Tracy Cool. I should really read those books again. Especially before the third comes out!

If you read the second book, Prodigy, you would probably think this series is a whole lot better

Maximum Potter I liked the first book more than the second actually

dude i totally agree miranda cosgrove would totally suck as june like omg

message 111: by Jazz (new) - rated it 4 stars

Jazz I think it would be better if they picked new actors/actresses. Otherwise it will be just like every other movie where they don't think about the character and think more about how well known the actor/actress is. For the other character roles, they could use whatever well-known person out there.

i always thought Day had bleach blonde hair. and i always pictured him more lean than buff

message 113: by [deleted user] (new)

saw this on her website

http://marielu.org/faq.html

scrolling down to the "How can Day possibly be half-Asian and half-Caucasian when he has blonde hair and blue eyes?" has in interesting take on day and his blonde hair and eyes eyes, despite his mongolian background.

Brittany I just finished the books, and I'm still having a hard time picturing Day! I thought maybe this forum would help, but unfortunately it didn't. There was some great suggestions, but none of them did it for me. So, I tried a random google search and this guy is the closest one I could find that remotely could be Day. I couldn't find his name though, but what do you all think? (Of course with blonde hair though)

message 115: by [deleted user] (new)

Eh. I think the guy is attractive , he just lacks racial ambiguity :/

Kinda wish Marie Lu would've just made him full Asian or full white. Because if no one can picture an Asian guy , making him half Asian just seems rather pointless

message 116: by [deleted user] (new)

Not to say anything is wrong with biracial characters :)

It's just making a character half white , and then giving him features associated with European features , makes so many just imagine them white.

Brittany I think you are absolutely right! It would have been easier for her to just make Day one nationality, but I'm glad she didn't because it adds more depth to the character. It is just difficult to picture someone half Mongolian half Russian with blonde hair blue eyes since it is so rare. The link you provided earlier did help me get a better idea, but as I'm reading I'm still catching myself picturing Day with more Caucasian features. I'm telling you it's his blonde hair and blue eyes that are messing me up. AH! If Marie Lu only provided a tad bit more detail on his looks. Lol, I guess I'm just stuck with that image in my head until they come out with the movie.

Brittany Haha, I put so much effort into what I think he looks like, but Marie Lu already drew Day. I'm glad I now have a picture of what he is supposed to look like.

Here is the link

message 119: by [deleted user] (new)

I didn't know Marie Lu drew??? Well at least that settles that. He kinda looks more Asian to me but maybe because of the lack of people of color in ya novels, I so badly want to see some other cultures represented :)

message 120: by [deleted user] (new)

I think because I'm so familiar with overseas Asian pop stars, picturing an Asian guy with blonde hair and blue eyes isn't hard for me. Asian pop stars born and based in Asia are so obsessed with looking European , they tend to do the blue contact thing and dye their hair blonde , especially a few years back.

Marie Lu's representation recently stated a movie option fell through because Hollywood couldn't get past a person of color being the main love interest. Her agent refused the deal. I'm not saying its legend, but looking at all the books and authors Marie Lu's agent represents, it seems legend is the most likely to be in fact the movie option they're referring to. So there may be a chance we all may never see.

I adored day wing. I can't help that I picture him Asian as much as most can't help but picture him white. There's so few people of color men, especially Asian, who get to hold a book series and not be emasculated, like in most Asian men in western culture.

I know it's difficult for publishers to grasp that everyone reads, not just Caucasian women and men. I just wish day would've had darker hair

message 121: by [deleted user] (new)

I wonder if anyone would consider a martial artist. Saw this adorable young martial artist

message 122: by [deleted user] (new)

Saw him on YouTube . Tyler weaver. He definitely looks Asian. I'm not sure if he's biracial but with a last name like weaver I'm assuming so. He has a blond streak , I wonder what it'd look like all blond. I could definitely see a guy who tricks and does martial arts over a typical Hollywood actor, considering day is really athletic

message 123: by [deleted user] (new)

Maybe I could suggest Ryan potter. He's an actor and martial artist/tricker and he's young and attractive. And a big plus is that he's bi racial(half Japanese ) so all you'd have to do us throw blue contacts in his eyes and lighten his hair and Voila!!! Day :) there you have it!!!

