You're bringing age into this? haha oh wow. Actually i'm 18 and age is irrelevant and the
fact that you seem to think it matters makes me laugh. How
old are you anyway? I never would have guessed you were an adult. Since adults are so "mature" why are you on goodreads judging people and trying to put people in their
places? That is not something an adult does as it seems that you're claiming to be one. I'd have thought you'd have better things to do.

Oh so you're above people here. Is that what you think? In that case go on Yahoo since
you clearly think you're better than discussing on this site.

I can honestly say that you truly didn't offend me. I defend myself no matter what. If someone is going to keep replying in an arguement then i will keep going until it is over.
Hence why i said i'm opinionated and arguementative. I would hate for you to think that your judgemental assumptions offended me. Im not that easily offended.

No, Harry Potter is actually my favourite.
I like it because i do. I dont care if you think your taste is above mine. You obviously do not like the hunger games that much so why watse your time commenting and interacting
with its fan? Being an adult and all i would have thought you were better than that and had no time for this.

Don't worry about feeling guilty. Teenagers obviously aren't as incapable as you seem to think. So i don't need your apology.

Jessica Tina I think it's time you backed off. This is starting to get tiring to read.

Honestly, there is nothing wrong with Amanda's passion for the series and whether it's her favorite book or not does not make her any less in anyone's eyes. She has thoughtful, intelligent remarks to make on the book. Can she get a bit righteous? Perhaps; but I understand that it can be frustrating when you have other users make uneducated, shallow comments about THG or (her favorite character) Gale.

Amanda, I wouldn't even waste another moment on what Tina has to say. The Hunger Games is a wonderful series and it's time we get back to talking about that.

Is there anyone out there that has impression one way or another for Gale?

Thank you.
I'm not annoyed that she doesn't like Gale because I respect that not everyone does. If she made a comment about him I probably wouldn't have bothered. The thing that made me say anything in the first place is the fact that Tina felt like she needed to put people in their place, like she has a right to do so and the fact that she is judging people and thinking that people weren't respecting her opinion. Then there is the fact that she
seems to have something against teenagers and felt like she needed to judge everyone. That's what I didn't like. So yeah, this discussion or
whatever doesn't really have anything to do with Gale.
The fact that I'm apparently "physcotic" and "obsessive" just pissed me off. I don't like when someone can be so judgemental.
Anyway you're totally right. I'm going to try not to bother with her.

It's okay :) I'm sorry anyone had too.
You're welcome. If she had insulted Gale that's fine, but the fact that she's judging and making assumptions about Gale fans and Hunger Games fans just annoyed me.
I hope she has too, I'll try to restrain myself but it's not in my nature to do so.
Oh and nice speech by the way :)

Girls, Gale is amazing! This is ONE of my favorite books, and Gale was the only one that I really liked! Peeta, yes, he was nice, and a good speech guy, but Gale all the way!

message 209: by [deleted user] (new)

And good job, Amanda! You stood up well and hopefully chased Tina away! And you had the right to do so and used it well, I love defending my opinions and after the baker's boy sway, I watched the movie and fell to Gale again!

Grlpwr00 At first I liked Gale but when she atually started liking Peeta he just moved in on her wich made her more confused. Plus why did he kill Prim. If I was Katniss i would never ever speak to him again!

Gale only helped make the bomb, as one of the girls said around here. He thought it would be to help the rebellion!

Coin was the one who set them down in the field, instead of using it to bomb up the Capitol or something.

Coin should have gone down! It wasn't Gale's fault! Maybe partially, but he didn't know!

Beetee didn't know! Or maybe he did, but that's not the point!

Am I sounding too choppy or childish? I'm trying to write a novel and I don't want it to sound weird. Give me your comments on this!

ℂᖺαᖇᒪἷ℮ ⊰1017 &Tardis⊱ @Foxface, you're writing was pretty good, just too many exclamation points lol. It sounds fine though.

Thanks! But I'm so expressive, I don't know what I'll do without that many exclamation points! See? More emphasis there to it!

Melinda I have to say that I found Gale to be slightly self absorbed once they get to District 13. He did amazing things for the people of District 12 and you can tell that he cares for Katniss, but he gets to a point were it becomes less about her and the mission and more about him and getting recognition. Peeta is a favorite character of mine once I really analyzed his character because he was written to be a truly genuine and loving person. Gale was unlike Peeta in that he was hot headed and angry while Peeta is calm and compassionate.

Wow. You summed up a lot of what I have been trying to get into words for 5 pages into a paragraph. *clapping*

I feel like Tina got chased away. I actually enjoyed her opinion (not that I don't enjoy everyone else's) And just the fact that you guys were happy about it suggests you didn't want to respect her. Not her opinion. Her. Okay enough rant there. Just learn that people have feeling. Amanda you made some strong points. I loved how both of you stood up for yourselves. But to drive someone off is just....no comment.

