ɐzzıɹʞ why??

message 54: by Sarah ∞ (new)

Sarah ∞ (stargalgirl) | 559 comments Why?!?! lol, they should make a spoof of harry potter called Wizards Rock or Wizards Suck, something like that.
THAT would be EPIC

message 55: by ɐzzıɹʞ (last edited Aug 08, 2010 06:59AM) (new)

ɐzzıɹʞ Hey, that's a great idea:D but Harry Potter don't deserve 'Wizards Suck'

Only twilight is VERY deserving and worthy AND important enough to have others make 'Vampires Suck'

message 56: by Sarah ∞ (new)

Sarah ∞ (stargalgirl) | 559 comments Wizards Rocks then lol
haha, so true

I bet that if you told some of the die hard Twilight fans that there are now the plot of the saga some years ago they would laugh in your face. Sparkling vampires and people that turn into werewolves without the need of a full moon is a disgrace to everything horror

message 63: by [deleted user] (new)

Do you want to know why everyone here is for Harry Potter? Because anyone stupid enough to like Twilight obviously hasn't bothered to read anything else. So thats why there are no twilight fans on here, they haven't HEARD of a site called goodREADS. Jkr is above all an AMAZING author who as some how managed to cram every theme there is into one series!

HP forever!

message 64: by ɐzzıɹʞ (new)

ɐzzıɹʞ oh yeah! I sooooo agree with you!

My friends in school loves twilight saga. Those are the only books they read. They didn't know any better. *sigh*

message 65: by Randi (new)

Randi (The Artist Formerly known as Guitar Chick) (guitarchick) I know right? Hardly any of my friends have read Harry Potter but almost all have read the Twilight Saga.

message 66: by [deleted user] (new)

Having read both series, I think that HP sets a better example of what kids can accomplish. It's a great good vs. evil tale. It's very well written and will become a classic long after Twilight fades into memory.

The only thing that Twilight taught me was that some vampires sparkle and how many times one can use "chagrin" and "dazzle/dazzled/dazzling" in a story.

message 67: by [deleted user] (new)

I think eventually Twilight will fade away into the background... Sort of like Miley Cyrus.

message 68: by [deleted user] (new)

Wow, I just realized I compared two things I dislike to make a good comment. MLIM. (My Life Is Magical)

message 69: by [deleted user] (new)

I read the Twilight books and i just couldnt get myself to like them :P Its funny because my Bestie loves them. But i LOVE Harry Potter i grew up reading them, i was ten when i read the first one :). I dont the Harry Potter Fandom will ever end, even after the movies are over.

I give Twilight maybe 1 yr after the last movie before it totally fades away

message 70: by Randi (new)

Randi (The Artist Formerly known as Guitar Chick) (guitarchick) I agreee with you Christina. And another part of Harry Potter lasting, is that all of the books have been out for at least three years now, and nothing has stopped. I'm in a wizard rock band and while most people think it's fading, I can garuntee you it's just moved to other places.

message 71: by Alexander (new)

Alexander Draganov (darthsparhawk) I like Twilight very much, it is elegant, well written book with cosy atmosphere and likable characters (except Jacob lol).
But Harry Potter is simply very special, rich, complex, with very vivid characters, epic plot and the ingenious little things that make British fantasy authors that special.
Anyway, a comparison with "Percy Jackson and the Olympians"is more adequate.

message 72: by ★ Jess (last edited Nov 14, 2010 12:20AM) (new)

★ Jess Darth, I beg to differ.
You say Twilight is well written. I say Not At All.
Meyer's writing is the major let down to Twilight. It is a good story, yes. But the writing is ATROCIOUS.
On every scale, Stephanie Meyer is a less-then-mediocre author.
There are so many cringe worthy, what-the-hell, stupid stupid lines in the book that almost made me want to stop reading.
Some of the character descriptions are stupid, awful scene descriptions and general terribleness. Also, some one acuratley said SMeyer raped the dictionary whilst writing this book. They must be correct.
Terrible writing being pointed out http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2L253V... , http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/...