Lindsay Katz I think I could agree with Ryan Potter he isn't that bad... And making his hair a little lighter and MAYBE contacts would
Make it even better..

message 125: by [deleted user] (new)

Awesome

message 126: by Lucas (new)

Lucas Ferreira Erin Sian wrote: "I'm honestly not sure, but guys, it's important to remember not to whitewash Day. I've seen it happen so many times. He is NOT white."

hey genius, Day is not full blown Asian! he has long blonde hair! this is obviously the future and race and genes have changed. How many natural blonde Asians have you ever seen?!?! June says that he has a HINT of Asian! blue eyes and blonde hair. Do some more research before you try and sound like you know what you are talking about

message 127: by [deleted user] (new)

No need to be rude. Not sure why you're coming in a thread to be completely disrespectful. The author herself states there are blue eyed blonde haired Mongolians that are not mixed race.

message 128: by Deidre (new) - rated it 4 stars

Deidre Dena Kaplan who is currently on the NBC series Camp as Sarah Brennan, would be perfect for June. Day just needs to be a hunk who looks good even when he's beat up! Tall, dark and handsome.

Lindsay Katz Dena Kaplan really is a great choice for June! I think she is great

message 130: by Susie (last edited Aug 09, 2013 05:33PM) (new) - rated it 2 stars

Susie GUYS we need NEW faces if this is going to become a movie. Lily Collins is already part of TMI, I mean I really like her and everything but just no.

And...BooBoo Stewart? I definitely don't think so.

Valentina BooBoo Stewart? eh...no.

I'm so used to K-pop and Asian stars that it was fine for me picturing Day. I mean, there's this actor, Julien Kang http://i2.wp.com/24-7KPOP.COM/wp-cont... his father is korean and his mother's canadian/french I think. I'm not saying he should play Day (he's too old anyway) but just to give an idea.

Anyway I just think they should cast unknown actors with potential, casting someone close to June's description won't be that hard but Day...yeah, I still think is possible.

message 132: by [deleted user] (new)

Love julien =D

Valentina Well, maybe if Julien was younger... He's been blonde before, he is super tall and really athletic but his age :(

message 134: by [deleted user] (new)

Well he's not goina get anyway but he's still better than a bunch of suggestions =D

message 135: by Betty (last edited Aug 17, 2013 04:00PM) (new) - rated it 5 stars

Betty Cross How about Isabelle Fuhrman (Clove from Hunger Games)? She's about the right age for it.

Amy Thomson I don't want Hollywood to ruin this wonderful book series:'( Anyone with me?

Lindsay Katz Totally with you! I hope it turns out great when they make it

message 140: by Amy (new) - rated it 5 stars

Amy Thomson I just don't want them to touch it. Why do they insist on making everything into a money making machine? Like all the merchandise that's come from The Hunger Games. And it's like if you don't have the best of those products then you're not a 'real' fan.
urgh:(

Lindsay Katz Exactly! I just hope that if they follow through, it turns out good, and not butchered like the rest of the movies!

message 142: by Amy (new) - rated it 5 stars

Amy Thomson I really want to revolt and refuse to watch it but i just can't do that either because I feel like I oew it to Marie Lu. I know that if I ever became an author I'd never let my book get made into a film.

Lindsay Katz I do think that getting it made into a film would Be really great for the author and I would so be excited if it happened to me as well, just as long as it doesn't suck. The movie doesn't have to be watched either.

message 144: by Betty (new) - rated it 5 stars

Betty Cross Dana wrote: "I honestly have no idea who I want Day to be. Throughout reading both Legend and Prodigy, I've pictured June as Isabelle Furhman (she also plays Ester in the movie "Orphan" and Clove in the movie "..."
I agree. I also picture Isabelle F as June. I think she'd be great at it. She's good at playing tough, spunky characters with a mean streak, like Clove. June isn't exactly mean, except when she blames Day for her brother's death, but she could do it.

message 145: by Alec (new) - rated it 4 stars

Alec I really hope that they get unknown actors and it is very important that they get the nationalities correct, just for the sake of having a sci-fi/dystopian movie without a completely bleached out cast. I was very disappointed with the hunger games cast when I found out, (while Jennifer Lawrence was fantastic as Katniss once I'd seen the movie) and I could probably count the number of sci-fi movies released recently with non-white leads on one hand.

As for specific actors, I really have no recommendations, as I said I really hope they get unknown people.

message 146: by [deleted user] (new)

@ Alec , do you typically read diverse characters in books?

THATS KORA! Ok I'm totally down with this. Boo Boo seems kinda young to me, though. I mean, they're suppose to be 15 right? Idk maybe he'll bulk up or something, but they definitely look awesome together!

As often as I can, but they are sadly few and far between. I usually go for dystopian fiction and they are sometimes more diverse, despite the fact that the movies are so often white washed.
