Carol (goodreadscomcarolann) | 214 comments Has anyone seen the film?
I saw it yesterday (limited release here)--- very surprising!

Joe Wright who directs this fim (also directed Pride and Prejudice, 2005 and Atonement, 2007) which I enjoyed -- his film shots, locations, perspectives. But this film (Anna Karenina, 2012) reminded me of Moulin Rouge, 2001 directed by Baz Luhrmann. It was not like his previous films. His transitioning scenes and music made me think it was more Luhrmann than Wright.

Well, it's a huge book so there's lots for people to like and dislike and I'm finding reasons for both. But there's a host of characters and it's definitely interesting to see them grow and change. That's probably my favorite bit.

Haha, same here! Always complain about literary adaptations. I have yet to see the film, hasn't been released here yet, but I'm definitely looking forward to it anyway. I've heard a lot of mixed opinions on it. There are other films, too, of course. I'll be trying to get my greedy little hands on those, too.

Yup, pretty much the same as any book. Not everyone's going to like everything. I say, read it if it interests you =]

It drives my family crazy when they watch a book made into a movie with me.Whenever I mutter under my breath that's wrong my brother says yes we know it didn't happen like that in the book.I have even complained if the animals(cats, horses, dogs are the wrong color if they are said to be a different color in the book). My brother asked so you liked The Hunger Games movie? The first thing out of my mouth of that the cat was the wrong color. My brother was of course it was. Then I told him my complaints form the start to the end.I still complain that Bingley was on the wrong color horse in the movies. It says he rode a black horse in the book but they have ride a white one in the movies.

It seemed so different from her other books that I felt like I wasn't even reading a Dee Henderson book. I totally disliked the style! The parts that I thought were probably supposed to be unexpected never surprised me even a little. There were other things too, but I won't list everything...
I don't write book reviews very often, but I think I'm going to have to write one for this book. :/

The Life of Our Lord: Written for His Children During the Years 1846 to 1849

Currently reading this little book that Dickens wrote only for his children so that "would learn about the life and teachings of Jesus Christ." Dickens never wanted this book to be published.

Karol I have just recently started reading a book that I picked up several years ago: The Wisdom of St. Patrick by Greg Tobin by Greg Tobin. It has some interesting introductory historical information about the life of the Saint, followed by devotional readings based on his teachings. The two documents of his that have survived to this day are also presented at the end. Fascinating stuff!

Aoibhínn (aoibhinn) I've finished reading The Lifeboat by Charlotte Rogan by Charlotte Rogan yesterday. The Lifeboat is the debut novel of author Charlotte Rogan. It is a compelling, gripping and extremely thought-provoking tale. This novel tells the story of survival at its most basic level. It explores human nature and morality. It shows what happens to people while they are fighting to stay alive. The novel is a psychological thriller really. The book is very well-written. I really loved the author's writing style. I was completely engrossed in this novel from the very first page. The way in which Charlotte Rogan describes the moral decisions the characters have to make is quiet chilling.

Aoibhínn (aoibhinn) I've finished reading I've Got Your Number by Sophie Kinsella by Sophie Kinsella yesterday. The first half of the book was quite good but I got a bit bored with it during the second half. The book was well-written and it had a lot of extremely funny scenes in it. However, the plot was very predictable. I made a guess when I was at 5% of the way in about how this book would end and I figured it out exactly! The author is not very good at adding "twists and turns" into her plots, which is the main reason I haven't picked up a book by this author for ten years. I thought the author would have learned something in all that time but apparently not!

Aerykah | 2071 comments I recently finished Miss Match (Lauren Holbrook, #1) by Erynn Mangum & Cool Beans (Maya Davis, #1) by Erynn Mangum by Erynn Mangum. I really enjoyed both of them! :)

The only problem I had with them was the excessive amount of coffee mentioned in each book. :/ Y'all would probably like that, though... :P

One thing I really loved was that Jane Austen's books (mainly P&P) were mentioned several times. One time it even mentions the main girl staying up until like 3:00 AM so she could finish P&P 1995!! Absolutely LOVE that!! ;D

Shout out to Mr. Tom Barry author of When the Siren Calls for the free copy of the book. It's a great thing he did for his twitter followers and I'm highly appreciative, been trying to win this book on Goodreads First Read giveaway. So when I got it I was really giddy.

Reading Wolf Hall before I start w/the sequel Bringing Up the Bodies.

Bloodsucking Fiends, great book and great humorous take on the vampire love story storyline. Love the other two books in the series You Suck (A Love Story, #2) by Christopher Moore and Bite Me (A Love Story, #3) by Christopher Moore Twilight this is not! And thank goodness for it!

Thanks for the review on the book Ellie. Was thinking of reading it but wasn't so sure on whether I should. I've only read one book from her Twenties Girl by Sophie Kinsella and I liked that book (although the childish character trait seems to run in this book too) so I was thinking of reading another book from her.

Also saw you reading a Christopher Moore book...looking forward to a review. He's become one of my favorite authors and trying to read his book. Would appreciate any thoughts on his other books.

Aoibhínn (aoibhinn) I've finished The Stupidest Angel A Heartwarming Tale of Christmas Terror by Christopher Moore by Christopher Moore earlier today. The plot was quite thin but there were tons of funny scenes that made me giggle and snicker (it wasn't funny enough to make me laugh out loud). However I got bored with this book pretty quickly. The humour was just so repetitive that it started to get on my nerves after a while and the jokes just stopped being funny. I didn't like the second half of the book as it just got too far-fetched and stupid. I really struggled to finish it.
