I am reading The Art of War by Sun Tzu

message 53: by Sergio (new)

Sergio (sergiob) | 11 comments I've already read The Magicians and The Magician King, which is actually great for me, as it gives me a chance to catch up on other books on my backlog.

I finished Howl's Moving Castle yesterday and have started The Graveyard Book. I plan to get through Battle Royale this month. It'll be the first paper book I've read since the last Harry Potter since it isn't available in audio or ebook form.

Jenny (jennyc89) | 116 comments I'm reading The Rook on my Kindle. So far it's really cool and original. I didn't know what to expect when I picked it up. I'm also continuing the Southern Vampire Mysteries by listening to All Together Dead on audio.

Andrew Ragland Procrastinador: Hooray for Peter Hamilton!

I'm halfway through Behemoth, the second in Scott Westerfeld's steampunk WW1 trilogy, and quite enjoying it. The Darwinist-Clanker schism reminds me of Hamilton's Adamist-Edenist division, and I like that we're seeing both sides of the conflict, the advantages and disadvantages of both. The introduction of the American character, and the comment that Americans mooch a bit from both sides of the divide, promises to give yet a third option, if Westerfeld explores that character a bit more.

I just finished reading Dragon age Asunder, and I am looking forward to reading a forth DA book. I have now switched over to reading my Tom Clancy Books, reading through the Ryanverse, Just start on Some of all Fears, which is nothing like the movie. Infact the the only vague simaralities is the Title of the book/movie. My next read will either be a Starwars book, or a Mass Effect Book, as My best friend (Jane) and I have just started to play it ME 1.

message 62: by Been (new)

Been | 125 comments Already ploughed through Mortal Coil and loved it so much that I can't believe I tried taking a break from the series. Started Death Bringer today, and I'm going to pick up The Amber Spyglass from the library this weekend so I can finish off the "His Dark Materials" trilogy afterwards.

Amy Osterholm (oamyoh) | 11 comments Listening to I've Got Your Number, by Sophie Kinsella - pure fluff but fun.

message 64: by Esther (new)

Esther (eshchory) I've just finished It's Kind of a Funny Story - nary a sword nor a laser.
I am about to start The Magicians

message 65: by Ken (new)

Ken | 141 comments About 3/4 the way through The Anubis Gates. It's good, but it's more of a period piece (also with magic) where the traveler is the duck out of water in the past. I'd like to find one where the tech and the travel is more the star.

message 66: by Sctechsorceress (new)

Sctechsorceress I'm about to start reading The Magicians in paperback. I have two other ways of reading. I have a Kindle Fire, which is my favorite e-reading device, and I usually have something going there. That's about to be The Honor of the Queen, but I'm holding off for a bit. I also plan to participate in a discussion the Baen Bar about the Honorverse main series books, and I don't want to get too far ahead. I also read via Kindle for Android on my phone. That's the most portable reading method, but best for shorter fiction. So now I am reading [book:Lord Darcy|880461. It's a big book, but an omnibus of a number of shorter works.

message 67: by Been (new)

Been | 125 comments Welp, I've already finished ploughing through Death Bringer and read some of the short stories too. Great book, but it starts to drag on a bit for the last quarter or so. And the teen romance was laid on a bit too thickly this time around. But all in all, the story was excellent and the plot twists were unexpected and fit well with the past stories.

Now I'm starting on The Amber Spyglass. Not sure what I'll read when I'm done with this.

message 68: by Otto (new)

Otto (andrewlinke) | 110 comments A friend turned me on to Garth Nix's Abhorsen series. Currently reading Lirael and hoping to finish it today or tomorrow (yay for spring break). When finished with that I'll either finish Makers or read Use of Weapons.

message 69: by Don (new)

Don McDonald (dmmacs) | 114 comments Listening to The Lies of Locke Lamora after finishing The Magicians, I know out of order. Reading The Gods of Mars as part of a 5 book collection I got on Kindle for $0.99. I'd forgotten how old fashioned Burroughs style is from reading Tarzan as a kid. I don't care for it but the stories are still pretty good. Also back to working on Being Geek: The Software Developer's Career Handbook, hope to finish it this month.

message 70: by Stephen (new)

Stephen Holmes | 20 comments I just picked up Triggers and have started in on that one. Not sure where I am going after that.

message 71: by JRush (new)

JRush | 64 comments Currently reading On Basilisk Station, loving how much it gives of the Star Trek-on-the-bridge-saving-humanity vibe. Listening to Mistborn: The Final Empire after hearing how similar to Lies of Locke Lamora its supposed to be. I really liked TLOLL but the magic system in Mistborn is awesome.

