Emma Mecham I HATED the ending! I felt she just tried to finish quickly! I mean come on! Can't you give the kids' names at least?!?!

Nya Tomlinson-Horan-Malik-Payne-Styles she did that on purpose. to leave it open ended. i LOVED it!

Allie ok The ending was okay but it wasn't my favorite. Specials was the worst ending ever. But on a scale of 1-10 for this book i think it would be a 4 or 5

Emma Mecham DID NOT like how she didn't give the kids' names:( She always thought of good names. so I was sad when she didn't include their names:(

Tjala i still gave the book five stars but i really didnt like the ending, mainly because she eneded up with peeta!

Emma Mecham Tjala wrote: "i still gave the book five stars but i really didnt like the ending, mainly because she eneded up with peeta!"
OH NO! I LOVED how she ended up with Peeta. Are you a Gale lover? Is that why?

Tjala YES!! i dont dislike Peeta but Gale is so much better in my opinion!! i don't understand why some people hate him so much!!!

Emma Mecham he left her in the last book. And *spoiler sorry* and in a round about way KILLED PRIM! *tear* :(

Alviroe Spirit Yeah i hated the ending :( I realllyy hated it, I thought she was gunna die and for some reason i thought it would have been better if she did...

Audrey I was pretty much ok with either Gale or Peeta, but it was SO anti-climactic!! Instead of an exciting reunion, Katniss sees Peeta planting trees and just goes inside to take a shower. I mean, really?! They couldn't at least kiss or something? WTF.

Sonora I had to reread the ending at least twice before I could understand what the heck happened.

Me too! i had to do the same thing when Prim died!

That was soo sad!

I know right!! I just gave up on it after the third time rereading it.

I could sort of understand it after the second time, but not really. So, I just finished the blasted book and left it alone.

hanpanparker LOL. They should have just quit after the second book. I mean really, did they have to go back to the Hunger Games AGAIN?

[Coco] Emilia Jane wrote: "he left her in the last book. And *spoiler sorry* and in a round about way KILLED PRIM! *tear* :("

I don't think he was the one to drop the bombs. It was Coin. He didn't kill prim.

Hannah I thought the ending seemed a bit rushed and I thought that (Spoiler alert) Prim's death was a bit of a non-event. The first book is by far the best

Lostshadows Coco wrote: "I don't think he was the one to drop the bombs. It was Coin. He didn't kill prim"

He didn't drop them, but they were his idea. So, in a round about way, it was his fault.

I'm not blaming him, but it's something that would always hang over a relationship between him and Katniss. And ultimately, it would probably destroy any real chance of happiness for them.

Thank you! exactly what I was trying to say, just couldn't put it in the right words:)

Riah I love the ending - except I don't like what she did with Gale, it just seemed like the easy way out with dealing with the relationship. I wanted Katniss to be with Peeta, but I didn't like how she handled the Gale issue.

Megan I didn't care for this book in general. I loved the series, and I understand why she wrapped it up the way she did, but, I don't know, I just didn't care for it. It wasn't b/c of Peeta either, I was for Peeta from the first book. Gale was too much like Katniss and too self-absorbed, especially by the third book.

Exactly!

Victor Aguilar the ending was ok. but i think that Katniss would no longer live a happy life, and it´s illogic for her mom to have gone to another district in such a hard time in their lives..

Alviroe Spirit Victor wrote: "the ending was ok. but i think that Katniss would no longer live a happy life, and it´s illogic for her mom to have gone to another district in such a hard time in their lives.."

Yeah, I thought she was going to die by the end,it would have made more sense. To me anyway..

Amanda (Gale's Chosen One) Potter I loved that is wasn't some cheesy happy ending.
But i felt like it was really rushed. That's what i didn't like.
I didn't like the ending of the love triangle. I wasn't really impressed. I might as well say yes i LOVE Gale so that's part of the reason why i didn't like it but i also didn't like she didn't even fight for Peeta in the end. Or choose him. It was more like oh Gale the other guy i love isn't here but oh look Peeta is here though i guess he'll have to do. Ugh.
That's just what how it seemed to me anyway. But who know's, maybe it was done that way to show the effects of war and how it effects relationships and things don't always work out the way you want it. Because i honestly felt like Katniss would have prefered to be with Gale, if it hadn't been for all the trauma she went through anyway.

NO IAM NOT. i think it was sad, depressing but still cool and really good for me

TRUE. that what makes the series ending is different than other series

Nancy Piper It did have a less than satisfying end to it. I didn't care who Katniss ended up with, but the fact that she went through so much, for her family, friends, and neighbors, and this is how she is treated? She doesn't even see her mother. The hero of the story is just left as a broken spirit, when she was instrumental to ending a totaltarian government. The ending could have some kind of reward besides just having babies with Peeta years after the war.

Rachel Emilia Jane wrote: "I HATED the ending! I felt she just tried to finish quickly! I mean come on! Can't you give the kids' names at least?!?!"

Me too! Go straight to movie with the third book!

Audrey Riah wrote: "I love the ending - except I don't like what she did with Gale, it just seemed like the easy way out with dealing with the relationship. I wanted Katniss to be with Peeta, but I didn't like how she..."

