Scott Marlowe (scottmarlowe) Hello,

Just wanted to drop a comment here that my fantasy/pseudoscience novel, The Five Elements, is free today and tomorrow on Amazon. Here's the link and the description. Thanks!

Scott

The Five Elements (The Alchemancer, #1) by Scott Marlowe

Amazon:

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASI...

Aaron—scholar, alchemist, and sorcerer's apprentice—wants nothing more than to study his tomes, perform his experiments, and spend time with his closest friend, Shanna. Substitute the occasional romp about the city for the books and plenty of games of crutchit for the smelly alchemicals, and Shanna is just fine with that, too.

Their routines—and their lives—are thrown into chaos when an elemental attack is launched against their home. Aaron thinks Shanna killed, while Aaron himself is forced to flee for his life. For Shanna, who survives that fateful night, the greatest adventure of her life is about to begin. Only the worst of nightmares awaits Aaron: pursued by dwarves, hell hounds, and a demon who will not stop until he is dead, the only thing keeping him alive is his own resourcefulness and an eslar mercenary whose reputation as a killer might make him the worst threat of all.

Though Aaron and Shanna travel different paths, their purpose is joined when they individually learn of the mysterious Fifth Element. Shanna sees it as the final piece in the puzzle that is her destiny. To Aaron's logical mind, it is an impossible ambiguity. Whatever the answer, the Fifth Element draws them back together and into a final confrontation not as allies, but as adversaries.

Wow, your book The Truce sounds awesome! Great hook for me. You need to get it on goodreads. Have you read the inferno books by Larry Niven?

From your reviews, It seems you like books that take more time with locations and description than I do. That makes me doubly interested to see what you think of my work. As a reader I often find that I will skip through long descriptive passages to get to the meat of the story. That shows in my writing, though I try to moderate it.
I'd love to get your review of my books. I'll send you the coupon codes.

Thanks!

Dana Rongione (danarongione) | 23 comments What do the following have in common: a muntjac deer, a toilet, and a hairless cat? They are three key factors in uncovering a treasure that may or may not exist. But for Abby and Jamie Patterson, these items are essential ingredients to fulfilling their grandfather's greatest desire. Is the fortune real, or are the siblings following a path to nowhere as set down by an eccentric old woman? The quest is on, and time is running out.

The Delaware Detectives is a fun mystery for middle-graders. The Kindle version will be available for FREE on Friday, 4/6/12. Any reviews are definitely welcomed!

Hi, everyone!

In honor of the holidays this weekend, I've made two of my kindle books free on Amazon. I enjoyed writing these, and their sequels, and I hope you enjoy reading them. My treat. And a happy holiday weekend to everyone!

(Note: I quoted two reviews of these books to allow a look at a disinterested perspective.)

Diana Wilder

The City of Refuge by Diana Wilder
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004...

THE CITY OF REFUGE is a story of hidden treasure, revenge and murder and one man's discovery that the paths of righteousness may lie through peril, but they will always bring you home.

5.0 out of 5 stars a timeless tale - try it, February 29, 2012

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The City of Refuge (Kindle Edition)
I thoroughly enjoyed this book (on my daughter's Kindle) and will be reading the other novels in the same "Egyptian" theme, soon.

The characters are well developed and completely believable. Don't be put off by their strange names they are human just like you and I. If you've hesitated to try a historical fiction story this is a great one to get you started. Diana Wilder manages to show that people are people, and motivations are the same for us today as they were in ancient times. Khonsu is a loving father of a sickly daughter, a single divorced parent if you will. Diligent and honest, and guilty at being forced to leave his daughter in the care of his sister while the travels on "business". An ageless thread any of us can identify with, yet only one of many in this mystery laden tale.

Though there were a few strange formatting issues on my daughter's Kindle Fire - they didn't detract from story. This tale warrants 5 stars, and those are 5 real stars.

A Killing Among the Dead by Diana Wilder
A KILLING AMONG THE DEAD is a historical mystery set during ancient Egypt's declining years. It is a tale of betrayal, revenge and redemption, and one man's discovery that no matter how alone we seem in our struggle against evil, the Great Ones are never far away.

5.0 out of 5 stars A delightful surprise courtesy of Amazon's "Meet the Author" forum, March 23, 2012
By
Robert C. Ross (New Jersey) -
This review is from: A Killing Among The Dead (Kindle Edition)
I've really enjoyed reading and at times contributing to Amazon's forums, including the Meet the Author forum, even though I'm not an author myself. Several authors have, however, thanked me for suggestions that might help them market their own books.

I was struck by Diana Wilder's courtesy in a number of posts on that forum recently, and decided to take a look at one of her books. I was very happy to find A Killing Among the Dead, and am looking forward to exploring more of her work.

Orlando's review is very carefully written to give an good indication of the basic plot and the very attractive hero of the piece, and I don't want to spoil the fun for other readers. Perhaps my endorsement of Orlando's review will entice others to enjoy this very interesting story.

Orlando mentions that grave robbing was a serious problem for the pharaohs and other prominent Egyptians. Indeed it was -- and not only during the modern era, but really from almost the beginning. The first recorded robberies were documented in the reign of Ramses IX (1124 BCE - 1106 BCE).

It was always puzzling to me why the practice was so prevalent in ancient days, given the strong religious inclinations and the importance of the afterlife in the Egyptian culture. It appears that there were some poor folks trying to strike it rich, but even more prevalent were robberies by the wealthy: Pharaohs used grave goods, and even the graves, of previous Paraohs for their own tombs. Other robbers included men who worked on the tombs, embalmers, even the guards entrusted with security.

In any event, Ms. Wilder has obviously carefully researched this area, and has written a very interesting story with a strong and attractive main character.

Scott Marlowe (scottmarlowe) The Hall of the Wood by Scott Marlowe

The Hall of the Wood is free today on Amazon.

The novel is straightforward, classic fantasy: goblins, witches, rangers, sorcerers, knights, and murky woods. It's a bit of a mystery story with elements of suspense and plenty of action and adventure. There's some magic, too. Readers have complemented me on the development of the characters, which is more than they expect given the nature of the story.

The Safeguard by Diana Wilder
http://www.amazon.com/The-Safeguard-e...

Miss Lavinia Wheeler had watched as her world had been torn apart over the past three years When the Civil War comes to her doorstep, her generosity in opening her house as a hospital brings a change in her life far beyond any blessing she could have dreamed of or asked for. It also brings trouble.

Between dealing with the Yankee-hating townsfolk, her former slaves, a passel of wounded Yankees, a government that takes a dim view of people who aid the enemy, and a group of raiders that is ravaging the countryside, Lavinia isn't sure that she has time to care for herself, much less fall in love.

Cavalry sergeant Asa Sheppard was given the assignment to guard Miss Wheeler's treasures as a way to let him rest from the wound and exhaustion that had sapped his will to live Dealing with the peppery little woman and facing the dangers beside her not only cures his wounds; it brings him love again.

THE SAFEGUARD is a story of hardship, hope and joy in the midst of strife and suffering