Also trying really hard to wait a few weeks before starting Hyperion. Thats my only concern with picking the next book in advance, I just can't control myself!

message 72: by Tamahome (new)

Tamahome | 7217 comments Just read the first Hyperion story about the priest. :)

Sara (medusasmirror) | 44 comments I'm reading The Rookright now. so far, it's really cool. And Timeless, the last in the Parasol Protectorate series.

message 74: by Ken (new)

Ken | 141 comments Just finished
The Anubis Gates. One of the main characters has a laudanum problem. In the last quarter of the book, I wonder if the author may have found his gateway drug to laudanum himself. It just got weird.

I loved the Riverworld series. I first read it over 30 years ago and have read it at least 3 times.

It is a fantastic concept. Every person who has ever lived, all reborn (At age 25) on one long river and no one can age or die (permanently). Sounds like paradise, except humans being humans, things never run smoothly or peacefully.

I hope you like it it enough to read the other 4 books in the series.

SyFy have twice tried to make a TV show based on it but completely butchered the story both times.

AndrewP (andrewca) | 2667 comments Almost finished with On Basilisk Station on kindle and like JRush I am really liking this. Half way through King Solomon's Mines on audio as part of my 'read some classics' binge. Finally received a copy of The Magicians yesterday and will be starting that very soon. Hyperion is also sitting on my pile so that will be up next. Depending on what gets picked next I might have to take an S&L break to read some other monster tomes. Peter F. Hamilton to name one:)

message 81: by Valerie (new)

Valerie (darthval) | 96 comments Of course, reading The Magicians for SL.

Since I discovered SL through Felicia Day and her Geek and Sundry Channel, I am also honoring Steampunk April for VF. I just read The Iron Duke and the final book of the Parasol Protectorate, Timeless (since I've already read Soulless).

Is it just me, or does anyone else have a major girl crush on Felicia Day???

For my real-life, local in person book club, I am reading Tinker Tailor Solider Spy.

I also have a situation where all of my library holds are coming in, so I hope I can make it through my in-coming queu:
A Game of Thrones
The Hangman's Daughter
Curse the Dawn
Kitty Takes a Holiday
Bloodfever

Of course, I suspect I will start the next SL selection by the end of April, too.

Kevin Xu (kxu65) | 1081 comments Jennifer wrote: "To Your Scattered Bodies Go Liking it so far! Has anyone else read it?"

I loved the first two books, but when the third books to me was not as good because of the way he wrote the story. I have still to read the last two books, which I have in hardcover collecting dust.

message 84: by Ken (new)

Ken | 141 comments I've read some iffy reviews on this one, but since I have it and I'm finally ahead of S+L, here goes: Doomsday Book

message 85: by Joseph (new)

Joseph | 2433 comments Just finished A Path to Coldness of Heart (the long-awaited (by me, at least) conclusion to Glen Cook's Dread Empire series) and since I was on a Glen Cook role, started Sung in Blood.

Cleveland I am working my way through "The Wise Man's Fear by Patrick Rothfuss. It's a little slow going but when it's good, it's good. The Wise Man's Fear

message 94: by Beth (last edited Apr 13, 2012 07:56PM) (new)

Beth (bethieboop) | 10 comments I am currently reading the first book in the World War I series by Anne Perry, called No Graves As Yet. I've always liked her books but have had a long break from them because there's only so much William Monk or Thomas Pitt I can take.

This book is actually reminding me slightly of a series by Jo Walton with the books Farthing, Ha'penny, and Half a Crown which were FANTASTIC and I highly recommend.

message 95: by Been (new)

Been | 125 comments Taking a slight detour from reading The Amber Spyglass I've been reading through Peter V Brett's short stories The Great Bazaar And Other Stories and Brayan's Gold which I picked up back during the Kindle sale in January. Finished the first one already and really enjoyed it. About halfway through Brayan's Gold now too and it's shaping up to be just as good.

message 97: by Alterjess (new)

Alterjess | 319 comments Just finished 1Q84 and am starting on Gods Without Men, which reminds me a little of American Gods on its face, but I've been told it goes in a very different direction.

message 98: by Neko (new)

Neko Soulless, Penny Arcade Volume 3: The Warsun Prophecies, The Sealed Letter..I've been really dragging my heals when it comes to reading though.

Hopefully will finish Soulless so I can read The Iron Duke but because it was released later in UK/NZ/AU like this week! I can only start it now.

message 99: by Orlando (new)

Orlando Falvo | 20 comments I am re-reading/or listening (depending where I am)to the the enter Harry Dresden series in order. It has been awesome and it was interesting to notice that after book three the novels really took off. I think I read Jim Butcher make that statement but I did not realize it until I read them in order. James Marsters reading of the books gets better and better. Side Note: I do plan on reading "The Magicians" this summer before Dragon Con.
