Sharon Michael | 92 comments For my mystery-related challenge for 2014 I am going to try to read more of the 'old classics'. Started with The Moonstone by Wilkie Collins which I'm finding considerably more 'Victorian' than I even expected, but interesting.

Will progress to Sherlock Holmes, Agatha Christie, Edgar Allen Poe and work forward from there.

Sandy | 14 comments My resolution is to read 3 books a month and to find new authors.

message 153: by Emilia (new)

Emilia (bookbug2012) | 20 comments 100 books. last year I did not succeed (ended up with 83).

message 154: by Susan (new)

Susan (sumagoo) | 131 comments After my dad passed away I just could not get into reading but back on track.
I am making my goals simple this year, 20 books for the year and reading different types of books. Doing well so far, have five down.

May you all enjoy your reading!

Betty (bettylouise54) | 582 comments Finding and reading new authors to me. Write reviews on many of the books I read and read some of my favourites and write a review

Susan, I'm going through the same thing. I was an avid reader, my mom was a librarian. The last three years of her illness I quit my job to take care of her. My reading dropped, but since she passed I have not been able to read for pleasure. I have a TBR pile growing, but can't pick up a book without stopping after about two chapters :(

message 157: by Betty (new)

Betty (bettylouise54) | 582 comments I have similar experience. I had serious illness and in a hospital. I took several books to read. I was reading a author, one my favourites at the time. I was told latter that I almost died. I have not been able to read anything by this author since as I remember how sick I was.

message 158: by Barbara (new)

Barbara Schlichting (barbschlichting) | 37 comments I keep on reading. I see an author, and think I want to read this person's books..but I end up reading other authors.

message 159: by Sandra (new)

Sandra Hernandez (saniy95231) | 81 comments I have lists of books I want to read, and along the way if I find a new book I end up reading that as well. So currently I'm like in the process or am reading like at least 5 different books/series.

message 160: by Sharon (new)

Sharon Michael | 92 comments I like cozy mysteries but am very 'narrow' in those likes so most cozies do not appeal much to me. Too many are too implausible/silly for me to manage and I suppose my preferences are perhaps more 'cozy' with a touch of light traditional mystery.

Because I have so few cozy series I like well enough to actually follow, my cozy mystery resolution for this year was to find a new to me series that I do like well enough to follow ... and it's already done!

Started with Crazy VA and am now starting the 4th (and last) of the published books in the series. I do hope this author writes fast!

message 161: by Betty (new)

Betty (bettylouise54) | 582 comments A new one I just love is CATS WHO SEARCH THE WEB by Karen Anne Golden. It is an ebook,I found on Amazon. If you like cats you probably will like. If not, forget as the cats are the story. There is a mystery but not much

Thank you by the info, Betty. I just got it yesterday and it's in my ereader. I love cats, so I think I'm going to like it.

message 163: by Laurie (new)

Laurie | 48 comments My goal is to read more of the books I actually own. My books are starting to crowd me out of my apartment, lol.

LOL - I hear you! I have stacks everywhere, drives my husband crazy!

message 165: by Gisela (new)

Gisela Hafezparast | 13 comments I'll try to get back into classics starting with re-reading "Rebecca". Would like to read more pre-Victorian classics.

Also must start reading books which have been for years on my Amazon wishlist/basket and haven't seen the day because other/newer/new to me books get there first.

Same here. Need to re-read books, which either justifies hanging on to them or giving in and putting them in the charity sack.

A good place to start! If you're interested in reading more classics, you might be interested in the Classics for Beginners group here at GR. This month's group read is Catch-22 (which I'm not reading as I don't have the book) and the March book is Peter Pan.

Thanks I'll have a look.

Emilia (bookbug2012) | 20 comments 100 books. last year did not succeed, maybe this year? :D

message 170: by Susan (new)

Susan (sumagoo) | 131 comments Michelle and Betty, Thank you! I really thought I was the only one who felt like that after my dad passed and when I got sick. I felt sad that I just could not read like I had. For me it was hard because it was my dad who taught me my love for reading. I missed talking to him about the books I read. It has been four years but this year has been better so far.
Hope you find that feeling again soon!

message 171: by Elaine (new)

Elaine (1lakelover) | 1 comments Just had some surgery and now am unable to read more than a few pages before putting the book down. Maybe anesthesia has that effect on psychic so difficult to concentrate. Reading Slightly Bad Girls of the bible.

Must be something. I had a hip replacement 3 years ago and couldn't concentrate on a book for weeks.

message 173: by Betty (new)

Betty (bettylouise54) | 582 comments It helps,to know others have the same problem about reading when you experience a major health problem.

message 174: by Maria (new)

Maria Zavzyata | 7 comments I've made a list of books I intend to read this year and I've even joined the challenge. This Year it will be cozies, some thrillers by Robin Cook and some historical novels by Philippa Gregory. Hopefully I'll manage

Hi, if you think of Philippa Gregory, start with "The other Boleyn Girl" and then read Hilary Mantel "Wolf Hall" followed by "Bringing up the Bodies". Really informative and refreshingly un-hollywood ways of viewing the Tudors as real people.

message 176: by Ice (new)

Ice Skater209 (ice_skater209) | 22 comments i'm late but resolution is to read as many books as possible

message 177: by [deleted user] (new)

I've read 42 of my 2014 Good Reads Challenge of 75 books!