I agree with this. I'm ok with either Gale or Peeta, but the way she handled Gale throughout the third book was such a cop out. She was kind of like "let's turn him into an evil, heartless person so i can resolve this triangle." She also should have taken the time to write a proper goodbye with Gale and a proper reunion scene with Peeta.

Emily Nya wrote: "she did that on purpose. to leave it open ended. i LOVED it!"

I think it was kind of a horrible ending. But I loved the last line. "But there are much worse games to play." I loved the last line in the epilogue as well as the last line in the 27th chapter.

Jennifer Tanko I thought the ending was fantastic. "Real or not real?" Very sweet.

And I'm glad she didn't name the kids. Last thing we need is another Albus Severus....

Emily Jennifer wrote: "I thought the ending was fantastic. "Real or not real?" Very sweet.

I think that the end of the 27th chapter should have been the complete ending without the epilogue. The epilogue was dissappointing but the 27th Chapter was the best ending she could've gone with.

Alviroe Spirit Jennifer wrote: "I thought the ending was fantastic. "Real or not real?" Very sweet.

Haha, I agree with the names. But I think if she had named them they wouldn't really be like that. Probably some kind of plant though.. :L

LOL SOO TRUE

rachel ~ trans rights are human rights So many feelings about this book, it's unbelievable. First off, I hate Katniss. She's a horrible person - note I didn't say she's a horrible character; she's not, although there are a few times when she's a total Mary-Sue - and I just wish she hadn't ended up with anyone. She didn't deserve Peeta or Gale. She deserved to live in an asylum.

Anyway. I didn't really like the book in general; it was too rushed, and there was too much in one book. She fit the whole entire rebellion and war into one book, and then she managed to kill off the only redeeming qualities of her book? Really? The last book was just overall a bad book, and I really, really disliked it. I mean, it was just all too much for one book. Collins could have easily fleshed out the war and the rebellion to be at least two seperate books, but she didn't, and I think the series as a whole suffered because of that.

I kind of digressed, but I think the ending was... okay? Like I said, I really disliked Katniss, so I guess I'm kind of bias.

Stephanie I loved the ending and the fact that she ended up with Peeta. I didn't care for Gale much at all.

message 39: by Dee (new) - rated it 1 star

Dee Hated the book, hated the ending, hated how heartless she made Gale, hated how she didnt even name her kids, hated the fact that she was basically stuck with Peeta, hated how cold it ended, hated how she kept Haymitch a drunk loser, hated the death of prim... why for what reason??.... simply hated this third book...possibly the worst ending I have ever read!

Sharon I liked the book. Was it my favorite of the series? No. But I do believe it gave the reader closure and that's a good way to end things for me. That being said yes I would've liked to have names for the kids.

Christine I liked the ending. For me it fit with the characters. Katniss and Peeta were both so damaged by what they had been through and so afraid to reach out and accept that happiness could really be theirs; were probably just waiting for something to come along and snatch it away. From the time her father died when Katniss was 11 or 12, she had to set her own emotions aside to take care of her mother and sister. So it made sense to me that it would be hard for her to recognize her emotions, let alone act out on them in any demonstrative way.

I didn't love Gale, I didn't hate Gale. For me, Gale was the friend we love and care about but who has grown in a different direction. I remember in the second book Gale making some comment about defeating the Capitol or killing people, I don't remember exactly, but it was an extreme statement that Katniss didn't agree with and I knew at that moment she would end up with Peeta. I don't think Gale's attitude made him blood-thirsty, so much as a victim of his times and his life experiences. He wanted revenge, wanted someone to pay for what had been done to his family, friends, and district. But Katniss and Peeta, after surviving The Hunger Games, both felt that no one deserved to go through what they did. That there had to be a better way to treat people than an eye-for-an-eye.

Lauryn April I think what happens in the ending is absolutly perfect, however I feel like there are a lot of details that we are just told about and not shown to us. Prim dying, Katniss ending up with Peeta, her killing Coin. I felt all of what happend was how it should have happened. I just feel like after watching Katniss fall apart I wanted to see more of that time where she got a little better. I wanted a more indepth scene with Peeta. I feel like the ending was maybe glossed over a little.

Jamiesuzanne Yes I hated the ending. I don't see why Katniss had to "end up with" either Peeta or Gale. I think it's a terrible message to send to young adults to grow up to marry your teenage sweetheart and have kids (A LA Harry Potter, Twilight, and Hunger Games) as if this is the only option for adulthood. I hope the next hugely popular teen series has a more imaginative ending.

Kyra I didn't HATE the ending. But yes, I sure would've loved to know what happened next to everyone we came to love.

message 47: by [deleted user] (new)

I hated it. I know if I say anymore, you'll be reading a never-ending rant, so I won't say anything else except that I HATED IT SO MUCH. ;A;

Janice I know the ending wasn’t happy, but it was very in keeping with the themes of the series-war changes everyone it touches and life for many is never the same afterwards. For me the impact of the story wouldn’t have been as true if we’d had a fairytale happy ending. It’s because of the way the story ended that made it stick with me long after I closed the book.

Katie Oh lawdy, do I have some stuff to say about Mockingjay!

Katie I hated the ending SO. FREAKING MUCH. I was actually depressed when i finished...It's like she "settled" with Peeta...