"The characters are likable (except Jacob)"
Again, I beg to differ. jacob is one of the best characters. He is three dimensional, has flaws and serious personality.
Bella, on the other hand is a whiney, negative, dumb and gloomy main character. She is so one dimensional that its not funny. All she does is whine. complain, whinge and make stupid comments. Not to mention the fact that she takes feminism back about 100 years.
Anyway, if she is plain looking-why is every boy falling in love with her?
Edward,is an awful character. We dont need some part of his body described on every page, and the fact that he sneaks into her rooms whilst she sleeps is not romantic at all. Its creepy and stalkerish!

However, harry Potter beats Twilight in every way possible

message 73: by Alexander (new)

Alexander Draganov (darthsparhawk) My personal opinion is that every person has different taste and that's why there are arguments in the Internet, because people share their thoughts with each other and they may differ. This is one such example. You say that the writing of Mrs. Meyer is horrible, but personally I can't see why. I have to admit that I simply don't care about the opinion of the literature critics, although I think that Mrs. Meyer has a few awards. The opinion of other fans is simply that - an opinion, no more valid than the opinion of others. However, I think that if an author has managed to touch the heart of his or her readers, he or she has done a good job and I think that it is proven that Meyer has touched the hearts of many people.
About the characters, I am afraid that we again will have to agree to disagree. For me Jacob is the one who is whining and extremely unlikable. I find him to be manipulative and I think that the way he self-victimizes himself is quite unpleasant. On the contrary, I find Bella to be very charming and I am happy to see a heroine which happens to be a good nice girl and not a murdering ****. Also, I like Edward, who is a true gentleman and a very kind character. Yes, they are idealized, but I can see nothing wrong with that. For me it is sad and worrying when people find good people in fiction to be unbelievable.
About your remark against feminism, I am against the movement, so no sympathy here. Note that I am against sexism as well. I prefer people to have the right to chose what they want for themselves based on what is in their hearts, not based in ideology.
In the end however, I have to agree that "Harry Potter"is the better series, by a mile, actually. This, however, is not because "Twilight" is bad, but because "Harry Potter" is extraordinary.

message 74: by [deleted user] (new)

Whoa.... I love this debate!!!!!!

message 75: by [deleted user] (new)

Ok, HARRY POTTER PWND IN THAT!!! I really, really dislike Twilight, and thought that was a total slap in the face for them!

message 76: by Joe (last edited Jun 30, 2011 02:11AM) (new)

Joe | 57 comments The main things I don't like about Twilight is:

- Bella can't live without Edward. She sulks around and is continually depressed until she decides to nearly kill herself just to see him again in her adrenaline rushes! She is so desperate, and this gives false hope to girls that when a guy breaks up with them, he secretly still loves you and he'll come back if you wait long enough.

-Edward isn't a common guy. Yes, he's a vampire, but what guy turns down (you know what I mean ( I thought I might get banned from Goodreads for using the word?)) for marriage first? It can happen, but rarely, this is another sense of false hope for girls out there that Stephenie Meyer portrays.

-And yes, theres brings up the VERY awkward question of how Bella had her baby when Edward literally has next to no blood in his body which.. Well if you think about it, is impossible. I won't delve further into this out of fear of being banned from Goodreads. xD

Overall, I do think character development was better in Harry Potter. I do not criticize Stephenie Meyer as I think, this being her first few books, she still has time to grow and take on maybe a better writing style. The Harry Potter series opens up a new world to writing and I believe fan-fiction will carry the wizarding world on forever.

Kashmira (kaslo) | 12 comments i'm sorry but why are we having this discussion?..
there's no doubt that harry potter is the best..
sure twilight's good but it can never rise up to harry potter..EVER!!

message 78: by Mary (new)

Mary | 10 comments I only read the first question, but the debates were amazing. I never thought about half the things they said. What I think is that even though everyone has their own opinions, Harry Potter has a better argument for liking the books because you get to grow and learn more with the characters.

I'm not going to lie, I love twilight. It is a well written book series and is an amazing story. But I hate how it is full of romance and mainly meant for high school middle school age.

Harry Potter is written with a little bit of everything and anyone can read it. At any age.

I watched the movie when I was little (before I really got into reading) and fell in love with the magic.
My mom and I read the first book when I was about 9 and I fell in love with The characters.
I read the books in middle school and began to see everything else. I fell in love with that too.
I now can see the overall effect of all the books, the characters, the magic, the drama, the story itself, and I can see that Harry Potter is for anyone and everyone.

