I'm actually glad I didn't have to do it for school, because I despise assigned book assignments. I am a huge reader, and it almost physically hurts me to hear people hating on good books so much just because they were for a school project, but I can't blame them. When it becomes mandatory and not at your own comfortable pace, it just sucks all the enjoyment out of it.
Since, as I mentioned earlier, I did get to read this outside of school work and what not, I actually thoroughly enjoyed this book. It gave me a great new perspective on WW2 that I really appreciated.

In HS, we never had to read it as a book review but I chose this to review personally as a teacher's pet kind of thing.
In college, we were asked to read it as English majors...
Back when I still taught English I include this in discussion and assign it to one of the top ten in every class I had.

But it is not for the narrow minded folks. You really had to put yourself in her shoes to understand the gravity of her situation and why she thought of the stuff that practically made her controversial.
I heard there's a better and an "unedited" version which showed more of the Elektra complex. Haven't read that but I plan to once I get a copy or find it online. :)

My sentiments exactly. I probably would've enjoyed it much more if it hadn't been a school assignment. Assigning reading is much like forcing good food down your throat--you just don't enjoy it as much.

I read it when I was in 6th grade.
I thought it was OK, but It probably was a little advanced for me then.

Very nice."
My sister loved it too but I didn't really pay attention to it because my teacher was making us read it so that made me lose interest.

Great classic and to admit it, a lot funnier than Anne Frank's diary.

Anne Frank's diary is written by a thirteen year old girl in the middle of a world war. she had to hide from Nazis who wanted her dead because of her religion and she had to grow up with all those adults watching over her. yes, this is the perfect setting for writing a comedy!

Yeah I know. How ironic.
Both books, have their pro's and also con's you've got to admit. So IMO I think both books are wonderful and special in their own little ways.

I mean, boring?
Noooo.

Didn't love it in the beginning, but loved it at the end..

I want to read To Kill A Mockingbird. Is it good?

volgens mij leest meer dan de helft van Nederland dit boek voor school. De andere helft leest het omdat ze in Nederland ondergedoken heeft gezeten (en iedereen het er over heeft). maar inderdaad een heel mooi boek!

I think you would like To Kill a Mockingbird, it's a really beautiful book. The film is a masterpiece as well.

That's patently false. Ballpoint pens were around and popular in Europe as early as the 1930s.
You should read The Diary of Anne Frank: The Critical Edition: http://amzn.to/PEouYu
"This valuable addition to the literature of the Holocaust assembles for the first time the three known versions of Frank's diary--the original, a self-edited version of same, and yet another edited by her father. It also contains a variety of related studies and reports, e.g., handwriting and paper analyses, new documentation regarding the Frank family's arrest, and a wealth of information about the diary's troubled publication history. Prepared under the auspices of the Netherlands State Institute for War Documentation, this authoritative volume will silence forever those who have denied the diary's authenticity. It honors and enriches a story that has inspired most of the civilized world for over 40 years. Mandatory for all but the smallest libraries."
