I need to be up high so I'm safe from Gaby and Cedar's close combat attacks, if both or just one are alive.

I look for something that is hard to be visible in, such as a tree or a giant cliff, but cliffs aren’t the best choice. I guess I’m going to climb a tree. All of a sudden, I hear the anthem. I assume that the Gamemakers want whoever is remaining to know who is alive and to forget who’s not. I look up in the sky and today had the most deaths that occurred since the blood bath. First, it shows Fade and works down all the way to Daniel from my district. My birthday was a good one except for the killing other tributes, but I didn’t die. Twenty-one tributes died within eight days, which only leaves Gaby, Cedar, and me. I’m screwed! However, I remember, I’ve already tricked Gaby in giving me the bow and arrows so I might not be screwed. I climb up in a tree that is more difficult to see if you’re looking up. It’s a sturdy tree, but it’ll hold me anyway since I’m so light and short. I’m going to get some sleep since I don’t have to tend to any injuries and won’t need food until the morning. I’m asleep, but alert now waiting for what’s to come at me tomorrow. I’m not looking forward to it.

I wake up, and it’s the ninth day in the arena. I’m hoping that I’m going home by tomorrow or the next day because I WILL not die and I want to be able to be with my family and friends. I know I need food, but I can’t go to my traps or my old campsite because Gaby is bound to be there. I had to show it her them so I could go get the food I caught before we attacked the Careers.

I look up in the sky and say, “Please,” as a way to ask my sponsors that I need food. A couple seconds later a parachute comes, and I open it to find a whole meal to eat. There’s the peaches and chili that I loved eating in the Capital, along with water. There’s a note that says, You know what has to be done. Do it. I will definitely follow what Katniss and Peeta’s, my mentors, advice. I eat my meal up in the tree, and I come down with my bow and arrows ready for any attacks. I walk around, but I won’t go near the Cornucopia because I think Cedar is still there. I could use the Cornucopia as an advantage when battling him. I hide my backpack in a tree hole and I keep continuing. I try to find clues to where Gaby has gone, and I finally find a fresh trail of muddy female shoeprints.

She has to be close, but where is she?

I hear a voice all of a sudden, “That was smart what you did. You tricked me into giving you the bow and arrows. You killed one of the Careers, but you left once you killed Fade. Were you hoping that Cedar would go after me by tricking him to think I killed her?”

“I’ll be honest with you and say, ‘Yes, I did,’” is all I need to reply.

“I guess whoever kills the other will take on Cedar tomorrow since the Gamemakers will want this Game of theirs to continue on.”

“You’re right and I plan to be the one to take him on,” I say with complete certainty.

“Alright, so this is how I want our fight. I won’t use the spears and you won’t you the bow and arrows. Got it?”

“Yes, of course,” I don’t need the bow and arrows when I’m just using my brute strength because I have the knife that got thrown at me at the blood bath hidden and in my belt.

We throw our stuff over the cliff and we move down the hill. After we get down the hill, we start tearing each other apart. We pulling each other’s hair and scratch and bite each other. We fall on the ground and we’re rolling on top of each other while attacking. I let this go on for another ten minutes until I don’t want to deal with her anymore so when I’m on top for a second I get my knife out of my belt loop. She on top of me again, but she has the knife blade in her stomach. She gives me a look of fear so I put her down on her back and off me. A minute later, her cannon fires to announce her death. That leaves Cedar and me until this is all over. I take my knife out of her stomach to clean. I'll have to get my bow and arrows back, but I go to the tree that has my backpack in it and take it. I clean the knife and then use the remaining medicine for the cuts and gashes she gave me.

I have to get away from here. The memories are too painful. I stay near the waterfall and make my way back around to the other side of our camp, where i killed Brent. I feel my luck is best here, and besides, this is where Fade and i shared our first kiss. not but a few days ago. Now she's gone. My stomach wrenches and i lean over, yank up some seaweed, and take a bite, it's salty taste resembling my tears, but calming me at the same time.
It tastes of home.
HOME! my heart skips a beat as i realize, I really might make it! Home, to my sister and my uncle, and to all the friendly men at the market, and my friends who must me cheering me on now more than ever. i smile at the thought.
I set up camp with newfound strength, and when im finished, treat myself to broiled seaweed. Not the tastiest, but filled with nutrients and starches which fill me up. Dousing my fire with salt water until it glows green and goes out, i relax onto my sleeping bag and sit with my weapons at the ready, into the dark night. Fade's honey scent still lingers on the edges of the fabric and i breathe them in deeply, trying to remember, but my mind lingers on to other things.
A parachute! It's silver likeness drifts down towards me, and as i rip it open, i see a glistening arm band. Confused, i slip it on and instantly, it goes from a lightweight piece to an amazing piece of armory, a silver shield. This is no ordinary piece of metal, it's Capitol engineered and seemingly impenetrable.
A note has come with it. "To protect you from harm. To show you the light. You're closer than ever Cedar. Not all hope is lost."
Anne. My god she has a way with words. It's rumored that her husband saved her from her games, and ever since his death, she's become an amazing poet. She may not talk much, but boy can she write. And the words are just right. She must understand what I'm going through, and for that, im grateful.

