Regina (reginar) Yeah until it is you kissing someone's ear! :)

Marcella, I would encourage your sister to look for a job too. Just my 2 cents, but I have been in bad office environments and they only get worse, nothing is lost by both of you looking! That must be great to work with your sister though.

Kay, I can see how someone would feel that way. Definitely no leave it to beaver household for my childhood. I can see how that would have been difficult. I often wonder what my kids will regret about the childhood I am giving them.

Marcella (marcella6) | 886 comments My sis needs the flexibility of this job because of her boys. She can't afford child care so she has to leave early sometimes. They are very lax when it comes to taking time off and taking care of personal business. Unfortunately not all law firms are like that.

Working with her is great. We are close so it helps.

message 3553: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Marcella, I will stop after this - -but I have now worked in 4 lawfirms and I fell into the trap of thinking my first was the most flefxible. I never left and never tried to find something different because I truly believed it was the only place I could be a mom and it hurt my career temporarily. I now know that most employers have begun to be more flexible on those issues. At every single law firm I have worked at there are people who leave early, anyway -- looking doesn't hurt. I hope you find a solution that doesn't create so much stress in your lives!

message 3554: by Marcella (new)

Marcella (marcella6) | 886 comments Thanks Regina! I appreciate the advice. I need to talk to my sis again about this.

message 3555: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) I just hate to see you all suffer like this.

message 3556: by Marcella (new)

Marcella (marcella6) | 886 comments That's really sweet Regina...it means a lot. Thanks!

message 3557: by Leea (new)

Leea I'm about 62% done with Forever Mine (The Moreno Brothers, #1) by Elizabeth Reyes It's funny because I don't mind controlling/Alpha males in adult romance but for some reason when it's YA it really bothers me. I know we all have our 'issues' with this, Not that Angel is really controlling he's just so jealous and not wanting Sarah to have any 'male' friends or the idea that men and women cannot be friends. I for one have had many male friends, where nothing has happend and one I married. lol!

message 3558: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) I'm the same way. I love controling Alpha men in adult books, but I get turned off in YA if they're controling.

In YA, I prefer beta's like Matt in Flat out Love. When I do like an Alpha, I don't like them controling. Showing their Alpha to other men, and snarky. Like Raffe in Angelfall, or Jonah from Jellicoe Road.

But when I look through my 'my lovers' GR shelf, most of my favorite YA male leads tend to fall in the middle, like Tom from Piper's Son/Saving Francesca or Ettiene from Anna & the French Kiss.

message 3559: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Leea and Wendy I agree. I alaso remember reading that the stats of abusive relationships in high school is much higher than in adults -- and jealousy is a huge component. So I'd hate to see that ... romanticizied? I had several very jealous boyfriends in high school and it thrilled me at the time, so dumb. It just ended up estranging me from my best friend -- who is a guy. LOL about marrying your male friend. :) Wendy, perfectly put. I think I wrote somewhere else in this thread about why (and Leea predicted it) Mountain Man wouldn't work for me, alpha to me is being confident strong and not afraid to take charge and make decisions and be a leader, but it also involves (for me) a recognition of other peole's ideas and opinions and does not just run over them. That to me is a great leader, supervisor and strong partner.

message 3560: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) LOL, like Jamie! The perfect Alpha man.

I'll admit that the darker side of me gets chills when a man in an adult book is a darker than I would want realistically (Barrons, ha). But I don't like seeing that in teen books. Perhaps because I feel like teens are still being molded into who they're going to be as an adult and it shouldn't be to emulate a character who's controlled by her boyfriend.

message 3561: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Yup exactly. Jaimie is a great example. :) And when he makes dumb choices and goes over the top (like with Roger) he pays desparately for that.

I do like the darker side too, don right -- like with Barrons.

message 3562: by Leea (new)

Leea Yeah, Jamie would never tell Claire 'what to do' he trusts that she'll make her own decision and yes he may have to end up saving her in the end but... haha!

I should say that Angel in the Forever Mine, is not that controling about her life but something is rubbing me the wrong way. I've still got 40% of the book left and hope to finish today because I want to read Breathe (Colorado Mountain, #4) by Kristen Ashley - an adult alpha male. haha! I think I may have issues... just saying.

