As Stephen King once said,
"Harry Potter is about confronting fears, finding inner strength and doing
what is right in the face of adversity. Twilight is about how important it
is to have a boyfriend." - Stephen King

My hoyest assessment is that Meyer got full of herself and didn't listen to or even have an editor for this book.
There was no climax to the book, there was all this build up towards the big fight and then? They just "talked it out". Really?
I hate, hate, hate the name Renesme. I think it's the dumbest name ever. Then again, only a teenager would come up with a name this stupid.
I also hated that Jacob imprinted on the baby. I found it gross.
There were other things I hated about this book but those are the highlights.

I do kinda get tired of hearing people blast authors because their books influence teens or whatever. I read a lot of different books when I was a teen and I'll be damned if I was going to take an author's book to heart like that or have their book change the way I was. I valued what my PARENTS taught me not what an author writes. Reading was and is a hobby of mine that I do for enjoyment not to be influenced by. Yes some books are powerful in what they say but I'm not going to let a book influence me if I don't agree with what they say. I don't know I guess that made me a different kind of teenager.
And nowadays teens are way more influenced by the movies, t.v shows, music and websites out there than books.

The twilight books are not great writing. I think one can enjoy a novel even if it's poorly written but after a while I think - "what's point?"

Here is a video for you to watch. It's a good insight into the bad influence these stories can be to impressionable young adults.

Hear me out.
Bella is a new girl in this new dangerous world. She can't fight, she is scared. She is useless. But she knows what she wants and will not let anyone else tell her other wise. She told Edward to fuck of when he wanted to kill their baby. She is useless and chooses the wrong guy but that is what she wants.
Katniss on the other hand can fight. but she always seems to rely on people, Peeta, Rue, Haymich. She doesn't know what she wants, Peeta, Gale, her sister? I don't know it changes every chapter. she is so cruel to people she doesn't even know. The only redeeming thing about her is at the start when she looks after family.
Also, when Bella lost what she wanted she moped like a mardy teenager. When Katniss got what she wanted? Maybe? Peeta and kids, she still was an emotional reck and couldn't deal with things what were long and gone. Bella just dealt with it and was happy with what she had.
Boom
Sorry
Not sorry.

Hear me out.

I don't like either character, but I actually can see where you're coming from. Now, I'm still not saying that Bella is a good character,I'm not saying that Katniss is really any better either.

Hear me out.

I actually have to disagree here -- again, without commenting on who IS or ISN'T a better character -- because of the themes of both of the stories.
Twilight's themes are love is the most important thing in the world, if I recall correctly. This means that the protagonists are gonna have to want something and stand by that something.
In contrast, Hunger Games is a huge commentary on how much society sucks, and how much war sucks. The thing I'm taking issue with is mostly saying that Katniss should have gotten over the Hunger Games by a certain point, and, well, statistics concerning PTSD really, really disagree with you. People who go through war without being drafted -- which is something they agree with, that they're able to rationalize -- can take a lifetime to overcome PTSD even if they're receiving proper healthcare. Katniss and Peeta do not receive proper health care, they do not have control over the fact that they were forced into a battle to the last one standing and almost died several times, and when they were finally "safe", got that safety ripped right out from under their feet -- Hunger Games isn't mainstream Realistic Fiction, but it is very, very realistic about it's characters.
SO YEAH -- I'm not dropping by to join in on loathing Twilight, but I do wanna say that it's not a good idea to compare it to the Hunger Games without taking into account a lot of subtext like themes and motifs.

To be honest, I don't like either the hunger games or twilight. There both pretty bad.
I know I just went on a rant, but it just irritates me how people act as if the hunger games and Katniss are the biggest leap in YA. There both unoriginal, plain, over used and over rated.
You say, it realistic for Katniss to be a over emotional bitch, when Effie sees two people she grows on to every year die but she doesn't have a mental illness to have reason for breaking down so she has to deal. But the whole book is so unrealistic, it would be okay of all of it was unrealistic. But no, you have to have this unrealistic world and story but have these bland but 'realistic' characters.
The whole concept is terrible and executed poorly.

This isn't the "I hate Hunger Games" thread, you can go there if you want to complain about Hunger Games. I thought you might not have realized how widespread PTSD and other illnesses are, or how much it might impact someone's life, and that maybe, if you knew that, you might understand why Bella and Katniss are not really characters you can compare. I did not agree or disagree with your opinion.
And if you honestly think someone knowing a pair of kids for two weeks and then watching them die for the lulz is worse than being one of those two kids, not just once, but twice, you should probably reevaluate your opinion a little.
The point remains: the themes in Twilight are "Love is the most important thing in the world." In contrast, the themes for the Hunger Games revolve around "War is terrible." It's natural for characters involved with these themes to be very, very different from each other.
Also, it's possible for a girl to want something other than a boy, y'know? Bella wants a boy; Katniss wants to survive. They both fight for what they want, Katniss just has a harder struggle. Stop using one to put down the other, especially if you don't even like that one.

I can tell you went on a bit of a rant about the Metal illness note I made, well that's another rant for another day.
I thought that perhaps you could have read in between the lines about what I was getting it. But at last no. You couldn't.
So ill point it out for you
I was comparing Bella and Katniss together for everyone says Bella is useless whereas Katniss is strong.
My point was that Katniss isn't that strong. She can't control her emotions when it comes down to it. Peeta can, he doesn't freak out when the time doesn't call for it. Gale doesn't. Prim fucking doesn't. Effie doesn't. Haymich doesn't, he is normally too drunk to. It's just Katniss. That is what I was trying to get at.
Another point was Bella, in comparison, is stronger than people give her credit. She wines because she has some metal illness I don't really care about. She will fight and put her life on the line for what she wants, in a place were she could live or die.
Now, I don't care about your butt hurt. So sit down and deal. Or walk away. I don't care. Do either.