I sit in the dark, with only the dark blue glow of the fake sky to reflect off my shiny new shield. A cannon fired sometime after i set up camp, and the face of a girl, the one who ran off with a bloody ear, flashes on the giant screen projection. This leaves only me and princess to go, i knew she'd be a fighter, ever since she powered through the bloodbath at the Cornucopia and ran off on her own. She's clever, planning to have the other tributes fight for her and hopefully kill off her biggest threats, but so am i, and hopefully she got some injuries from battling it out with that other girl, so now it's just her and me. I take my time now to write my goodbyes, scratching them out on a piece of dry seaweed. I tuck the 'paper' into my belt so that they might find it if i don't make it out of here alive. It's the best i can do. I think of crying then shake the idea from my head. No. All of my thoughts must me pin sharp. I must Kill Marissa. But, lighting a huge bonfire out of seaweed and dried grass, i lie in wait for my prey to come to me.

A few hours pass, just as my fire begins to fade away, only smoldering embers now, i hear a rustle on the rocks, and spring into action, shielding my face as an arrow comes whizzing out of the darkness...

((OOH! my number is 400, Marylin, pick yours, and Lala can message Sam with whatever # comes up on random.org or whatever teh website is.))

Adena (dinoxouris) | 205 comments ((Cedar's Heroic Death))

Ping! Ping! Ping! Rapid fire arrows clang against my shield as the girl in the shadows steps out into the light of the dying bonfire. "ARGHH!" I scream as i charge at her, sward held at the ready.
She ducks, and i curse as my sward barely scratches her scalp but practically shaves her hair away on that side of her head. She screams at me as we circle each other, "You cut my hair off you dirty bastard!" i spit at her feet. "Serves you right! this one's for Fade!" I charge at her again, and she scampers away, but my sward manages to find it's mark. this time making a deep cut in her left arm down low, all the way to the bone. She screams in agony. I give a primal howl as i leap back.
Pulling out a long, sharp knife with her one good hand, she charges at me. i leap back but not before she can make a good cut down my side. It hurts, but i can bare the pain. Physically it won't do me much harm. We continue circling each other, hissing and reaching out to inflict minor wounds, when i say, "what, little princess doesn't like to get dirty?" the words are spat like venom and, filled with rage, she charges, and head-buts me to the ground. Completely caught unawares, i kick and punch and, as a last resort, pull out my final remaining shark tooth and jab her in the eye. in her hesitant moments, i reach out my arm to detract my shield back into an arm band and grab Fade's fighting daggers. Slashing at the half-blind girl in front of me, i manage to pin her to the ground. We wrestle and fight for what seems like hours.
The girl's amazing with her little knives, slashing and quickly pulling away. Hissing and growling like animals, we roll around until, eventually, we're both standing, covered in blood, huffing and puffing, and covered in almost-fatal wounds. Her arm injury, as well as her missing eye, chopped up hair, and maimed foot, are nothing compared to the gash on her lower back, deep and bleeding profusely. Im no better. I've lost my pinky and ring fingers on my left hand, my calve is torn open so that i can no longer put weight on it, and i have a cut on my upper chest that, because of my ribcage, didn't make it all the way down to my vitals.
We stand limp, breathless, and right when i feel a last wave of adrenaline to push me through this, she tackles me over again, pining me to the ground. She musta gotten her last hit of energy a hair earlier than i did. Well, it doesn't help me now. Even though she's a relatively small girl, her weight seems tenfold as she sprawls over my weak body. I have no hope left. In her eyes i see something, that she doesn't want to do this, as she takes her knife and runs it deep into my side. The pain is unbearable, but i can't let it show. i'll die with dignity, as i croak to her, "there's a strip of seaweed under my belt. Give it to my sister for me, will ya?" she nods a yes, and i can see a tear dwelling in her eye. Does she really care about me? in answer, she replies, "im sorry." a deeper meaning than she might know lies in those two little words, which comfort me on my deathbed. white specks begin to bubble up in the corners of my vision and i know the end is near. "Fade, I love you" i say into the open, choking on my own blood.

The world grows dark, and i fade into nothingness. Fade greets me at the end of the chaos, and our souls remain intertwined forever.

((The End))