I mean sure, If you read the books when your little your not really going to understand the crush harry has with cho. and you might get grossed out with Ron and Lavendar, but you can appreciate the Magic.

What can you get from twilight?
A girl who tries to kill herself because her boyfriend left her. A girl who gets pregnant at 18. What kind of image is that?

What can you get from Harry Potter?
A boy who is willing to risk his life for his friends. Don't judge creatures by the way they look. Magic is real if you believe. Love is powerful. There are bad people in this world.

Harry Potter sends a message in the story.
Twilight is a story.
Harry Potter is for all ages.
Twilight is for about middle school and older.

Harry Potter all the way!

message 80: by Weirdology (new)

Weirdology I haven't read the whole thing. I might later. But I just wanted to point this out.

From question #1
Ms. Caroline Suh: "Even after his first near-death experience at Hogwarts, he still chooses to live under the limelight of being the savior of the school and his peers - why? Obviously because he likes the attention."

Did she even read the books? It's obvious that Harry tries to AVOID being the center of attention. And the savior of the school? I thought he's known for being savior of the wizarding world. Not a school. lol. But in a couple of the books, I guess you could see it that way too.

message 82: by Natalie (new)

Natalie | 219 comments Yeah! ... Why does Twilight and Harry Potter share so many cast members if it is so conteversial... how did this whole this Twilight vs. Harry Potter thing start in the first place...

message 85: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer | 39 comments The reasons I never got into Twilight are simple. I don't like romance novels, with very few exceptions (I never liked other people's relationship drama. I had to put up with my friends. Why did I want to read it in my free time?) and it was shoved in my face by a huge percentage of my middle school. (Most of my friends now quite dislike Twilight. It's a really nice change. I don't like anything shoved down my throat. These friends mostly agree on that score.)

The stories might be the best romance novels in the world for all I care. It just doesn't fit my (rather eccentric) taste.

I didn't even read Harry Potter until people stopped telling me too. Once I did, I loved it. I think it helped me through 6th grade, and I've loved it ever since.

I am the same! I have to look past all the romance books in the library totry to find one that's interesting!

message 88: by Beatrice (new)

Beatrice (beatricemasalunga) No competition at all.
because we all know HP will definitely win this.

they are just compared because of popularity and teen hype.

The same thing went for me, except I was bribed to read them. :) Now I <3 them!

message 90: by Julia (new)

Julia | 275 comments I don't really understand why is Twilight Saga compared with Harry Potter. Twilight is a paranormal romance, and Harry Potter is fantasy. Twilight can be compared with Shiver series, Sookie Stackhouse or Fallen. Harry Potter should be compared with Eragon, Percy Jackson...wilght and Harry Potter? Totally different genres!

I second to this and They were just compared because of Teen popularity. it's pretty unfair in both parties

message 93: by [deleted user] (new)

I don't even know why I'm commenting...pretty much everything that I think on the subject has been portrayed in some form here already.
in a nutshell: Harry Potter is genius, Twilight is crap. enough said.
LONG LIVE HARRY POTTER!!!!

message 94: by Aren (new)

Aren | 3 comments I loved both twilight and Harry Potter and I didn't see how both of them could have been compared. Harry Potter truly won completely but Twilight was very enjoyable. The most ridiculous line I read in the interview was "I personally enjoyed reading about Bella's character developing rather than Harry Potter because Harry is just dealing with an evil wizard lord coming to kill him. With Bella, you get to see how she really handles her life."

Yeah like defeating the evil Dark wizard who killed your parents and your best friends really pales in comparison to Bella and the love triangle.

But otherwise from that Harry Potter will remain a classic. Twilight was one of my favorite books but when people compare it to Harry Potter, its going to far. Both books are extremely good but they have different standpoints.

message 99: by Ellie (new)

Ellie (ekappy) | 2 comments I've always loved HP and thought Twilight was terrible, but then I actually read it. While both have similarities, they're very different from each other. I haven't re-read HP in a while and just finished Twilight a month ago, so I'm not really going to compare...
