I love Ella Enchanted as well!
Otherwise I'm mildly embarassed because I read the Twilight and the Gossip Girl books. So addictive!

rebecca j (technophobe) | 6029 comments My first true addiction was the the Hobbit and Lord of the Rings books. I still re-read them every once in a while, and find new things to think about every time. I re-read a lot of books, isn't that why we collect them? Because we want to know we can go back and enjoy it again?

message 153: by Janis (new)

Janis Mills | 5 comments I love the Twilight series for one reason. I am a reading teacher and I had kids that had trouble reading and would not pick up a book if their life depended on it. Trying to engage those students is nearly impossible. One day one of my 5th graders who struggled with reading and was struggling at a 3rd grade level came in with the first of the Twilight series. She couldn't take her head out of the book. She read every book in the series. She learned to read last year and learned to read well with that book. I wanted to get down on my knees and thank that author. She has opened so many doors.

Beck | 22 comments i'd say that the most embarrassing books i have read are the harry potter series and the boxcar children mysteries by gertrude chandler warner. i am a bit old for them but i loved them and i always reread them once every few years.

message 155: by Chantelle (new)

Chantelle (chantelle13) | 90 comments I love Nora Roberts and JD Robb books. I buy almost every one that comes out.

message 156: by Rebekah (new)

Rebekah Madden (bexorz) I loved the Boxcar Children! And I think my worst is Amelia Atwater Rhodes. She wrote many as a teenager and it shows, but I still adore them.

message 157: by Cindy (new)

Cindy Smith (cynthiarsmith) | 32 comments I loved the Twilight series too. and I like the Dresden series.

I won't read them in public, but I love the Artemis Fowl series! pixies, fairies, dwarfs, trolls, goblins..oh my!

message 158: by Bob (new)

Bob Intensity by Dean Koontz

message 159: by tiasreads (new)

tiasreads I love Eugenia Price historical fiction. They are so mediocre but so good at the same time. I loved going to St. Augustine & Savannah to see some of the places mentioned in the books.

message 160: by Erin (new)

Erin When I was young, I was totally embarrassed that I read sci-fi and fantasy. I've completely gotten over that! I now admit it with pride and have found a LOT of people/friends that also were secret readers of the genre and have since stepped forward. I totally love it! It's fun, light, and usually has some great themes or social commentary that add much depth.

The only series I'm embarrassed to admit I read & like is Twilight. Oh, the shame...

I read and liked two Mitch Albom books, which I am slightly embarrassed to admit to. 5 People You Meet in Heaven, and For One More Day.

But Tuesdays with Morrie has me in tears...

message 162: by John (new)

John Karr (karr) | 28 comments Now and then I pick up a graphic novel, mostly Batman. And I'm 45 years old now. Like the dark dude, I do.

message 163: by Tara (new)

Tara (tbm126) Embarrassing: I read, and will keep up with, the Twilight series. Please don't judge me.....

Actually, judge me. Condemn me. Maybe I'll stop. I need an intervention!

I also read the Maximum Ride series by James Patterson. I read books 1-4 and haven't been bothered to pick up 5 and 6 yet, but that's on my list and I'm still mildly/lukewarmly interested in the characters. Almost. Most of this dedication is born from my love for When the Wind Blows and The Lake House.

My all-time favorite childhood book: Child of the Wolves by Elizabeth Hall. Fourth-grade reading level, but goshdarnit it's SOOOOOO good. Pick it up! It'll only take an hour.

message 164: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer | 212 comments I have the same guilty read: the twilight saga. Also the host, but is so much better than twilight. I also read faking it by Jennifer crusie at least 3 times each year!

message 165: by Dani (new)

Dani (The Pluviophile Writer) (pluviophilewriter) | 237 comments R.A. Salvatore's series on Drizzt Do'Urden. There are so many books in the series and I've read about 10 of them so far. Normally series start to lag and get lose their appeal after that many books but this series doesn't! Every novel is as unique and exciting as the last It's typical fantasy but the characters and stories are so easy to love!

