I am trying to help a co-worker who only vaguely remembers a book he read probably as a young adult. He thought it was one he could read in an hour or two now.
He said he doesn't remember much about the book, although he loved it. He said there were several children in the story that was set in the future. They traveled dimensions (but he didn't think time) with the help of some Silver Orb type thing that followed them around.
He said that the cover was like a pencil sketch of a house (or houses), a child or children, and a silver orb which was one of the characters in the story.
During one scene he seems to remember a trip to a 2 dimensional area, and the child being unable to breathe. He told me though it is NOT "A Wrinkle In Time" which is what I was thinking. He did say he thinks he read "A Wrinkle In Time" about the same age as this other book he is really trying to find.