Have a nice night ya'll!

message 216: by [deleted user] (new)

Yes, Gale was kind of self-absorbed, but I really just kind of like his way, in the first book, of taking care of Katniss's family. That's caring.

He cared for Katniss's family, and his own. A self-absorbed guy, as Melinda and Christi, and many others believe he is, wouldn't do that, now, would he?

And Christi, Tina's tried the same thing to another Gale-lover. And she tried over and over. It's not that I don't respect her, it's just that I don't exactly like her style of approaching the subject. And, she said a few things that could be counted as, um, uncivil comments. I just didn't like that and I stuck onto Amanda's side.

The thing is everyone in this topic has been respecting each others opinion, including Tina's. But do I respect her? No, of course not. What has she done for me to actually
want to respect her? Nothing. I don't respect anyone who sits there and calls me physcotic or obsessed. I never once called her anything. Then of course she brought up the whole age thing and again gave me another reason not to respect her. Not only that but she came into this discussion just to put people in their place and pretty much insulted
everyone on goodreads. Those are not the actions of someone anyone would respect. This may sound harsh but I won't apologize for it. She was not only rude to me but to
others.
Besides my intentions weren't to drive her off, I was just letting her know that she can't
come on here expecting to put people in their place or judge everyone. Anyway I hardly doubt I drove her off. She said so herself she prefers Yahoo because that's where all the mature adults have discussions- or whatever it was she said.
That's all I'm going to say. And I'm not trying to argue or anything :)

Jessica M, I think that's a good point about Gale. We really don't know who Gale was until Book 3 but honestly, when his personality was finally put into the limelight, it didn't surprise me. What we knew based on Katniss' thoughts and some of his dialogue started to divulge his identity. Does that make any sense?

This is the problem when I post and work at the same time. :)

PS- Christi, I understand where you're coming from and I don't know if people wanted to chase Tina away but no one crowned her with the divine right to come into several discussion threads and virtually condescend people. This website is meant to be fun and socially engaging as well as these discussion threads; it's ok to have heat in your comments but no one deserves to be put down because of their comments. And Tina incited such talk so... that's my rant.

Jessica, I found out that President Coin on purpose put Prim in the battlefield because she knew Prim would die. The reason why is because when they won against the capitol they would elect a new president and who were they going to elect? Katniss. So Coin wanted the world to see how Katniss went crazy after her sister died. That's why Katniss, instead of shooting snow she shot Coin.

Emily All I can say is... Hey there good looking! Even though I love Josh Hutcherson!

Elizabeth M. Really though, I hated Coin even more. Liam Hensworth is just hot, but I see what suzanne did. She made a character to dislike for that reason, so... I still like Peeta better. People always say he's a wimp, but when they do I alway think " You be in his spot, get your leg cut down to the bone and take care of your self." That's kinda mean, but honestly that's what happens. Gale as a character didn't work. Katniss ends up being even more confused than she already was with the whole love triangle thing. It ticked me off.

message 236: by Suge (new) - rated it 5 stars

Suge I didn't like Gale from day one. He felt scandalous in a way, maybe it was just how his character was written. I don't think Katniss ever truly loved him; maybe she just had a crush on Gale. Maybe she just had a crush on Peeta for what he'd done for her and her family and that was nurtured through the Hunger Games. I honestly think that Katniss would never have fallen in love with and married neither. I think her crush for Peeta was forced to grow by the Hunger Games and for awhile she was just playing along until she finally admitted to herself that she really did have feelings for Peeta, especially in Mockingjay. Anyways, Gale always seemed like he was doing something for his own good, and not the good of his own people. He seemed selfish and only wanted what he wanted. I don't think he ever cared truly for Katniss. But this is only my opinion.

message 237: by BookSins (new) - added it

BookSins I've never been a fan of Gale, since the very first book. He's kinda like Katniss, fierce, strong, and, "driven by hate", just like Katniss said. maybe I'll love this qualities, it's just Katniss already had this, and if she ever, EVER pick Gale over my beloved Peeta, I'm not only going to breakdown but also wonder if that will ever work. Even Katniss realized that they're just too similar. It will be kind of unbalance. And my dislike of him was official after I read Mockingjay. He become from, a strong guy you can rely on to overly sadistic douchebag. So yeah, I don't like him

Elizabeth Day I actually am very, very, very, very Team Peeta. But I still think that Gale was not at fault for Prim's death. Prim was not supposed to be where she was. He did not know that she was going to be there. Gale loved Prim. He would never try to kill her on purpose.

message 239: by Emily (new) - rated it 5 stars

Emily Sykes I love a guy who can hunt, so I loved Gale for that. But he made the bombs that killed Prim, that uh changed my opinion a little bit. He was kinda rushing Katniss with the whole deciding between him and Peeta thing. He needed to take a step back and let the girl deal.

message 243: by Anonymous (new)

Anonymous I am team Peeta, but I disagree that Gale killed Prim. Coin killed her. However, that obviously was a cheap excuse for SC to take to make a quick decision on who Katniss would end up with.
For those who call people weak:
First, he killed Brutus, a career perfectly capable of killing Peeta
Second, maybe he did cause Katniss a lot of trouble, but in Catching Fire, she decided it to be worth her time
Third, he came in second to his older brother in wrestling
Finally, he was not only willing to accept that Katniss may have loved Gale, but also let her know that he was OK with it and was going to support her UNLIKE Gale.

