Have fun! We go to at least 2-3 River Cats Games a month and more during the summer. We love Baseball :)

I guess I better represent the West Coast. We're Giants Fans! We don't go to many games now but when I was a kid my family had season tickets and it was so fun!

Yeah, it all left a sour taste in my mouth. It really sucks and I keep contemplating lowering my reviews.

Kay (calikay) | 1216 comments I hardly had time to read on this vacay. We made a last minute decision and went to Disneyland yesterday :) So, today we chilled a bit at the pool and hung around the resort. We're heading out to legoland tomorrow.

So, I finally finished Empress of the Seven Hills (Rome, #3) by Kate Quinn . I may have to give up on this author. Her last two books didn't have the spark that Mistress of Rome (Rome, #1) by Kate Quinn had :(

message 2254: by Leea (new)

Leea Finished Out of Control (Troubleshooters, #4) by Suzanne Brockmann and I loved it! I was non stop action, romance, heartwrenching WWII story and hot SEALs. Win win!

Now i'm going to start The Storyteller by Antonia Michaelis with Carina. I can't wait to read it!

message 2255: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Leea we had season tickets for the Cubs when I was a kid. :) Kelly that is great your name came up for season tickets! We put out name on a list maybe 8 yrs ago and still haven't gotten any. But that was when we only had 2 kids. Even if it comes up we couldn't take our request now!

message 2256: by D.G. (last edited Jun 07, 2012 05:46AM) (new)

D.G. Going to the ball park is so freaking expensive! We go maybe once or twice a year and sometimes I go with people from the office.

The last time we went, they were teasing me because I could identify opposing players by their bodies (we were way up in the rafters so we couldn't see the names very well.) What can I say...Justin Morneau looks good in that uniform!

message 2257: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) That is why we stopped. We spent sooooo much money last night.

message 2258: by D.G. (new)

D.G. Oh my God! I just saw the audiobook for Redshirts A Novel with Three Codas by John Scalzi just came out and is narrated by Wil Wheaton (which I loved in Ready Player One.) I think I'll have to get that audio.

message 2259: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) None of my libraries have that one DG, but I will keep an eye out for it. I have been wanting to try Scalzi for awhile.

And it is a good thing to know the players!! My life has been pretty busy the past few years so I no longer know the players, hopefully it will calm down in a few years and I can pay more attention. For a long time our favorite player was one of the most famous DR players ever - - Sammy Sosa. He has done so much good with his fame and money for DR (or so it appears from the public appearances). Our next door neighbor is a former Padres and Brewers player. But he retired and is now going to school to be a college coach (I think). Carlos Zambrano (former Cubs pitcher - for awhile I was a fan before he got out of hand), he used to live 10 blocks away form me and we had the same pediatrician, lol. But I never ever saw him, just heard rumors about him.

message 2260: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) So I just started After The Virus by Meghan Ciana Doidge and I am really like it. It is a romance based in a post-apoc/zombie world. It is really good so far, I am about 15% in.

I am liking Dawn on a Distant Shore (Wilderness, #2) by Sara Donati so much more this time around. I am finally past the part I had read up to when I dnfed it 2 years ago.

Leea D.G. ~Shameless Hussy~ wrote: "Going to the ball park is so freaking expensive! "

Yes it is!

That's why we only go to our minor league team here. I also try to go on Kids nights or $1 nights but most of the time we take food with us.

Our 4 year old has yet to sit through a whole game so taking him to a Giants game and paying those prices would just be a waste.

Leea Regina wrote: "That is why we stopped. We spent sooooo much money last night."

I bet the kids had a blast! Mine always want a hat or shirt and that where we really end up spending money. We've started letting them get a pin for their hats but not every time.

message 2263: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) The food is what did it for us!! The Sox were giving out free and really nice real wooden bats to all the kids there from a local league, so at least we went home with that (and overfull tummies). The Sox have always had issues keeping a full park compared to the Cubs, so they are really good at entertainment. There is fireworks at the start when introducing the lineup and then fireworks every time and if the Sox hit a home run, and then fireworks after the game. Plus the food is fantastic, mexican, cuban, chinese, italian, and typical american ballpark. Cubs/Wrigley field is just typical american ballpark.

DG, I had some local friends who went to a Mets game and a Yankees game some years back. They were Cubs fans and often went to both Cubs and Sox games in Chicago. They were astounded at how much more expensive it was at Mets and Yankees games, so I am wondering if my expensive is less than your expensive. :)

minor league is a great option. We have yet to check ours out. What we really want to do is go to a Women's pro softball game. http://chicagobandits.com/home/ My oldest is a really good softball player and my husband loves watching college women's softball, so I think it would be fun.

