Todd | 37 comments This topic comes about because of the what are we drinking segment of the podcast. I was wondering if anyone had any recipes for some drinks found in your favourite novels or favorite movies etc. Reading The Lies if Locke Lamora the alchemical hybrids sound cool. But my vote will always go for the Pan Galactic Gargle Blaster as the best description of a drink.

“The Hitch-Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy also mentions alcohol. It says that the best drink in existence is the Pan Galactic Gargle Blaster, the effect of which is like having your brains smashed out with a slice of lemon wrapped round a large gold brick.” ― Douglas Adams, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.

Tranya!

Joe Informatico (joeinformatico) | 888 comments I remember in Guy Gavriel Kay's Tigana there was blue wine that smoked. No mention of the recipe, though.

In one of the non-Weis & Hickman Dragonlance books, Caramon shared the recipe for a hangover cure. I think it was called the Fighter's Friend or something like that. I read it so long ago I can't remember.

I hope you will relish it as much as I do.

terpkristin | 4407 comments Not exactly SFF drinks, but I've come across various drink recipes for video games:
-Someone made a drink called "The Triforce" for Zelda, Link, and Gannon. It was equal parts Dark Rum (Gannon), Goldschlager (Zelda I think, but maybe Link), and 99 Bananas (Link I think, but maybe Zelda). It was pretty disgusting.
-The Drunken Moogle has drinkware and recipes related to all kinds of video games.
-Geekosystem picked up TDM's "Pokemon Starter" cocktails: http://www.geekosystem.com/evolving-p...

Yeah...I'm a nerd.

Way to sex that one up.

They used to sell/serve it Star Trek The Experience in Vegas. They had some fun and great looking drinks at Quark's Bar there: http://uglycouchshow.com/quarks-bar-d...

I wanted to eat there every time I was in Vegas, but (a) had no sci-fi fans with me, or (b) had people who didn't want to pay for an over-priced burger with a fancy name. Whatever. When else are you going to get the chance? And now it's gone forever.

Aethelberga | 35 comments It's not alcoholic, but a lot of people like Klah from the Pern novels.

Random (rand0m1s) I swear I have obsessed about a Cinnamon Scald (I believe that was the name) ever since I read The Lies of Locke Lamora 2 years ago.

Todd | 37 comments Back in 2001 when I was backpacking through the U.S. The exhibit was awesome all the actors stayed in character all through. Brilliant. I had lunch in Quarks bar and tried a Warp Core Breach which was a huge punch bowl cocktail that had dry ice in it that made the drink smoke like the old time Dr Jekyll Drinks. The drink was horrible reminding me of the Aussie cough mixture called Benadryl. Not sure the U.S. equivalent. But it was nasty...for the first few sips...then it became remarkably smooth and refined and I became urbane and sofisticated. Vegas was brilliant that day! I bought a six pack of Romulan Ale from the gift shop for a Star Trek mate back home and we shared it some years later. It gave us Blue Teeth and has some gastrointestinal consequences the next day...but that's Equadorian novelty beer for you.

That's cool, I'm going to try the Sereni-tea.

Tacuazin | 22 comments I am surprised nobody mentioned the well-reputed Klatchian coffee.
This is a quote from Terry Pratchett's Moving Pictures:
"It is said that the book was written in one day after Achmed drank too much of the strange thick Klatchian coffee which doesn’t just sober you up, but takes you through sobriety and out the other side, so that you glimpse the real universe beyond the clouds of warm self-delusion that sapient life usually generates around itself to stop it turning into a nutcake".

That sounds pretty good and I have all the ingredients on hand. May have to try it this afternoon.

Todd | 37 comments I found the photo of my mate and I drinking the Romulan Ale. I'm the guy on the left. I've posted it in the photo section...that I didn't know existed :-)

kvon | 563 comments Pat Murphy in Adventures in Time and Space with Max Merriwell has a character asking for a Flaming Rum Monkey in hopes of inspiring a bartender to create her fictitious drink. Pat put the recipe on page 178--it includes brown sugar and cinnamon and cloves, coconut syrup, creme de cacao and rum. And fire. I tried to make one once but couldn't find the right coconut; the ignition was still fun.
