Alright, so I have read and will continue to read The Mortal Instruments series and The Infernal Devices trilogy but I don't get why everyone like The Infernal devices more. I personally love TMI. I think that all the characters in TMI are amazing. I love Isabelle for her smart ass remarks and I love Jace for just being freaking sexy. I like TIF but I don't think the trilogy is that great. It seemed kind of far fetched that a bunch of automatons were going to kill and take over everything. Plus I didn't enjoy the gruesome thought of the skin peeling away from metal. Tell me why you guys like it so much because to me TMI is the better series.

I am a bigger fan of fantasy, adventure, and historical fiction than I am of modern fiction (which I don't read that often). I love that ID is set in 19th century London with carriages, old clothing, old-fashioned language, and everything that comes with it! I've been getting into some of the "steampunk" stuff lately, too, so I think that also adds fuel to the fire for me ;)
I like TMI but, at the same time, I get tired up not-so-intelligent language, the description of places that I already know about (like diners, cafes, etc.), and technology. I pretty much absolutely HATE dystopian novels which just goes to show that I dislike anything including modern/futuristic conventions, lol.
Basically, it just comes down to a persons preference.

Yeah I get that. I do like the Victorian Era however, but this series just does not sit right with me. I am a fan of the past and the present but it seemed unrealistic to me to include automatons in ID.
I love both series and I can't say I like either more than the other, but I love ID because of the adventure and the mystery. One book left, and I still have no idea what Tessa even is. Even though there isn't quite as much comedy in ID as in TMI, there are still parts that make me laugh. Such as "'Goodness,' Tessa said to the back of Will's head, "if you keep on seeing Six-Fingered Nigel like this he'll expect you to declare your intentions.' Jem choked on his tea." I just love how old-fashioned it sounds!Oh, and I love Will, because he's sexy and Welsh. End of story. ;)
I absolutely love both Mortal Instruments and Infernal Devices. Both series are captivating and inventive and pull you into the story.I love that one is set in the past and one in the present also but I dont agree about the automatons.I think they are a nessessary part of Infernal Devices because the books focus on clockwork creatures wreaking havoc just as demons are the focus of Mortal Instruments. Both series are similar and yet so completely different that I'm waiting on Clockwork Princess and City of Lost Souls with equal anticipation.
The setting is what gets its advantage, even it's not very GOOD steampunk, not to mention how poorly it fits with the canon of the Shadowhunters in general. But I'm rereading the TMI right now and .... now I'm even more sure that TID is better for me. TMI, especially the first, so far isn't written as well in my opinion. Cassandra Clare and I will never have a good relationship based on her writing skills, but to me she's much more reined in in her latest books, tidier. TMI is just bubbling over with over-dramatized prose. Yes, it's good but it's too much. She also has the rather bad habit of writing all of her characters with the same voice; a problem that is somewhat lessened in the Victorian trilogy.
The relationships in the Infernal Devices feel considerably less superficial as they move into the second book. Finally even though almost every event in both trilogies functions as a thinnly disguised attempt to put love interests in the same room with each other, the minor events of TID feel slightly more important than the events that seem more like filler to me in TMI, the "then something happened" events or "here's something awkward".
Don't get me wrong though, maybe the first two aren't my favourites in TMI but I LOVED City of Glass and I liked the 4th one as well.
i do like TMI much better and to be honest it took me weeks to finish clockwork angel not to say i hated it but it really took all my strength to finish it i kept putting it down and reading other books honestly wont be reading anymore in the series.

Completely agree (:
I also have to add that the whole automatons deal makes it interesting because it is something nobody at the time would be used to, which is why everyone freaks out... There is nothing like it, it might be pretty far-fetched but that is the point, I think

I like it because it is old timey... but I have a harder time believing it, as opposed to TMI.
