like reading that particular book right then. I just bought two new books yesterday that I don't/won't have time to read for a while! With that said...

"I promise to abstain from purchasing new books until my to-be-read pile is looking more respectable and I must read the books I already own!"

message 935: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) I want to place an order on Amazon so bad it isn't even funny.

message 936: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) Fiona wrote: "If it's for that otori book I will advise caution but I will not stop you from doing what is inevitable. :)"

LOL. Thanks a lot Fiona!! I posted on here hoping for support :P

message 937: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) Allison... Remember, you are being shipped a mystery book... :) Let that be your splurge!

message 938: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) No... I don't even know what that is!

message 939: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) OK... I added it. :)

message 940: by Kandice (new)

Kandice Becky is the sweet angel of gift books!!!! What would we do without you? (on a side note, I am refraining, but I agree with your posts in Rant. 100%)

message 941: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) yay Becky :) I'm so excited to see what it will beeee!

You will love Nightingale I bet, its fantastic.

I can get the 4th Otori and prequel for like...$15. hmmmm.

message 942: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) no, the $15 included postage :P

message 943: by Kandice (new)

Kandice You know she is. Perhaps this thread should be retitled "I will only buy books when I have a good excuse reason".

message 944: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) Kandice wrote: "You know she is. Perhaps this thread should be retitled "I will only buy books when I have a good excuse reason"."

lol!!

message 945: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) Awww! You're welcome Kandice. I just love sharing my books. (And I'm glad you agree with me in Rant too... That guy is forever making excuses for -probably his own- bad behavior. Pfft.)

message 946: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) man...I don't know whats going on. Guess I'll go find it :P

message 947: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) I don't even really see culture as an excuse for that kind of thing. If you see someone struggling, you help. Just the same as you would want someone to help you if the tables were turned. But that's just me, and I'm not worldly.

(I'm just Becky, the angel of book-giving. ;) )

message 948: by Allison (new)

Allison (inconceivably) oh...found it. lol Becky..."prissy maiden"

message 949: by Kandice (new)

Kandice Becky the Book Angel. You should put that in the little italcs by your name. It suits you perfectly. I had an "argument" with Ed about a crock pot once...

I am starting Becky's book tommorrow. I Know This Much Is True It's fairly long, but I am hoping it's a quick read. It will feel good to add so many pages to my list:)

Elizabeth (Alaska) Kandice, that will be the quickest 900 pages you've ever read.
