Didn't you HATE the ending???

Katie And how it said "Gale is probably in District 2 kissing other girls' lips." Yeah, I decided those lips are mine. I. LOVE. GALE.

Katie Prim's death wasn't even necessary

Katie She talked to her children like they were dogs...like really. "Someday, I will tell boy and girl." ...c'mon..

Katie MMMM. GALE IS ON MY MAN LIST. FO SHO

Katie And then Peeta didn't even "recover" from that tracker jacker crap....what a terrible life he will have to endure

Katie I can't believe Suzanne Collins killed off Finnick. He finally got to marry Annie, and have a good life, but NOOOO, FINNICK CAN'T BE HAPPY.

Katie I think i'm done here. This is just bringing out too much rage that I've been keeping bottled up

Cyndi I loved the ending. I've read too many books that left too many unanswered questions at the end (Strange Angels series). This one left enough closure for me to be happy, although it would have been nice to see how Gale and Haymich turned out. Still, I was genuinely happy with what I read.

Lauryn April The more I read comments here the more I feel that people have seriously misinterpreted what this book is about. It's NOT a love story. Yes, I would have liked more details at the ending. I would have loved a more detailed scene with Peeta and Katniss helping each other move past what they've been through. But, even without that I think it ended the way it needed to.

Yeah it sucks that Finnick and Prim died, but their deaths were not in vain. I felt that both those characters were willing to give their lives for the greater good.

As for Gale, he was more dedicated to this war then anyone. He was more dedicated to it then he was to Katniss. They cared about one another but they grew apart. That's what war does to people, that's the point. Personally I think, after what Katniss went through Peeta is the only one she could be with. He knows her in a way no one else can because he went through that with her.

Christina I didn't hate it at all. I think a lot of people have missed the point of this series. It's NOT about the love triangle. It's about the downfall of a controlling government and the moral dilemma of the war for the sake of peace. Gale and Peeta are just symbols of war and peace. In the end she chooses peace even though the war tainted it. If you failed to get that, re-read the series please!

I got caught up from the romance aspect. It distracted me from the horrible aspect that these kids have to go into an arena and kill each other off for sport at the hands of the sick demented people of the capitol.

Tania I didn't hate it, but I didn't love it either. Like some people have already said, I felt like she rushed a lot of things... a lot of deaths going on at one point and not enough time to grasp them { Finnick was completely unnecessary to kill! With Prim I honestly didn't really care much, I have to say it was kinda fitting... }

I think it ended how it was supposed to. Katniss and Peeta had been through a lot, so they deserved some peace.

Amanda (Gale's Chosen One) Potter I get that it's not about the love story, I really do.
I understand what the book is about 100% and the purpose if it.
But whether we like it or not the love triangle turned into a big part of the book. I honestly didn't think it was needed but it was still there.
So I think its okay for people not be fully satisfied with that part. Aslong as they understand that the book has other important things in it. And I do.

YES OMG TRUE. why can't people see it?

Angela.02 I HATE IT!!!!!!!!!

Krystal Wade I loved the ending. Perfection, and quite realistic. The kids didn't need names. :-)

Emma Mecham thank u everyone for the comments and the new comments to come:) I really appreciate the agrees, disagrees, and the in betweens:) I feel I like the book ending more than ever:) but I will still be unsatisfied by the no-name children;) thank you for your feedback:)

Chris J. I loved the first and second books, but the third book ruined the trilogy for me... It sounded as if she ran out of ideas and had to come up with something. If she would have stopped on the second book it would have been a success... Can't wait for the movies though.

Hannah I'm just glad she ended up with Peeta :-) But I do admit the ending was kind of rushed....

Emily Sempf I read this book about 6 or 7 months ago and i still get mad when i think about the ending. i thought it seemed completely rushed. like Bam now that the excitment is over we need an actual ending.

message 71: by Hope (new) - rated it 4 stars

Hope Adon Maybe it's because I read books because they inspire, comfort, take me away from the trials of life, or contain valuable lessons, but I absolutely hated the ending. I think it was the unfeeling, kind of defeated tone of the overview of her life at the end, which I could have done without. It was depressing. I loved the series, but the ending overshadows all of the good feelings along the way.

message 72: by Kyndal (last edited Mar 18, 2012 01:04PM) (new) - rated it 2 stars

Kyndal Ending was horrible and rushed. Katniss should have ended up alone or died. Or maybe someone else should have written the last book for Collins since it doesn't seem like she can wrap up a story like this very well.