I couldn't find it either so I ended up buying it. The premise is just too funny for words and I've been waiting for it with baited breath.

My husband follows baseball a lot - he's the kind of person who knows players' statistics by heart (!!) - so he tells me what's going on. We probably have a conversation about baseball most days of the week.

message 2266: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) DG my husband used to be like that too -- until he got very broken hearted after a Cubs season and had to emotionally take a break, lol. But the Cubs will do that to its fans. :D I used to gain so much knowledge about that and it was great at client meetings with men! Is your husband a Mets fan too?

He still talks my year off about soccer and is constantly pausing plays/goals and calling all of us in to watch them. He does this with baseball, but with less intensity than in the past.

Oh, that sounds yummy! We usually get a salad and split it up in the Founders Club because they have the best turkey, it's so good! Then of course the boys don't eat all their hot dogs so we can't let the food go to waste ;)

There is nothing like a ballpark hot dog!

Pictures of our ballpark
(view spoiler)

D.G, I'm so jealous. I've always wanted to go to NY (there was a time I wanted to move there) and then to see a NY baseball game - that's awesome!!

message 2268: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Those pictures are so sweet!

I can't believe how good you both are and get a salad at the ballpark!

message 2269: by D.G. (new)

D.G. LOL, your poor husband! I feel for him, after the Mets had so many terrible years in a row I'm not that invested in them and just cheer from whomever is doing better. :)

My husband is technically a Yankees fan but he really follows the whole sport. If you ask him...how are Joey Votto (Reds), Justin Verlander (Tigers), Hanley Ramirez (Marlins) doing, he would you their stats whether they are hurt or not, etc. He's one of those maddening people who have a really good memory and can remember almost everything he reads.

message 2270: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Isn't Jon Stewart a Mets fan? Back when I was watching TV I would enjoy his comments about the Mets. :) It sounds like your husband is in a healthier place sportswise, lol.

I wish I had his talent!

message 2271: by Leea (new)

Leea It's only because we go so much and it's a really good salad. Trust me, i'm an eater :) I also get nachos but that stand is only open on the weekends. We get beer :).

Our seats are surrounded by other season ticket holders who've also had the seats since the building of the stadium (thus why they are called founders and have special access to different clubs). They love our boys and thankfully don't get upset if they move around a little.

We might be going to the US Open here next week. My husband wants to take the kids but I don't think they would enjoy watching people Golf all day. lol! I'm not sure if i'll be able to watch men Golf all day. I have never gone to the US Open, but Jim goes with this company and takes clients.

I missed this post. :)

Did they come after the new ballparks were open? Because things are even more expensive now. If you are not willing to pay over $500, you can't seat behind Home Plate at Yankee Stadium.

That's a great idea! Plus it's always nice to have players your girls can look up to. I played softball forever and was a pitcher. I would have loved to have seen a women's softball game.

message 2274: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Haha, I couldn't watch golf!

I had a wonderful Dos Equis with lime at the park yesterday. I really wanted a 2nd, but the line was too long and of course they only bring MGD and Miller Lite around in the stands. :)

I think people like to see kids at the stadium!

I am not sure .... but for example, my Dos Equis last night cost $7.75, the popcorn $5.50 (a bucket), a small drink $5 and the nachos $5.00. (My husband bought the other food). They had traditional Mexican elote -- prepared with mayo and pepper, but that line was too long and I never saw the price.

I don't play anymore.

Had Dos Equis with lime last night with dinner, we grilled Chicken Adobo that I bought already marinated from Costco. It was so good.

$7.75... Holy Crap!! Well I did pay $8.50 for a beer, some micro brew at the ballpark last time. Then I went and got a coors light the next time. lol!

message 2277: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Sounds delicious Leea! Man I love Coscto.

Yeah, no kidding. But darnit I wanted it!

message 2278: by Leea (new)

Leea Mexican elote? I don't know what that is?

Mexican food is my favorite food :) My husband took me to breakfast yesterday and we hit our favorite hole in the wall joint. In the worst part of town, but it's the best food and the restaurant was there before it was a bad part of town. I had Huevos Rancheros with Chile Verde and Jim got Chilaquiles (Not spelling that right, sorry) OMG!! I ate too much and was too full for lunch. Homemade tortillas and the hotest pico de gallo.

Now i'm hungry lol!

