Yes, i read it in school and by myself three times because i love the story just not the Nazis.

Diaries are always interesting even if they do not cover such emotive times as Anne Frank's. This one gets to us because it is written by a young teenager just starting out on life then ..... Say no more!

This book has been assigned for decades; it’s haunting because you know how it ends before you begin. I was fortunate enough to tour Anne Frank's house in Amsterdam a few years back. Decades later you can still feel the panic, despair and even hope.
I read this book for school a few weeks ago and I truly wish I hadn't. Its very-very-very uncool. I hate it and would definitely rate it 15+.
I read it in school, saw the video and had discussions on it. I think this is a really great book and a must read for anyone in school. It is a major eye opener for people who live in the "closed" life and don't really know what has happened or what can happen when just 1 person puts their thoughts and dreams to a test for reality, whether good or bad.
Yes I had to read it, but it was my 4th time reading it, so it was very boring because I had read it so many times before.
Looks like all those forced to read this at school have pretty inane and un educated remarks to make about this book .... not much humanity or empathy coming through , bet these peoplecRecall undervthecagevof 30!

I read this book in 8th grade for my English class, and I actually really liked it! Others just thought that it was boring and badly written. (but it's just her diary!!!)

I read it in school... maybe because i read it in school i thought is boring.. but i should gave it another try... because either way the story is amazing.

I read it for research to write a report about the Holocaust, but it wasn't required.
I read it because I wanted to know details abt her life. I would say the book is not as sad as her own story, she keep it together as long as she could and being so young, I like it very much. I can't say it change my life, but help a lot to make changes on my behavior and preferences at that time. FYI : I read it as a teenager for the first time.
Read it in middle school. I now teach middle school social studies and I believe our students read it in 6th grade in their English class. I absolutely loved the book and even pursued more information about her story, reading "Tales from the Secret Annex" too.
Yep can't remember when though - it was so long ago - was tempted to buy it when I visited the Anne Frank house in Amsterdam though
I did read this book several times when I was in fourth grade. Now that I'm moving on to seventh grade, I read this book several weeks ago. It always made me tear up because even though Anne was so jolly with writing, I really wanted to remind her that she's going to be caught by the Nazis soon. The treatment she received from her mother and Margot stung me. You know the part where the bicycle and her mother and Margot laughed at her? Yeah.... I love Otto Frank!!!! Best Father in the Whole Wide World. Why? Because he gave her the diary as a birthday present! ;(

i read it when i was in school, but thats been a while back...just got done reading the girl in the attic and watching the movie...really good i may say.....
I read a a 4th grade version of it it so good but i was scared or something but now i know that it does happen to us or a least not me, but I love it.

Didn't read that for school. Read that because I was so curious. I like to read stories about the war so I picked it up and read it.
I read it in school and then school put on a production. I thought I understood it then I went to the museum in Amsterdam: there's nothing quite like squeezing up the stairs and seeing the postcards on the wall in her bedroom/cubby hole. Very emotional. One thing that always stuck with me was also when they were sitting at dinner and the mum must have said about sending wasted food to Africa.
Battle of the Books 7th grade.
Yes, I enjoyed this book at college, will have to read it again, I will probably enjoy it more the second time round and appreciate it.
I teach 4th grade and I have my students in the high level Book Club read this book. I was unsure if it would be too sad for them the first year. Since that first group I have fournd that they are very moved by the story but accept Ann's death and feel very glad they read the book.

No, it wasn't assigned for school when I was there. It was one of those books that I cycled when I was in 7-8th grade, though, by which I mean, I finished it and went to the beginning and started over. I probably re-read it 8-9 times during that window.
I didn't have to read this for school, but I did have to read the play based off the diary when I was in the eighth grade. When I was in high school, I performed in a play called "Anne Frank and Me" and also because I have Jewish ancestry on my mom's side, I always felt obligated to read Anne Frank's diary.
I read it first just for leisure. It is so much easier to enjoy a book when youre not thinking about school in the back of your mind
yep in england it was required for us to read it in primary scholl and sometimes in secondary.i dont knw if people still read it in school but they defiantly learn the story

Thankfully there is a broad range of Holocaust novels and books available today but is there anyone who didn't have this as assigned reading? I also think with genocide around the world having more and broader options to read would be beneficial to students. Granted, the diary is a powerful book. For someone who never read it and knows little about the holocaust, it is an excellent choice to make a wrenching piece of history personal. That said, being required to read it four times? As an educator I would definitely make another option available. Probably more powerful for me, as a human being, was meeting a 92 year old Holocaust survivor.
I read it in my late teens and really enjoyed it. Will be reading it again and probably gain more insight!

I read it on my own a few years ago and I thought it was AMAZING.