Here's the first book in the series: Homeland (Forgotten Realms The Dark Elf Trilogy, #1; Legend of Drizzt, #1) by R.A. Salvatore

message 166: by Dani (new)

Dani (The Pluviophile Writer) (pluviophilewriter) | 237 comments LOL! They're addicting. I usually read a few of the series at a time before I take a breather and read something else.

message 167: by Tara (new)

Tara (tbm126) I guess this also counts as an embarrassing read, although I'll argue why it's not in a momemnt: Rick Riordan's Percy Jackson series (and now his other Egyptian series as well). Yes, it's a kid's book and there are some annoyingly childish scenes, but they just don't make good mythology literature any more! At least, not for adults!

message 168: by Lahni (new)

Lahni Ok, I'm addicted to the soul screamer series by Rachel Vincent. It is a Harlequin Teen PNR series which is so unlike my normal reading all across the board. And yet I keep going back for more. I don't know why. But the next one is supposed to be released on Jan 1 so I'm gonna go preorder it for my Kindle now.

message 169: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne (thisoilfieldwife) | 134 comments The Vampire Diaries series...and Twilight...What can I say? My husband says I'm a vampire, so I must get to know my kin. :)

message 170: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne (thisoilfieldwife) | 134 comments Oh, and I totally forgot. I'm a fan of V.C. Andrews, when it was actually her. Very sickening books, but I just have to read them!

message 171: by Arda (new)

Arda (arda_nl) | 58 comments Janis wrote: "I love the Twilight series for one reason. I am a reading teacher and I had kids that had trouble reading and would not pick up a book if their life depended on it. Trying to engage those students..."

That's such a good reason!

I have to admit I'm guilty on the Twilight front myself but (as others, I saw in previous posts) still can't figure out why! On an intellectual level it makes no sense, I hate and love them at the same time.

message 172: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne (thisoilfieldwife) | 134 comments What got me to pick up the first Twilight Series book was my stepsister. She was in love with them! So I read the first one, and because I read the first I felt compelled to finish the series. Just the way I am, I guess. Anyway, I wasn't drawn into the books because of the whole "Oh, Edward is such a great vampire and I love him so much!" and "Oh, Bella, you are the love of my non-life!" story line that they have going on. I just liked the action. The fights. The romance part wasn't up in front of all of the books for me. Just the underlying storyline. If that makes any sense at all.

message 173: by Arda (new)

Arda (arda_nl) | 58 comments So I just finished Eclipse (still both love and hate for me) and then found this review, and laughed so hard! :)
Eclipse review by James McQuivey

message 174: by MissJessie (new)

MissJessie | 1286 comments The Undead and (Unwanted, Unwed, etc) series is my big embarrassment. Silly drivel but great bathtub books.

Sookie Stackhouse runs a close second.

message 175: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer Stilwell (jennstilwell) Jill wrote: "I read a whole lot of Christopher Pike as a kid. How many spooky ways can a girl with absentee parents find herself in mortal peril?"

I loooooooved Christopher Pike!

message 176: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer Stilwell (jennstilwell) I must admit that I too loved the Twilight series. I have no idea why but it sucked me in like a black hole. My real dirty little secret book(s) would have to be the Anita Blake series. All it is is vampire smut but I love it so!

message 177: by Kaion (new)

Kaion (kaionvin) Julie and Romeo and even more embarassingly, its sequel Julie and Romeo Get Lucky. I'm not a senior. I'm not a florist. I'm not Italian or Jewish. I don't even really like Shakespeare, so I have NO excuses to explain it.

message 178: by Tara (new)

Tara (tbm126) Jennifer wrote: "I must admit that I too loved the Twilight series. I have no idea why but it sucked me in like a black hole. My real dirty little secret book(s) would have to be the Anita Blake series. All it is ..."

Same here! For about a week I went Twilight crazy... even bought the hardcover boxed collection. I wallowed away a few hours saying how dreamy Edward was, plotted to name a child Emmett, and, finally, came to my senses.

message 179: by Esther (new)

Esther (eshchory) | 575 comments I'm rarely embarrassed about what I read.
However I read a lot in public while commuting and when I get to 'one of those scenes' in the Sookie Stackhouse novels I tend to hide behind my book so no one will notice I'm getting a little hot under the collar!!

message 180: by Ashleigh (new)

Ashleigh Spicy Geek (ashleigh_stephens) I am also on the guilty train of loving the Twilight Saga. I went through all four books in only a couple days. Another guilty pleasure, more when I was younger than now, was the Goosebumps books. I've graduated to Stephen King now but as a kid that was my scary book love. One I recently read and don't care if everyone in the world hated it or not was Fifty Shades of Alice in Wonderland. Funny and provocative, when I got to the end I was wanting more because I loved it so much

message 181: by Nicole (new)

Nicole | 41 comments Perfect Chemistry. I have held myself back and not read the next ones yet. But I have a feeling I may cave at some point.