message 178: by E.L. (new)

E.L. (elouisebates) My reading New Year's resolution was to read fewer books, and savor more. I am a fast reader, and I tend to zip through books so quickly that a month later I can hardly remember anything about them. I wanted to slow down, really enjoy the books I read, and remember them afterward. I've occasionally fallen back into bad habits of mindless fast reading, but overall I've done better this year, and hope to do even better next year.

message 179: by Jessica (new)

Jessica Lawhun (tissuepaperpet) My New Year's resolution ( Well, one of them anyway ) is to commit more time for reading. I have a three books that I am currently reading off and on along with a ton on my backlog. It's high time to play catch-up with all of those stories I was so curious to read when I bought them.

message 180: by Naomi (new)

Naomi (tribalcat) | 307 comments I read double my goal in 2014, but I'm going to hold the number down to 100 in 2015. There are a lot of changes coming up in my life this year (good ones!) so I won't have as much time to read. I've also changed which challenges to participate in this year. I'll be doing The Ultimate Reading Challenge, Seasonal Challenges, and Around the World, and am planning on getting caught up in about 17 of my favorite cozy series :)

Happy New Year!

message 181: by Sabrina (new)

Sabrina The Book Lover | 388 comments I haven't got any specific books I want to read in mind for this year, but I do want to read as many cozies as possible and read at least 150 books. Oh, and try to finish as many challenges as possible too!

Jill Tool Gisela wrote: "I'll try to get back into classics starting with re-reading "Rebecca". Would like to read more pre-Victorian classics.

I love the book Rebecca! It's been about gosh I don't know maybe 15 years since I read it, my son was little when I read it, and I remember that book like I read it yesterday.

Carole at From My Carolina Home I'd just like to whittle down the >300 books currently on my TBR pile. But I'd also like to do at least one book review a month for Goodreads and my blog.

message 184: by Dhfan4life (new)

Dhfan4life | 114 comments Well I made a general resolution to be more positive this year. But I guess I can add to that by saying book wise, I am FINALLY going to finish up some series I'm reading, FINALLY read some of these long awaited ebooks I've been collecting, and read and chuck freebies as I go. Cause I have faaaaaaaaaaaaar too many cluttering up my files and they need to be gone since 3 years ago, haha.

message 185: by Erin L (new)

Erin L (wellreadmoose) | 505 comments I need to start finishing some of my series. I set a goal of 100 books this year. I had a goal of 175 last year and I struggled to hit 136 and I was starting to just hate reading.

I've refocused on some of my favorite authors and series right now and that's helping rekindle my love of reading.

message 186: by Teresa (new)

Teresa Scott (goodreadscomknitknat) | 131 comments I want to start a new series and actually complete the series by the end of the year. I am not looking for a series with over 15 books. I also want to catch up on at three of the series that I am currently reading.

message 187: by Merrill (new)

Merrill | 34 comments my new year's resolutions is to read 40 books.

message 188: by Melissa (new)

Melissa (melissasd) This year I'm going to try to read 80 books and hopefully finish some series.

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) Resolutions -

Read at least 150
Read a variety of genres for challenges
Re-read most of my Barbara Michaels collection
Read most of my superhero themed novel collection
Read most of the children and young ya that are sitting TBR on shelf

message 191: by Tina (new)

Tina You mean the challenge on #190?
Or a new one?

message 192: by Annamarie (new)

Annamarie (planewxgirl) | 71 comments New one! I have been reading 2-3 books at at time. Lol. Which sometimes is a bit much. But I have so many books I want to read!

message 193: by Julie Austin (new)

Julie Austin Edwards | 109 comments Annamarie, I do the same thing!

message 194: by Annamarie (new)

Annamarie (planewxgirl) | 71 comments Julie wrote: "Annamarie, I do the same thing!"

Hahahahaha I think when I read Lord of the Rings and Game of Thrones side by side I was over my limit! lol. But other than that I usually have a mystery, Christian, and a new series to start at once.

message 195: by Kellene (new)

Kellene | 167 comments Goal 1 for the year is to complete at least 1 of my 2 reading challenges. More reading and less time on the computer.

Goal 2 is to read more books that I already own before I buy new ones. The problem being that I find a new author and get my hands on as much as I can.

message 196: by Paula (new)

Paula Adams (goodreadscompadams57) | 44987 comments My Goal is to spend more time at the library. This coming year they are starting twice a month introducing new books to the patrons that sign up and talk about them and even give them away. Also Lisa Gardner is coming in February, I am already signed up. Will read a few of her books before her talk.

message 197: by Annamarie (new)

Annamarie (planewxgirl) | 71 comments We all need to support our libraries!

message 198: by Paula (new)

Paula Adams (goodreadscompadams57) | 44987 comments Yes we do. I usually go once a week but it's in and out. They have some amazing programs and I want to take advantage of them.

message 199: by Kait (new)

Kait Carson | 182 comments This year I want to read 50 books. And I agree, we need to support our libraries!

message 200: by Shaz (new)

Shaz (zabooksihaveread) | 26 comments I always like to support my local libraries. We visit every week to see what the library has on offer and being that it is the summer school holidays my son has signed up for several different library reading challenges to complete.

In 2016 I will challenge myself to read 100 books for the goodreads challenge and I have also signed up to participate in an online book club. That should introduce me to some new books and authors to read.
