Sorry, I wasn't thinking about adding this in for the month.

I just finished The Red Leather Diary: Reclaiming a Life Through the Pages of a Lost Journal by Lily Kopel for a book club I'm invovled with though my library. It is non-fiction and I loved the idea. The author finds a diary in a trunk that is being thrown out of her apartment building, and she later tracks down the owner, Florence Wolfson Howitt. I wished the book had been laid out a bit differently, because I never really connected to Florence. I only like her in the last two chapters.

I just startedThe 19th Wife by David Ebershoff on Saturday evening. I'm about 50 pages into it and enjoying. It is about a young man that was forced to leave the polygamist community he grew up in at age 14. He discovers his mother is in jail for murdering his father. It also shares the story of Brigham Young's 19th Wife along with the modern day story. It is an easy read and interesting - I want to see where the story will take me.

I'm currently reading D is for Deadbeat - which is entertaining but not really a thinking book.

I want to finish Reamde but that is going to be a time sink I fear.

I'm very behind on my reading, but have had "The 19th Wife" lined up to read next for some time. I'm almost ashamed to say I'm just now finishing up "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" which is the last of the series. Ebershoff awaits after that!

I have yet to read the final Harry Potter book - so don't be ashamed. I think I may start all over and read them in order.

I read over 100 pages last night of the 19th Wife and I'm really enjoying it. After watching Big Love I could respect the choice of polygamy - as far as I am into this book 100% against it!

I'm buckling down to read Washington A Life by Ron Chernow by Ron Chernow. It is good, but at 817 pages (hardcover) it takes awhile to read. The Americans are finally winning some battles in the Revolutionary War.

I picked this book up but was a little put off by the size, and fear it might be too scholarly. Long ago I read a book called "The Glorious Cause" by Jeff Shaara which covered the Revolutionary War. I may have to give that a second go.

It is very good and not scholarly. I've learned George had really bad hemeroids and created a good espianoge network during the Revolutionary War.

I'm going to read a book on each POTUS in order of election.

Mike (mikekeating) I've been reading and enjoying Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time fantasy series. I just began the 8th book this week. According to the fans, books 8-10 jump the shark a bit but it picks back up after that.

The Path of Daggers

Bill | 192 comments I've got my next book "The 19th Wife" by David Ebershoff on the nightstand next to my bed and will start it shortly. I'm looking forward to it now more than I thought seeing how it is about polygamy & Brigham Young & Mormonism. Timely as well as informative! There aren't a lot of Mormons in metro NYC.

I'm not a big sci-fi/fantasy fan. But I know with my experience in extended series (Stephanie Blood and True Blood) fans do get a bit discouraged. I try to look at what the author has done and it can be hard doing 10 plus books.

I know Stieg Larson writer of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo had 10 books outlined in the series. I've read the first one and holding off on the last two because I really enjoyed. I guess he almost had a 4th completed, but was adding more to the middle. Now his estate (father and brother) is fighting with is long time girlfriend over the rights. Apparently she is claiming to have contributed to the books. I highly recommend looking up Stieg Larson - as an individual he lived a fascinating life.

I'm so glad you are looking forward it reading The 19th Wife. My book club meeting is next Monday but I know three of us loved the book. I liked his style of writing and going to look of more of his books to read.

I checked to see what else he had written. I'm intrigued by "The Danish Girl". It sounds like something different. Unfortunatley my city library does not have it, but another member library in the County Association does. So I may be able to get it that way.

Going to make a quick read of Bleach 38: Fear for Fight (Bleach I love getting these things from the local Library as they are expensive.

Our tax dollars are paying for our libraries so we need to use them! There are many closing with the economy and lack of use. Andrew Cargarnie opened up a lot of libraries so we could become an educated nation. My library has a Goodreads page: Topeka Shawnee County Public Library. About 10 years ago we had an extensive remodel and Michael Graves was the architect.

The girl with books were alright. I don't think I could read 10 of them if that is true. The story also seemed really wrapped up for the final book.

LOL the comment system did not grab any of the text I was replying to. ;-)

Oh and I just got back from the library with Reamde which I will finally finish reading in a few days. I have to check, but I only have 200 or so pages left to finish the book.

Jocelyn | 30 comments I started reading Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time series about 13 years ago. I can't even remember what book I ended up at...I have a feeling it was Winter's Heart cause that was the last one out at the time.
I stopped reading them at that point cause I'd had enough...it's a looooong series!

Read all three of Steig Larson's books....couldn't put them down. Also really enjoyed the Swedish movie adapted from the books. I recently rented it from my library. It must have been a mini-series or something cause it was really long and covered the span of all three books, not just one. It's subtitled or dubbed however.