Alchoholicblackbear People say it’s not his fault that the bomb was placed near Prim, causing her to burst into flames. But I disagree. President Snow used the children as a barrier for his mansion, to keep himself safe. That should have been enough to stop district 13 from placing Gale's bomb there. There were innocent children around that mansion, and district 13 was willing to kill them off just to get to President Snow. But it’s only when Gale realises that Prim was down there that he regrets it.

There is no way that Gale would willingly kill Prim just to win a war. But instead district 13 thinks it’s ok to kill other innocent children off using one of his bombs. Since when is that ok? It is his fault that Prim died, it is his fault that Katniss is burst into flames and it is his fault that Katniss’ mother now has to live without her husband and her daughter.

Peeta is a far better boyfriend than Gale could ever be. Peeta is always there for her when she needs to. Peeta has always loved her, but it’s only when he admits his love for her that Gale starts to feel the same way. I think this is ridiculous. He is just toying with poor Katniss' feelings. And when Gale should have been there for Katniss all he did was give he crap because of what the Capitol was doing to Peeta. Peeta couldn't control what had been done to him. Gale needs to learn how to deal with his anger, not let it out on the people he 'loves'.

Belle Gale just annoys me. It would be way better if he and Katniss just remained friends. And he kind of abandoned Katniss in the end of Mockingjay.

message 246: by Shiah (new) - rated it 4 stars

Shiah I liked Gale. No he wasn't my favorite character but I did like him. I would have been really upset if he died and I'm happy he lived. I think he was a good and important character. He was a good friend to Katniss, he took care of her family when she was gone. Made sure they didn't starve. I honestly never understood the hate on him. Yeah It might be his fault Prim died but all that hate for that? Don't get me wrong I loved Prim so much but really? Is all the hate on him necessary? Because I don't think it is/was. We never were flat out told it was his fault and we were never told it wasn't. I like the Katniss ended up with Peeta and I would have been just as fine if she had ended up with Gale. And I think that hating on Gale because he didn't end up with Katniss is frankly kinda stupid. First of all love is not the main plot for this as many people seem to think. The story happened because she wanted to save Prim not because she fell in love. It was an important part of the story but not the main plot. Second I don't really think Katniss and Gale belonged together. I feel like they were better off friends. But that's just me.

Evannah I really like gale and he was one of my favourite characters in the series. But he gets so much hate which is sad. He has faults unlike peeta! And honestly I like characters that have faults and aren't perfect. He really cared about katniss but why I like him is that he cared about EVERYONE, not just a few people like most of the characters in the series. He looked after katniss' family as well as his own. He single-handedly saved 800 people's lives! And he fought to free the district's. And I felt really bad for him throughout most of the series.

Everyone says they hate him because he killed prim. He designed a bomb? That doesn't mean he killed prim! He just helped his fight which is what everyone in wars does. That bomb killed people yes, but everyone else in the series killed people as well!

I feel like Suzanne Collins made him move to district 2 at the end of the book because she wanted to get rid of him so katniss could marry peeta... Which I didn't like very much... But I loved gale because he was very selfless.

message 248: by A.J. (new) - rated it 4 stars

A.J. I liked Gale. I think that he was just a poor guy who loved Katniss since he first met her and then he had to sit and watch her fall in love with someone else. After the first book I think that Collins saw that too many people were falling for Gale and she gradually changed him. He is not a bad guy. I agree with Evannah, he was very selfless. I just fell for Peeta at the beginning which is why Gale has never been my favorite. I believe Gale and Peeta both deserve someone better than Katniss.

message 249: by [deleted user] (new)

In the first book I really was enjoying Gale more than Peeta, but it got less and I thought how they both are not strong enough to be with Katniss
and then in the movies I started liking Peeta and Josh Hutcherson made Peeta a better character I think
I didn't like Gale/Liam Hemsworth in the movies because he just did some dumb things at trying to win Katniss back (in the books too tbh).

message 250: by Anonymous (new)

Anonymous For all of you guys saying hat Gale killed Prim: Coin killed her. Gale may have sadistically made the bomb and blown up the Nut (showing no mercy), Coin decided to USE his bomb intentionally on Prim to stick Katniss firmly by her side. COIN decided that those Capitol children were worth the sacrifice and stuck Prim in there as an added bonus. Gale didn't even know the weapon would actually be used. The way you guys are blaming Gale for the bomb is just like blaming the person who made the gun that eventually killed 26 people in Sandy Hook Elementary. Btw: PEETA IS THE MAN!! EVERLARK FTW!!!
