I am reading Villette at the moment and it is not anything like Jane Eyre at all. You can tell it is written by Charlotte but Lucy Snowe and Jane Eyre are two very different creatures.

They are for sure. Lucy doesn't seem to trust the reader very much...she doesn't even tell us about her family or what happened to them. Very different.

I know. She keeps so much back. I read a review were the review said Lucy hates you and doesn't trust you. I thought the hate part was a little strong but the trust part you and her hit the nail on the head.

message 2257: by Beth (last edited Feb 14, 2015 06:42PM) (new)

Beth (bbulow) Nicole, I was curious about the review you mentioned, and it wasn't hard to find since it was pretty much the first on the list - definitely makes some really good points and says a lot of what I was thinking already. I agree, though, hate is a little bit strong. More like she doesn't trust the reader or think that the reader will care...just so different from my beloved Jane Eyre ;)

message 2258: by Shantelle (new)

Shantelle I'm attempting to read both The Unveiling (Age of Faith, #1) by Tamara Leigh by Tamera Leigh and The Brickmaker's Bride (Refined by Love, #1) by Judith McCoy Miller by Judith Miller. However, I'm having a hard time really getting into them for some reason...

I guess I need some fantasy! :D Or An Uncertain Choice by Jody Hedlund by Jody Hedlund looks great also!! :)

An Uncertain Choice is a cute, quick read, a bit predictable but I enjoyed it.

Aw, too bad. Maybe you'll like the other books of the series better. :-)

Isn't it just not fun to be reading a book that you don't really enjoy?? I'm one who always likes to finish a book once I start, but some of them are just really hard to get through!! Everyone has different tastes I guess! :-)

message 2265: by Aerykah (new)

Aerykah | 2071 comments I'm hoping I will. :)

Oh, I agree! I much prefer to finish a book once I start it, though I have given up on some that I really could not stand to keep reading. Thankfully, this one isn't that bad. ;)

I am almost done with Villette and I have to say it is my least favorite Bronte book I have read. I think it is the closed off character of Lucy.

Bonnie, I've heard that one's amazing! Are you enjoying it?"

Sorry, Nicole, I'm just now seeing this! Yes, I really liked the book! It was my third WW2 fiction book to read and I have surprisingly loved them all. I never would have thought that and at first worried they would be too hard to enjoy reading with all that happened during that time. Saving Amelie was the most suspenseful and keeps you constantly wandering what is going to happen next. I do recommend it for anyone who enjoys WW2 fiction!

I had planned to move right on to book 3, but I decided to read a different book first so that I'm not reading two first-person-pov books in a row.
So I started The Texas Brides Collection 9 Romances from the Old West by Darlene Franklin and we'll see how it goes.
