I was never actually assigned this book. And I teach now and it's not part of our curriculum. Strange because I read this over last summer and thought it was one of the more beautiful voices I've read.

I read it way back in the 1970s in school and read it again a couple times more over my life.

I was never assigned this for school, but my sister read it for a college class. When she was cleaning out her bookshelves she gave it to me, and I ended up loving it.

I read it for school and again for uni and now my daughter is reading it for school too. I've read it several times and it always makes me cry at the thought of such a terrible end to a young life.

7th grade...1974... this book opened my eyes and changed my life!

I can't remember when I read it but I don't think it was assigned. I read a lot on my own and don't remember many assigned books. Except for "The Grapes of Wrath" which I read in three days and it was assigned to be read in class for the semester. Man was I bored that semester! I pretended I was reading "The Grapes..." but I hid other books behind my notebook and never got caught- or maybe the teacher didn't really care. Anyway, I think I read Anne Frank some time before that - so it was probably not assigned and maybe around 1960. I agree with Judie- the book opened my eyes and changed my life - I lived in a safe, happy environment and it was a world of which I had no comprehension.

That's why I read it in the first place. But I'm so glad we were made to. A must-read for every teenager I think.

We didn't read it in school, I'm in Canada. I did read it on my own though and did some follow up reading to find out what happened to them all. I even recently saw one of the only pictures left of Peter. You could see why she liked him.

I just looked it up. Could see why also. Probably one of the sadder books I have ever read, not because of what she writes even but because you know what will happen. You want everything to turn out alright but you know it wont. Its awful.

Well we were studying Anne Frank and I got really interested and i rgot the book out from the library....so i didnt read it for school really.

I'm in 8th grade at the moment and my Honors Language Class and I had to read it in 2nd quarter. Now for 3rd we're reading A Midsummer Night's Dream XP.

Yes I read it in Primary School. It was quite an eye-opening story for a ten-year old.

I believe I read it for perhaps 6th grade? And again in college when studying World History. My kids read it for high school. A classic, so vivid. I've never written or read a diary with such depth to it as this book.

I did not read it for school, read it the summer I turrned 13 on my own. One of my favorite all-time books! Remember, this was just a 13 year old girl writing in her diary! Very poignant, very sad and everything she was feeling at the time. Went to Amsterdam as part of a school trip in high school and saw the hiding place and it was exactly as I imagined!

My English class just finished reading it this quarter. Oh by the way Im in 8th grade. Personally I think that we should have read it in high school because I think that arent emotionally mature enough to appreciate it. But oh well.

depends on which movie. I watched one on Netflix that was ok. I didn't really like how it mainly focused on the love story of Anne Frank but if you watch the Disney version(not animated FYI) and I like it much more. There is more than one version.

Well a diary is where you're supposed keep all your disturbing little secrets. Its not like Anne Frank knew the whole world would be reading her diary. Especially long after her death.

I was required to read this on FOUR separate occasions for school. Middle school, twice in high school, and finally in college (where I was finally allowed to say at least one disparaging thing about it).

I wonder what it looked like before her father edited it.

I did read it in school. But the most moving thing that ever happened to me vis-a-vis Anne Frank was seeing her personal papers including handwritten parts of her diary at the Holocaust Museum in D.C. Then I reread the diary and bought a copy for my daughter. Very moving to see her real diary!

I had to read this book in 8th grade in 1993/94. I was fascinated with the book and read it very quickly. I love her story.

I read this book in college = tolerated it.
I read this book on the plane to Amsterdam where I was going to tour the house = LOVED IT.

Such a powerful and heart-wrenching tale. What a great story-teller. I'm glad I came back to this book as I grew up.

having been to the holocaust museum in DC many times (and forsee another visit when my parents are here in the next 2 weeks), the holocaust was then and still is an area of history that I am so intrigued about