message 73: by Deidre (last edited Mar 15, 2012 02:35PM) (new) - rated it 4 stars

Deidre That's reality. In real life, people don't live happily ever after. They just continue on with their lives as best they can, and deal with things as they happen. Katniss picked Peta, because she needed him to survive. She gave him children, not because she wanted them, but because she felt like she owed him. That actually happens in real life all the time. It's not romantic, it's not exciting, but it's real. The author just showed that the reality of the aftermath of tragedy is not like a Disney movie. People just pick up their lives, and keep on living them, just surviving. If that's a terrible ending, perhaps you're just not looking at it from a realistic perspective.

And did the kids really NEED names in the book? How would names have changed anything at all? The kids are still hers, and she still has to treat them the same way, no matter what she named them. The names really didn't matter at all.

Allie I didn't like how she killed everyone off, sent Gale away and then had Katniss and Peeta to live "happily ever after." I would have loved to know how Finnick and Annie's life went. Why did she kill everyone off?

Terry Like most of the comments... I agree I felt we were held with the suspence of moving dangerously towards Snows mansion but it gets glossed over by an explosion and she's back in hospital and we get the catch up. Then rushing to the end with a delightful turn of events Katniss kills Coin, and Snow dies too. But yeah rushed and then given a light end. To be honest I couldn't have cared who Katniss ended up with. As it was she never really had to make a choice, she just went with where the cards layed.

Katie King I didn't mind the lack of names, but the ending still didn't satisfy. Katniss really should of ended up with Gale, not Peeta. Gale was so much better. Mote than anything, Gale was strong where Peeta was weak. Not in the physical sense, but mentally and emotionally. Throughout the books he was just a lovesick idiot. Katniss deserved somebody with more ability than just baking, painting, and fawning over her.

Ferdouse Akhter The first book was the best, it had everything, but the 2nd and 3rd just didnt live upto my expectations. They had lost the sparkle (I cant think of any other word) that was in the 1st book. The ending was a bit rushed, anti-climatic and boring.

No I think that is a good word for it - "lost it's sparkle" The second book repeated on itself to some extent and the last book lost it's body by glossing over key events. Totally agree with you

Kåiłeē Honestly guys, stop complaining. What do you think could have been a better ending?? One with as much excitement, enough sadness, and suspense?
Honestly, i dare you to try.
Just try. and you wont be able to.

Brianna I didn't like the ending at all! It ended too quickly. Unfortunately, i always pick the loosing side (cause i have a soft spot for archers) so when she ended up with Peeta (which i KNEW was going to happen, but was hoping otherwise) it made it extra dumb.

Ellie Marc I hated it.I hated Peeta since his introduction, loved Gale since his.
And Gale didn't kill Prim, but I hated how Prim died. I literally the chapter before texted my friend who finished the book saying "I swear to god if Prim dies, I'll murder something. We went to the games for dis bitch, no."
But anyways, saying Gale killed Prim because of his invention is like saying if my aunt was hit by a vehicle I should hate Subaru's CEO.

In my perfect ending, either Peeta died at the Games or Capitol during his capture and Katniss mourned but used that as fuel for revenge. Gale and her married, never had kids [because the fact she didn't want children was DRILLED into our heads the whole book series and it pissed me off she had to bend her will for Peeta], maybe got a dog and Gale becomes like the new President of Panem while Katniss just gets to relax and help Prim plan her wedding and live happily ever after.

On a side note, I'm sick of everyone also bitching about how Gale left for D2 and nobody ever brings up how shitty of a mother Katniss's mom was.

Sarah:) To me the ending just seemed bad. You didn't know what happened to anyone. It was not my favorite.

Kyra Sarah:) wrote: "To me the ending just seemed bad. You didn't know what happened to anyone. It was not my favorite."

Yes, I was sad about not getting to know what happened to everyone else also, but it really couldn't have been great after all that they went through.

Kyra Meagan wrote: "I hated the open ending but I get it, because with something like this, there is rarely an end so simple. It leaves you to imagine what could be next, as if this was even happening to you."

Exactly!

Love Music 4ever Mrs.Effie Fuentes I loved but hated the ending. I cried bascilly the whole ending because of Prim dieing and when Katniss started writing the book and talking about all the people that died and when buttercup started meowing for Prim feel like a wimp.

