Unfortunately the schedule changed even while I was at BEA. I really wanted to get Henry Rollins autograph but he couldn't go either last year last minute ;(

yeah I remember there was a couple of romance authors who even as of that morning the booth was handing out flyers for, who cancelled late so I was left sobbing in the proverbial corner in despair.

LOL. Me too, Lexie, me too.

I saw the book, but I didn't know it was by a director! That's pretty cool :D

everyone should be able to see the PW Children's/YA Galley Grab post now: http://www.publishersweekly.com/pw/by...

Miriam | 33 comments Just wondering -- of the ticketed authors, which ones do you think will be the most popular? Which ones would you want the most??

Megan wrote: "I'm going to try and get a ticket for R.L. Stine, Carol, and Mary Higgins Clark.

I think those three along with John Green and Molly Ringwald will be pretty popular."

I really don't care about any of the ticketed authors this year. I may, if I feel like waking up early, go get one for RL Stine.

message 60: by Lexie (new)

Lexie (poisonedrationality) | 657 comments Mod
oh I can almost guarantee both RL Stine and John Green will go quicker than you can blink. If previous years are any indication at least.

Meh this year's crop isn't of interest to me except for RL Stine, but even that's for a kid I watch, not so much for me (maybe if it was a Fear Street novel and not Goosebumps?)

message 61: by Miriam (new)

Miriam | 33 comments The reason I asked about ticked authors is because I have a conference session on Wednesday morning from 9:00 - 10:30, but there are three books I'd like to pick up during that time period. I have the Avid Readers Pass, so I can get 4 tickets each day in advance, as well as one "go-to-the-front-of-the-line" pass. I'd gladly make a trade if someone wants a ticket (doesn't matter which day) or pass if you'd grab me one of my books. Anyone interested?

message 62: by Jessica | (new)

Jessica | The Drowned Page (thedrownedpage) | 119 comments Oh my, is the pass really 4 tickets A DAY?! I thought it was at first, but then I figured I read it wrong when the list came out. I'm only using one of my tickets on one day (unless they add more authors to that ticketed list), so if someone doesn't have tickets and would like one (or more) let me know!

Bailey (IB Book Blogging) | 9 comments I'm really interested in one ticket so I can get a signed RL Stine book for a 12 year old that adores his books. :)

message 64: by ILoveBooks (new)

ILoveBooks | 39 comments @Jessica, I might love them if you really don't want them...maybe I can give you books for them at BEA if you didn't get one you really wanted and I did

message 65: by Jessica | (new)

Jessica | The Drowned Page (thedrownedpage) | 119 comments I made another topic called Ticketed Authors, if you want to claim my tickets go read it :) I'll try to keep it as updated as possible.

Does anyone know how to request these tickets in advance? or when we will be able to?

message 66: by Miriam (new)

Miriam | 33 comments Jessica --
If you're have a gold or platinum pass (or whatever they're calling it this year), you can give the BEA registration line a call and let them know which tickets you want. They'll be waiting for you at the registration desk when you check in.

message 67: by Jessica | (new)

Jessica | The Drowned Page (thedrownedpage) | 119 comments Thanks Miriam, I actually just got the email this morning about doing it online (it took me forever to find it since all it did was tell me to log in with no instructions) But I'm good now :)

@Bailey - If you want the RL Stine ticket message me & let me know :)

@Krystal - message me with which authors you'd like and I'll let you know if I can still get tickets for those ones :)

message 68: by Miriam (new)

Miriam | 33 comments Jessica,
You got an e-mail? I found out about the tickets by calling. I guess i'd better make sure i'm on the e-mail list too! Thanks for posting--

message 69: by Jessica | (new)

Jessica | The Drowned Page (thedrownedpage) | 119 comments Yea, the email just said the list was up and I could go claim them and that the deadline is 5/25. It's on the BEA Dashboard under the extras where it says what pass you have you can just click "edit" next to it, and it'll bring up a checklist of the ticketed authors that you can choose from & hit submit :)

message 70: by Kassiah (new)

Kassiah | 3 comments Not sure if this is the right place to post this, but should I plan to be able to get through more than one line in an hour? Lauren Oliver, Marie Lu, and Amy Garvey are all at 2:00 on Tuesday. Can I get to all of them? I need a clone!!!

Haha, you may be able to... Depends on your place in line

message 72: by Jessica | (new)

Jessica | The Drowned Page (thedrownedpage) | 119 comments I've noticed that a lot of the ones at the same time are at the same booth (or close to the same number), can we just go right down the line of authors at the booth or is it like 3 different lines even if they're at the same booth?

message 73: by Lexie (new)

Lexie (poisonedrationality) | 657 comments Mod
That depends on the booth actually Jessica. Some try to have individual lines for each author so you have to line up separately (so Author 1 front of line, go to the end of Author 2, so forth) while others do it Assembly Line style.