They had kinds of new stuff when I went last week. I love buying artichokes there because we eat the whole bad (4) in one sitting, even the kids go crazy for them. I can't get out of there without a full cart and spending too much.

message 2280: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Elote is one of the Mexican words for corn. Elote is typicall fixed either on the cob or in a bowl and is prepared like this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elote

http://oneperfectbite.blogspot.com/20...

It is how we eat corn on the cob in my family. :)

Mexican food is my default too, I tease my husband that this is why I married him. :) Homemade tortillas are the absolute best. There is a place nearby us that does handmade tortillas de maiz (corn) and has amazing carnitas and al pastor. Nothing light though. :)

When I actually live in Mexico though I always lose weight since they use so much less dairy than we do here in the US and the portions are smaller.

No kidding. We spend way too much -- at least we get some back at the end of the year from the executive membership though. That is always nice!

Yeah, that corn is the best. I guess I didn't know the name of it.

I would sell my soul for some Carnitas on corn tortillas with just onion and cilantro. That's it i'm going to the mexican market today. haha!

message 2283: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Yumm, have fun!

Cilantro makes everything yummy. I love that plant/spice.

message 2284: by D.G. (new)

D.G. Oh man! You guys make me want to eat some Mexican food for lunch and I've been so good eating salad this week.

message 2285: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) I have been really bad this past week - ever since my niece's high school grad party -- just a few bad food dishes pushed me over that cliff.

message 2286: by D.G. (new)

D.G. Well, I went to a Mexican joint I knew from my days in Grad School and I had Chicken Burrito with Mole (it was good!) and horchata which I haven't had in like a million years. Now I'm soooo freaking full!

message 2287: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) I am about to go -- I had Mexican from a truck this morning - yummy authentic stuff from a guy who parks his truck without a license by my train stop and gets out of there by 8:00 am. But it was a healthy portion, so good and cheap. I may go to another mexican place for lunch. :) But off to walk for awhile, I can't seem to concentrate or work. So I am going to exercise and stretch my legs.

Man, I LOVE mole.

message 2288: by D.G. (new)

D.G. That sounds really good. The authentic Mexican trucks are in Queens (and really far from where I live). In the City, you only see the fancy trucks that are not really Mexican.

message 2289: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) And those all (presumably have licenses - the fancy ones!) Most of the good authentic trucks, not the high end fancy trucks are outside factories or in different neighborhoods. This is a unique one. This one is hidden and I only discovered b/c I came to work one day at 6:00 am, then he was gone the next day at 8:00 am. I think he bribes someone, but whatever it is yummy.

message 2290: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) But what NYC is really good at (or seemed to be when I visited for work) is having local restaurants on every block. Chicago in the financial loop area has very limited local places, most of them are corporate -- Au Bon Pain and Corner Baker on every block. My memory of NYC is a great variety. Chicago has that too, just not where the financial area is.

message 2291: by D.G. (last edited Jun 07, 2012 11:57AM) (new)

D.G. Oh yes. LOTS of good restaurants everywhere. Just recently I was walking about a few blocks from here and saw a new Ethiopian place opening up on 28th St. I also saw a Vietnamese Sandwich place a few blocks away from Curry Hill (this is the area in the City where there are tons of small Indian restaurants.) There are also like a million Thai places close by. I also know a good Cuban restaurant and this Mexican joint I visited was good too.

I can throw a rock blindfolded and hit a good place to eat but I'm really lucky in that I work in an area with businesses, shops, a College and also where people live so you have some variety in both foods and prices.

message 2292: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Man, I would love that is great!

message 2294: by Leea (new)

Leea I just heated up the left over chicken adobo and reheated rice and beans from yesterdays breakfast.

D.G, that burrito sounds SO good!! Mole, Mmmm. I would kill for some authentic mexican right now. We have a few taco trucks but honestly, i'm a little scared to eat there. Now if I lived in a big city like NY or Chicago then i'd give one a try.

I think it's funny we all had mexican for lunch because we were talking about it this morning. lol!! I'm so susceptible to suggestion when it comes to food. Hahaha!!

Kelly ~ happily oblivious | 102 comments You all are making me starving! Ballpark food, Mexican, Thai and Vietnamese. Yum! Actually, in short time, I'll be heading out to the Scooper Bowl. If you love ice cream, this is the best! Pay for a spoon and get all you can eat Ben & Jerry's, Edy's, Friendly's, and some local ice cream makers. Plus, the bonus of donating to a good cause. But seriously, I'd be there even if the money was going straight into the pockets of the ice cream makers!