That's exactly how I see it too. And I like it when the women are not knee-jerk dopes that go left when the man says right (even if the man has reasons to say so.)

message 3564: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Okay, odd but some peole are finding these, free for download on GR right n ow are these two books:

Pandemonium (Delirium, #2) by Lauren Oliver Halfway to the Grave (Night Huntress, #1) by Jeaniene Frost

Sounds like we would all be going after the same guy, lol!

message 3565: by D.G. (last edited Jul 25, 2012 08:23AM) (new)

D.G. That looks fishy...why would Pandemomium (who came out less than 6 months ago) be free for download through GR?

message 3566: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) I just downloaded it -- I agree it is fishy.

A day for free stuff, audible just sent me a christmas gift in july and one of the options was a historical non fiction novel about Blackhawk. This likely doesn't interest most people, but he was the leader of the Sauk tribe which lived basically where my hometown is. We call my hometown the "Sauk Valley" and many things bear the name of Sauk or Blackhawk, so I am excited to learn about his life (it appears to be written by him) -- and it was free from audible! Black Hawk AN AUTOBIOGRAPHY by Black Hawk

message 3567: by D.G. (new)

D.G. I wouldn't be surprised if people are uploading pirated versions.

I loved Pandemonium. It was such a great book.

Oh I thought that was monitored and GR did it officially? That is an assumption though, I hope that is not the case.

i agree with u it is fishy but mb the authors authorized it I mean GR are very proper when it comes to things like this. :)

And Pan was really great!! lol :)

message 3571: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Is it appropriate for a 12 year old -- keeping in mind I don't let her read books that have sex in them?

SANDRA (smilleysandy) | 88 comments Regina wrote: "Is it appropriate for a 12 year old -- keeping in mind I don't let her read books that have sex in them?"

what book? Pan, I think so there wasn't sex involved its mostly about the emotions it brings out of u!!!

Marcella (marcella6) | 886 comments Regina wrote: "Is it appropriate for a 12 year old -- keeping in mind I don't let her read books that have sex in them?"

Pan is YA and there was no sex. Kissing, yes, but sex no. It is a really great book.

message 3574: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Thank you! She really liked the first in the series.

message 3575: by D.G. (last edited Jul 25, 2012 09:29AM) (new)

D.G. I think any GR librarian can upload ebooks and the requirements to be a librarian are very lax.

Given how many problems GR is having in the last few months I wonder how closely they are monitoring everything.

I sent them a line just in case. If the authors authorize free downloads of their books, they should note it somewhere but I can tell you they aren't free on Amazon.

message 3576: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) DG thank you for doing that. I assumed it was official and it had to be more than just a librarian that did it.

message 3577: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 1216 comments Wow, that's crazy how it's free! You're right, DG...there's a lot of stuff goodreads needs to work out.

message 3578: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 1216 comments I finished Forever Mine (The Moreno Brothers, #1) by Elizabeth Reyes and thought it was ok. The possessiveness wasn't so bad in this book to me. I found it to be on the tame side.

I like Alpha males myself but there are just some that rub me the wrong way. Like, Beautiful Disaster. I did not like the guy in this book at all. He was more psycho to me than anything.

message 3579: by D.G. (new)

D.G. You would think so! But once I became a librarian I realized how easy it was to upload ebooks.

I should probably post about it in the GR librarian group. Let me do that now.

message 3580: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) I have never done it as a Libriran, I never thought about it. I just posted the question in the SOS group .....

message 3581: by D.G. (new)

D.G. Hey Regina - I know you downloaded one of the books. Can you please let me know if it's the complete book? Maybe it's just an excerpt?

message 3582: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 1216 comments Can a librarian upload a photo for a book cover?

message 3583: by Regina (last edited Jul 25, 2012 10:40AM) (new)

Regina (reginar) Some of those buttons say "download excerpt", this one said download book. I just opened it on my iphone in Stanza and it says there are 219 pages. It looks like the last page is the end - -and then it has credits and other published works after that. HTH.

message 3584: by D.G. (new)

D.G. I downloaded one and it seemed like a complete book as well. I posted in the Feedback group so we should hear about it shortly. I also checked on the author's websites and there was no mention of those books being free - I figure that if they were giving away books, they should mention it there.

Yes, Kay - a librarian can upload book covers, add editions and do general edits. I do it all the time.

message 3585: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Yup, that is what I do too. Thanks DG -- I actually emailed the author. :)

I am guessing the same is true with the Night Huntress novel.

message 3586: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 1216 comments Can one of you update a new bookcover for me?

This is OT but I find this amusing....Bella cheated on Edward: http://tmz.me/MHHXJv

Regina (reginar) Sure Kay -- send the info.

Also, it is super easy to become a librarian.

message 3597: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) So much older than her! I haven't seen a picture of the director, but woah.
