Maybe it's because I recently read the 50 Shades series [horrible, awful, don't do it] but I really didn't find the oral sex scene in this book that big of a deal... even for a YA book.
I know. That would be sooooooooo awkward. Which one wanted that? That would be weird to write. I didn't like this book because you could tell when it was the mother writing and the daughter. That annoyed me!
well im almost 25 and im close to my mother i hide nothing i dont see how its creepy i see them have a normal ADULT relationship. I consider my mom my best friend. As im sure its the same with them

I have no comment on this, I read this book and I'm 13 and everyone asked me how a mother and daughter could write this, I have no answer to that question but I respect that they can do that without vomiting. My point is they can do it, but I could never write a book like that with my mother.
Why is that creepy? It does not have to be taboo to have a close relationship with your daughter and to be able to talk about those subjects without shame or embarrassment. There is nothing wrong with sex or speaking with your children about it. Children encounter sexuality in so many places, (and from a very young age) so I think the topic should be brought up in the home and then it will not be such a big deal when it comes up among peers or in negative ways in other places. In my opinion, the more you learn from your parents, the more you will be prepared for the "real world." My mother and I have a relationship like that. I don't talk to her about my personal encounters but it would not be weird to write a sexual scene for a book with her. Parents are human too.