Regan When I started on the first book, I felt so bad for Gale. I pictured Peeta as an Alex Pettyfer kind of guy (No offense but the movies Pettyfer have played in have really made an impact on his image). But then again, Josh Hutcherson changed the image of Peeta in the movie to a gentle, shy kind of person. The thing that REALLY got me mad was how president Snow changes Peeta. just, just...ugh. Whatever. The ends of all book series let me down anyways.

message 87: by Kyle (new) - rated it 5 stars

Kyle I thought the ending was uneventful and boring. But it was the best way to end it. I think it is far more appropriate to show Katniss broken down and struggling. How many people really could live a happy life after going through everything that Katniss did? Also, it stayed with the overall tone of the novels. And it broke the norm, that is awesome. I hate reading books knowing that this character is going to survive and marry this person and live well. I think it is great to have a young adult book like this that shows the most accurate way those events would have on a life.
As for Prim, I was deeply saddened by her passing, but I thought the twist was completely unanticipated. It was perfectly timed. And even though I walked around depressed for like three days and reread the section a few times hoping that I had missed a clue that hinted at it not actually being Prim, I now like the ending and even that particular event. It is sad, but it was unpredictable and the icing on the cake for keeping the mood of the previous novels. It helped connect the ending to the rest of the book in terms of tone.
But when I read the series, I hated the way it ended. After lots of time and thought, I now like it and think it was perfect, no better way to end the series.

message 88: by Clra (new) - rated it 3 stars

Clra G I agree with Audrey, I loved the fact that she chose Peeta in the end, but it was SO anticlimatic! I did not like the ending at all! I loved the series, I hated the ending!

Michele Grimmett "The more I read comments here the more I feel that people have seriously misinterpreted what this book is about. It's NOT a love story. I agree! Gale went to war because all through the books he felt the injustice of their lives far more than Katniss did. Katniss was just trying to get through life. All Katniss wanted to do was protect her little sister. If Prim hadn't been chosen for the Games, it's doubtful that the civil war would have erupted and the lives in all districts would have gone on as usual. The books are not about a love story, but just like real life, love can come even in the middle of a war. I was grateful that Katniss made it to the end and that she and Peeta were able to settle down, nurse each other's wounds, and have a life together. Peeta didn't force her to have children. She chose to have them and it took her a good long time to heal enough that she could. She had the kids and it's a powerful recognition that her world had changed enough that she felt it was safe to do so.

Ellie says upthread that nobody talks about how bad a mother Katniss' mom was. I think it's too simplistic to say she was a bad mother; before her husband died there is no mention that she wasn't a good mom. It's pointed out in the books that she must have loved her husband very much to give up the advantages she had in order to marry a miner. It sounds as if her husband's death just crushed her and there was no medical care or help to bring her out of her depression, and her inability to function and care for her children would have made it worse for her.

Olivia Land I think they kids names are...... Rue, Prim, Finnick or someone or somthing like that.

Sajeda i hated it,
1) her mum left her
2)prim dies
3)gales leaves her
5)peeta does not love katniss that much as he is still insane

*sorry spoiler alert*

Ascel Kadhem I thought it was OK. Not amazing.

Yeah it was awful and rushed. I liked gale a little better cause i thought peeta was kinda a bitch. And i thought katniss lost all her 'fire'

Heidi davis it seemed like she tried to finish the book in a hurry

message 96: by [deleted user] (new)

YA!!!!! I thought katniss would be a prez or something....

Alicia Kyra wrote: "I didn't HATE the ending. But yes, I sure would've loved to know what happened next to everyone we came to love."

I agree and also, this is just me, but, I don't like it when books have realistic endings as much as books that happy endings. I mean, I don't MIND them and I totally get why someone would like a realistic ending over a happy ending, but I prefer happy endings, again, that it is just me, and I realize lots of people prefer realistic endings; everyone's different, eh?

Naomi of the Rargle Corporation I found it pathetic.
They all (well, Katniss and Peeta anyway) lived happily ever after with their kiddies? *throws up*
Gale turned into a prick, Peeta was hopeless, and Prim died. Yay. -.-

Micaela griffin Emilia Jane wrote: "I HATED the ending! I felt she just tried to finish quickly! I mean come on! Can't you give the kids' names at least?!?!"

YES! That is exactly what I was thinking

Micaela griffin I had mixed feelings about the ending it felt very rushed and I didn't like that. I would have loved to have seen what happened to every one else. Also I was happy that here and peeta ended up together and the whole "Real or not real?" is FANTASTIC!