Harlequin attempts the former, but it quickly becoms the latter because of lack of watchfulness :shrugs:

message 74: by Jessica | (new)

Jessica | The Drowned Page (thedrownedpage) | 119 comments Of course Harlequin would be the ones to try the separate lines I'm pretty sure it's their booth that has like 5 authors lined up that I want to see lol. I think Harper is another one that did it too though, I still have to fine tune my spreadsheets, I can't figure out what way I want to look at them so I can see everything that overlaps. :\

message 75: by Lexie (new)

Lexie (poisonedrationality) | 657 comments Mod
maybe like conventions do it? Do a bar graph maybe--the location down the sides, the times up top and then a box that crosses between the times with what you want to attend?

message 76: by Miriam (new)

Miriam | 33 comments Not sure where to post this request --

I need a badge for my cousin on Thursday. If anyone is going home on Wednesday, could I possibly use your badge? In return, I'd gladly pick up books for you on Thursday and send them to you when I get home!

You can either post replies or e-mail me.

THANKS!

message 77: by Lexie (new)

Lexie (poisonedrationality) | 657 comments Mod
Miriam, not to sound preachy, but that's not a great idea. If for any reason your cousin is flagged that's trouble for you, her and for the blogger who lends you their badge. With Thursday being the Power Reader Day I have a feeling they'll be stricter about checking as well plus they're already looking for ways to point fingers at bloggers for inappropriate behavior.

message 78: by Miriam (new)

Miriam | 33 comments Lexie,
I've been going to BEA for 20+ years (I'm a bookseller) and have traded badges in one way or another almost every year. Security checks for the existence of badges, not to match IDs to badges. Often times a company will purchase a certain number of badges and rotate employees on those badges each day.

Certainly noone should do anything that makes her uncomfortable. Out of curiosity, though, why do you think bloggers will be targeted for behavior issues?

message 79: by Lexie (new)

Lexie (poisonedrationality) | 657 comments Mod
Its less targeting and more they are already on watch from some exploits last year. A handful of bloggers acted rashly and as they say it takes one bad apple to ruin the bunch.

The rep at ReedExpo was telling me during NYCC last year that they've been having a problem regulating the 'new media' as they're dubbed because they tend to be younger, more fan based and less educated (though I think she meant less professional as well).

Ah I merely warned you because some bloggers did get in trouble last year for basically doing that. I don't know if there was more in connection with that, but I didn't want you to get into trouble unduly for trying to help your cousin.

message 80: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca | 21 comments Some companies/stores have publicly offered the codes to buy a power readers pass for Thursday, I suggest looking into that.

message 81: by Miriam (new)

Miriam | 33 comments Lexie & Rebecca--

Thanks for the heads up and idea. I forgot about the power readers on Thursday. Since my business should be done by Wednesday afternoon, I think maybe I'll skip the conference on Thursday and go shopping instead!

Lexie - Does that mean the Tables are in the autographing area as opposed to In Booth Signing?

message 83: by Lexie (new)

Lexie (poisonedrationality) | 657 comments Mod
@Stephanie - yeah, I'm assuming they'll fix it before the actual event, but booths don't go that low. They go by the tens and the lowest booth I remember seeing (in what was the Foreign Rights area last year, I'm not sure what is it this year) was 660, but everything under about 2000 held very little interest for me :shrugs:

Stephanie (Stephs Stacks) (stephsstacks) | 108 comments @ Lexie Thanks for the heads up. Sometimes the deeper I dig in to try to get organized, the more confused I get! I'm sure it will make more sense once I get there, but, man, BEA could have organized some of this a little better.

I decided to add an Author Breakfast after I had already registered and it was like trying to answer the riddle of the Sphynx! I finally called and a very friendly person who added them for me.

Thank you for all of your helpful tips and advice on the boards and on your blog. My trip will definitely be easier and more organized thanks to you!

Lisa | 14 comments Anyone know why Deborah Harkness isn't on the BEA schedule when she herself has said she'll be there?

message 89: by Lexie (last edited May 31, 2012 09:17PM) (new)

Lexie (poisonedrationality) | 657 comments Mod
Did she say she's signing (because I don't see her on the schedule for her publisher, though I'm having trouble finding the Penguin List anyhow) or does she mean she'll be going there and just hanging around?

Sorry I went to her twitter feed and found this:
"6/5 5:30PM Jake Morrissey moderates discussion Deborah Harkness, SHADOW OF NIGHT & Laura Moriarty, THE CHAPERONE Algonquin Hotel"

Maybe this is part of what she meant?

message 90: by Lisa (new)

Lisa | 14 comments this was most recent off DH's facebook-

Deborah Harkness shared a link.

May 12.

NEW APPEARANCE DATES: I promised I'd keep you updated on all the additions to my schedule, so here are three for you to file away for future reference. I don't have the bandwidth to add them to the EVENTS tab until next week, but wanted to let you know ASAP.

5 June 2012: Book Expo America, NYC. Booth signing, 3:30-5:00. PLEASE NOTE: you must be attending BEA to come to the signing.

DH had also posted about being at BEA once or twice prior to this last time I saw in May

message 91: by Lisa (new)

Lisa | 14 comments But if she's doing a discussion too, Im there!

message 92: by Lisa (new)

Lisa | 14 comments And on her publisher's site it says June 6 and on DH's site it isn't even listed! I'm asking her on facebook.

Deborah Harkness commented on her Wall post.
Deborah Harkness wrote: "Hi, Lisa. I'm sorry for any confusion. The details have changed a number of times. According to my latest schedule (today's) I am signing books in the Penguin Booth at BEA on Tuesday, 5 June, between 10 and 11 AM.
